Myself, I enjoy the settings and development of the characters a lot, though, and I liked the Brienne chapters even though they didn't drive the story forward. They are sort of there to tell about the countryside/smallfolk now that Arya doesn't have that role anymore, and to put Brienne where she needs to be (I'm not convinced she is dead). I understand why somebody did not like them, especially if they don't care for Brienne.

Man... just reading some of these comments I know I will have to go through the books again... I have such a love/hate relationship with these books that I really don't want to start over, but I know I will be lost in 'dance' if I do not - so many plots and characters... dead, living, undead.... love him or hate him, one thing that Martin gets right (and I think ive said it before in this thread) is that every person has the capacity to be a hero and a monster... often right in back of one another.

It really does feel like a "Tales of Westeros" book. I just hope whatever Martin is setting up is worth it.

It sort of feels like "Assorted tales of Westeros", that are there just because the political situation has to be set up for whatever happens next. I quite liked A Feast for Crows but this makes sense here. I didn't dislike any chapters like I did in other books (didn't like Catelyn's chapters). One thing I've noticed about it is the lack of cliffhangers at the end of it. There's no real sense of urgency or loose ends that you really want to see tied up. Sure there a few but none of them on the scale of in the previous books. I can see why people didn't like Brienne, but not liking the Sansa chapters is weird. There were only a few of them anyway and you get to spend more time with Littlefinger who is quite a popular character. I don't know the policy on spoilers here so I'll be careful: + Show Spoiler + With cliffhangers, Arya's isn't that interesting (seeing as we've heard about another blind child earlier in the Temple), Sansa's is just a case of seeing what Littlefinger does next, Cersei and Jaime's has no real excitement or urgency to it and then there's the Dornish going after Dany. Also finding out how Davos dies (if at all) and where the islanders go next. That's it, right? Most of he intrigue for reading Dance is leftover from Book 3.

How about Jon, Sam, Jaqen (Alchemist), Theon or Jorah? I'm so stoked for this...

He may have enough notes that even if he dies the story will continue. Death didn't stop Robert Jordan and the Wheel of Time or so a lot of the stories that came after Tolkien's death.

Howard with John D. Clark and L. Sprague de Camp.

With so many people watching the series and now picking up the books (myself included) I'd hope it motivates him enough.

I mean, are you serious? 36 years from now? Does GRRM really want to release a book at the age of 98? lol you got trolled probably someone frustrated with how long it took for ADwD to come out.
