Whoever you come across is very unlikely to be trustworthy, and you have almost no idea what kind of stuff is mixed into what you are buying. If you must trade illegal drugs, then an exchange with a reliable feedback system and secure communications is by far preferable. SR was not perfect (not by a long shot), but it was by far better than driving into a "bad" part of town and looking for people on the street corners. Also while people did buy very hard drugs on SR, I don't know if people who scored the occasional ritalin or adderall for studying, or a small amount of weed for relaxing with some friends are really that despicable. You engage in an illegal activity, you accept the risks. Dont bitch about them. The fuck. I am not bitching. I'm not in trouble, and didn't take any risks. I'm just saying that I do not believe it is good that SR was shut down, and I don't agree that it is "nothing but a cesspool of criminal activity." It was criminal activity, but handled in a far more civilized manner than drug dealing has been in the past. Handling the situation with finesse probably went out the window when they heard the guy was ordering hits on people... The "hit" seems more like it was a con, but I'm not going to defend DPR. SR was quite a mess as a website or an exchange, and he seems to have been pretty bad at running such a service. I still maintain that it was a move up from how people bought drugs 10 years ago, and even if the owner seemed quite incompetent that doesn't mean that the business conducted there wasn't more civilized (there was still plenty of shady shit going on, including scams, but less than you would expect from face-to-face drug dealing). I don't care about the fact that the drug user is less likely to be scammed (I would rather they be scammed more often anyway so they would be motivated to cease their illegal activity). What really matters is that they are putting money into very bad people's hands, I don't care if they are dealing with the gangs and cartels on the street or dealing with them through the anonymity of the internet. Whether they are funding crime face to face or through their computer screen, they are funding criminal behavior either way. Is it just me or would we be better off if people who thought so simplistically ceased to exist. i find this post amusing given the simplistic nature in which you have addressed this issue.
I fear a more subtle rebuke would be lost on such a thoughtful and perceptive mind.

It may surprise you, but I support the legalization of Marijuana, I do not however support people putting money into the hands of dangerous criminals and illegal organizations, so until marijuana is legal and regulated I would like it to be made as hard as possible for people to be putting money into the hands of criminals.

Outside of the [possible] murder, this is stupid. We should be legalizing [not monopolizing or handing out liscensure] things like this. Safe, easy, cheap way to buy drugs? This is improving peoples lives and acting in concert with their desires. also, there's quite a few enlightening substances other than weed. meh. i feel bad arguing about this, cause i dont wanna make anyone use anything. but if anyone wanted to they should have a reliable service like SR.
if you knew how the scene was working right now, you'd know what dealers try to sell as LSD or MDMA. there was a small study on "street MDMA pills" showing that 90 of 130 tested pills had meth in them. hooray for street corners.

The rcmp is currently throwing down money in an attempt to establish a market place, thats been in the news, whats not in the news is that the people who are getting these contracts from government are ....CRIMINALS dundundun...so when this stuff does become legal here there will be no real change in who is profiting now verses after the next election. Anyway its much more complex than passing a law.

Prohibition does not seem to considerably decrease demand, so I think silk road closing down did the complete opposite of what you're arguing.
To extrapolate on my argument, a lot of cannabis on silk road was legally grown in Netherlands or California, that is never the case with weed you would get "on the street".

Its not hypocritical at all, I would just ask people to wait for proper channels to be opened up for them to purchase their drugs from, regardless of what you want, it is always going to be wrong to giving money to dangerous criminal organizations. The problem comes from the substance being illegal, legalizing it would solve many problems but until then I want people to be punished for funding criminal gangs just for a cheap high.

Your friendly, independent neighborhood drug grower is not going to be able produce and transport on as a large a scale as a criminal organization which would lead me to believe their is still a large component coming from dangerous groups. The percentage of product coming from gangs and cartels probably increases as you start getting into the harder drugs as well.

yes, everyone realizes that legalization solves problems. but in the majority of countries it's not gonna happen in our lifetimes.

I actualy agree with him. yes pot should be legal. Yes you should be able to buy it from a reputable business. However the reality is that it is not legal. And illegal substances should be hard to get.
There is nothing hypocritical about this at all. What a person finds desirable and what is legal are two very different things.

Yes I expect them to wait. The other option is allowing people to get their drugs from whoever, which can and very often is unsavory sources. I am not willing to accept that it is or ever will be okay for people to be giving money to criminals and as such people must be punished for funding crime.
