The problems around 2100 are often crazy enough to slip up on them, I don't even know how people get through all sub-variations and quirks while dealing with stuff even harder than that.

It was a quirk in the system that the site owner eventually fixed - essentially in the past you got full credit for solving repeat problems, and you don't anymore. So then if your RD gets really high and you run across several really difficult problems you've done before - hey presto, you gain literally hundreds of points within a few problems ![]() My current blitz rating is probably about right, and my standard rating was about 2150 when I was taking it seriously. So sadly I cannot own up to being totes amazeballs.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some preparation focuses and all that. Preparing a light drawish game for white probably allows you to shift some attention to other remaining games.

Carlsen said in the PC, that he was outprepped here(a6 onwards), surprised and didn't want to continue in a position, in which he was scared Vishy may had prepared something, that actually gave Black the advantage here. And obviously such things can happen to Vishy as well as Anand. But fanboy response will differ greatly, depending on which case it is.

To be fair Carlsen leading the match makes a huge difference here. A win would change his chance of winning the match from 80% to 95%, while a loss would decrease it to around 50%.

When you're down in a match you should typically be trying harder to win than the person currently winning. That's how it goes. Especially since Carlsen beat Anand in Chennai I think that there's more needed from Vishy if he wants to reclaim the top spot. At least that's my opinion.

Also I think Anand couldn't really afford to draw without a fight today. Sure with white he's going to have a better chance to push for a win but I do think with only four games left including today he should have just taken more risks.

Modern top level chess is really, really drawish if white wants it to be. I think it's too big of a risk to go chasing a win on black here while you've still got 2 perfectly fine white games left and all you need is one win to make it even and stabilize. If Anand doesn't win the next game on white, we can probably start talking about the big risk plays. Today, a draw was fine for both even if it's a little dull outcome for the viewers. I'm not too experienced with top level chess though, any idea what kind of options black has for do-or-die games?

But why the hell would Vishy agree to a quick draw?
