I have a Galaxy Nexus that I can use for now, but it's extremely buggy and the battery doesn't last a whole day.
You should be able to find a Moto G for under $150.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like a good idea.

HTC is reportedly working on a new tablet based on the Nexus 9.
The Nexus 9 was, of course, built by HTC anyway, although it was designed and sold under Google’s Nexus mobile device program.
Prior to the Nexus 9, HTC’s tablet success had been minimal. Both the HTC Flyer and the HTC Jetstream largely flopped.
Even the Nexus 9 was widely criticised, although it landed as by far HTC’s most successful tablet.
It seems that the Nexus 9 has spurred HTC to get back in the tablet game however, with the Taiwanese company apparently building its own rival slate, as outed by leaker Upleaks.
What’s more, the tablet will reportedly also use a 9-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which puts it in direct competition with its Google-officiated device.
The specs will be different however, although it’s not yet clear whether the device will be high-end or low-end.

I hope high end, with an Apple-like Smart Cover. It's about time there's an Android tablet that can rival the iPad.

I doubt that's ever going to happen, unless Google ditches their "scale apps to fit tablet screen"-paradigm and force developers to actually write tablet-specific apps with an enforced design philosophy. Google has given OEMS and developers way too much freedom in that regard, resulting in an incredibly fragmented experience.
Say what you want about iOS or Windows 8.1, but at least tablet apps do not look like enlarged phone apps.

I know, and that annoys me. I've always been intrigued by the tablet form factor, but since Android is a mess, iOS is super restrictive and Windows 8.1 sticks to that (for me) unusable 16 form factor, there's not a tablet out there Ilthats right for me.

Just ordered a OnePlus One. Super stoked, big upgrade from my old (but still awesome) Nexus 4. Anyone have any experience with a neat case/skin for it? I'd love to keep as much as possible from the original feel/look. I'll be getting a glass screen protector for sure, but I need something to protect the back I suppose.

Let people do whatever the fuck they want and plow down the market by sheer numbers. We're already seeing them get a bit more controlling, so I'd imagine this will slowly continue.

I'm trying to access assess the resale value of my 16gb Nexus 5 (no scratches or damage) but craigslist prices are all over the place.
If you were looking to buy a used Nexus 5, how much would you pay for it at this point (USD)? Price range would be helpful.

Samsung is doing a series of teasers this year to hype up the launch of the next Galaxy S6 (or whatever it’s calling its 2016 flagship Android smartphone), and the latest details the tech and progress of wireless charging. In a post on Samsung’s official blog, the company’s lead engineer for IT and Mobile Seho Park described how advances in wireless charging over the past few years have made the tech much faster, more efficient and easier to integrate into devices from a components perspective. He closes with a suggestion that 2015 will be a watershed moment for wireless power, and a hint that “upcoming Galaxy smartphones” will fully partake in said moment.
The Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 support wireless charging, but only with the help of optional accessory backs designed for the purpose. This year, Samsung’s newest flagship could support wireless charging out of the box, complete with support for a range of standards, including things like Qi, PMA and WPC. The blog post by Park includes a section in which he describes advances in tech made last year that brought together support for multiple standards on a single chip, which he goes on to explain would make it to market around six months to a year after their introduction, i.e., around now or in the near future.

i have to say that coming from an s3 and using the n5 for a few months, i really miss the amount of thought that is put into samsungs android additions. i also miss the deeper functionality of something like s voice that gives much more granular hands free control. also the damn thing is indestructible.
i will probably be going back to samsung for my next phone purchase.

Got myself a Huawei Ascend Mate 2. 6 inch phone and the 3900mah battery lasts forever.

Perhaps topical considering the above post...
My N4 died. I'm basically looking for more of the same, as cheap as I can find it, and a Moto G seems like the obvious choice. However, one of the carriers here bundles an S4 for what amounts to a significantly better price, and the 4G is a plus.
I loved the almost instant updates to android and the lack of bloatware on the N4. From what I've heard Samsung loses badly to the Moto on both of those counts. Am I correct in assuming the Moto G software experience is the same as the N4?
I'd be interested in other opinions on the Samsung interface vs. vanilla Android. Is touchwiz as bad as it's made out to be?

Doesn't the Moto G 2014 have 4G?
|
From what I can tell the LTE version only has one band, and doesn't play well with the carriers over here. It's a moot point because I can't find anywhere that sells it anyway.
The N4 didn't have LTE either so I'm used to it, but it's the one feature I might actually use.

There are 2 versions of Moto G 2014, the one they started selling here in Portugal and the one i have doesn't have 4G but the upcoming version has 4G check the availability in your country

It's way less bad than it was a couple versions ago. It's definitely usable now and probably won't make or break your phone choice on its own, but after using Sense for about 8 months on my HTC One, I would definitely be a little annoyed going back to TouchWiz.
