Figured I would ask here - my Galaxy S3 has since monday begun to shut off without any real warning - at best it will freeze and then shut off, other times just straight off. I will the not be able to turn it on again until I have removed the battery and placed it back. The battery seems to be holding power just as well as always. I have tried cleaning the connections between the battery and the phone without any improvement. Any suggestions?

Got a Nexus 7 a bit more than 1 year ago and someday the screen cracked, diagonally 2/3 up with loss of touchscreen sensitivity above the crack, LCD is undamaged. Turns out there are quite a few review of people who had the exact same crack 2/3 of the way up the screen with same sensitivity loss above the crack. So it definitely look like a production defect, be cautious if you have a Nexus 7.

This is the 2013 Nexus 7, right? Not the original model?

My original model Nexus 7 is still running fine, though it had performance issues with Lollipop, so I had to revert it back to KitKat (and I'd consider that more an issue with Lollipop, not the device).

im not sure about the new one, but the old nexus 7 had a digitizer that was fused to the lcd

i barely cracked a portion of the glass on the bezels on one side of my old n7 and the entire thing was unresponsive
because i had to replace the entire display unit i just ended up canning it

It's way less bad than it was a couple versions ago. It's definitely usable now and probably won't make or break your phone choice on its own, but after using Sense for about 8 months on my HTC One, I would definitely be a little annoyed going back to TouchWiz.

Sense is the best of the custom Android UI packs, but honestly I dislike all of them since they break away from Google's design too much. HTC apps follow their own kind of theme/arrangement in a separate framework file, Google and most of the 3rd party apps on Store follow Google's framework. I want everything to be consistent.

I have an HTC One M8 and I've started to dislike Sense. It was fine at first, especially in comparison to what LG and Samsung do, but their apps are just not as good as third party ones. Text messaging, in particular, is a lot slower than Textra.

I've never screwed around with roms before, I might look into it if I find touchwiz too annoying. Can you flash an S4 to a more default Android with halfway reasonable results, or is it a high-maintenance kind of thing that I'd need to keep tinkering with?

Just to follow up: Apparently the motherboard had shorted out. So I'm now on the market for a new phone and looking for some recommendations. I have been overjoyed with the Galaxy S3, and I'm thinking about simply getting a new S3 (or perhaps upgrade since it might actually end up being cheaper).

My provider sadly only carries Samsung, iPhone, Huawei, Nokia, LG and Sony. I was considering getting an unlocked HTC/Nexus but I'm not sure it is worth the extra cost/hassle.

EDIT: I would actually really appreciate to hear thoughts on Huawei P6/P7/Y530 if anyone has used them and can compare them to Samsung models.

Carrier locking and contract are fucking plagues of American carriers. Get an unlocked phone and have the freedom to change carrier whenever you want.

Brand new Motorola Droid phones can be found on eBay. Verizon 4G LTE phones are GSM unlocked and free to use on GSM carriers.

rofl "my first language may not be engineering but I know this stuff will not bend" ^^....it is the first time I see a Samsung launch live, is it common they give this much crap to apple? (I love it by the way, it is at least the third pun/zing to apple since the beginning of the presentation).
