So it looks like there are many chess people here right now, so I thought I'd ask a question.

On the player's wikipedia pages there are results against other grandmasters. For example Player A vs Bobby Fischer: +3 −4 =3

How should I read that?

The more I watch of these games, and I have watched the last two a couple times now and gone over them in the app for FIDE 2013, the more I agree with Nakamura that Carlsen is having trouble with the spotlight and pressure.

Polgar also tweeted that she thinks Kasparov's appearance would affect Magnus which is an interesting consideration. For those who don't know Kasparov used to mentor Carlsen before Carlsen decided to end the partnership.

I read Nakamura's twitter and in my opinion he is being silly. Carlsen is handling the pressure well, it's a huge amount of pressure to deal with while trying to play great chess.

Only watched the last 2 hours of todays match but Carlsen seemed to be played well, managing to keep the game going and avoiding a draw much longer then expected.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

I wouldn't imagine it is the most unbiased bit of commentary, there is a bit of a rivalry there isn't there?

It's amazing how many variations had to be calculated in this game alone.
And there were not even queens on the board.

As much as I hate seeing Carlsen throw away an advantage, this was an excellent game, definitely worth the 6 hours I spent watching it. I suspect the time and pressure took a big toll on Anand today, and he's going to get worn down eventually.

I don't think there is such a relation that having queens means necessarily more variations.
I'm speculating, but to me it seems that with queens on the boards, there are more lines, of course, but there are less plausible variations, due to the high hostility provided by having both queens on the board.

What I mean is, moving my knight with an enemy queen on the board is tougher than if she wasn't there.

You can only have rivalry between equals. Jealousy might be more accurate.

Don't make Nakamura worse than he is. At the Sinquefield Cup this year he displayed some amazing play, and stayed head to head with Carlsen.

Were there misplays afte Bxa2? It's hard to see those !! or ?? annotations in the chess games anymore.

Haha, guys, Nakamura is like #4 in the world. If he was in Carlsen's seat today, we would have equally hot battle, if not hotter.

Anyway, that stuff with 18...Bxa2 simply blows my mind. If this was a part of Anand's home preparation, he did tremendous job at figuring out the positional benefits he can get from that and ways to actually maintain his pressure without letting Black pieces out and use their extra material. Magnus reacted as many would react: if the pawn ain't poisoned, why not just take it? However, snatching it was by no means forced and it really shows how much suffering the Norwegian is willing to go through to get the slightest of long-term advantages. I guess this trend will continue, since Carlsen so far managed to avoid blunders everytime he was forced into prolonged defense. The question is whether Vishy can finally translate the activity into a win?

I don't think Carlsen misplayed after Bxa2, but i do not get Kc3 by Anand later in the game. It disturbs the connection of his rooks, and allows Carlsens rook to come in on f3. What was so terrible about e3?

Carlsen still won the tournament though.

Sure, but he suffered quite a bit in the games against Hikaru. To say that he's jealous of Carlsen is quite the exaggeration when it comes to comparing their playing strength.
