Also 16 Google Apps updates are rolling out.

just wanted to reiterate the difference in OS performance
LG G2 is on 4.2.2 whereas N5 is on 4.4.1
Following is the difference between 4.3 and 4.4, so the gap between 4.4.1 and 4.2 is even larger.

nevertheless, n5 is shaping up to be a killer phone. Receiving mine on Monday!

what is the better 7-8 inches tablet, 2nd gen nexus 7 or the new galaxy note 8? How do their performance compare to each other? To me who will be using the tablet mainly for taking notes, drawing stuff (not so often), watching videos and play some games, S Pen on note 8 is a huge plus, but touchwiz UI and non-stock android hold me back. It looks kinda bad and I also want fast android update ^^. That is my biased opinion though, since I only use stock android on galaxy nexus before. so I'm looking for opinion regarding touchwiz from people already using it
thx :D

TouchWiz sucks but 4.2.2 improved it and it's less annoying now. The one positive part of TouchWiz is multi-window support, which you can't get on the Nexus 7 unless you root it (and if you want to do that, you could root the Note 8 too.) This is useful for taking notes while looking at Powerpoint slides or reading PDFs.

If you want the pen support, you'll get over TouchWiz quickly since you don't really have a choice. The Note 8 is basically a note-taking tablet, and N7 is an entertainment tablet. My Note 8 plays Crazy Taxi and Netflix movies fine, but I dislike tablet gaming and watching movies on a 8" screen is a bad experience, regardless of whether it's on a high quality 1080p screen or an okay 1280x800 screen.

If it's your ONLY way to watch things or the need for a pen is marginal, then I'd probably go for the Nexus 7. If you have a reasonably sized laptop or TV, those will probably be better (even at lower resolutions.) When I'm watching movies on a plane, the mediocre screen factors in to about 2% of my enjoyment. The other 98% are tied into how crappy the flight/movie are.

S-Notes is a dumb app (besides the quick memo feature.) Get LectureNotes instead, for srs note taking.

I personally use Papyrus for note taking, haven't had problems with it and it's much better than S-Notes. I haven't tried LectureNotes before though.

I prefer stock over TouchWiz but with a little simple customisation (homescreens lockscreens etc) you can minimise the amount of TouchWiz you have to experience.

hmm actually what concerns me more is the lack of timely update (or too slow that is) to latest android version. Also, watching movies and playing games on tablet is kinda a secondary need when I'm travelling long distance or too lazy to turn on my comp. Taking note with a pen is definitely useful, and a tablet saves me the trouble of carry tonnes of notes around.
I occasionally do graphic, drawing, animation and stuff, just not frequent enough (like a project or two every 2-3 months) to justify a wacom bamboo. so i was thinking of getting a multi-purpose tablet for daily uses and convert it to a makeshift tablet input to draw my stuff when needed, hence the S Pen is appealing. if only other tablet like nexus 7 also support digitizer pen

I'm not exactly sure what heavy tablet usage constitutes though, aside from gaming. It's never been slow for browsing. The pen used to have added delay when using it in multi-window mode with a PDF open (not a PPT though) but 4.2.2 fixed that.

I can try loading double browser windows with Flash or something later.

may be it's my bad wording or I misread your reply but by too slow update I mean non-stock android are often way behind in new updates, that's why I like nexus 7 ( and any device that run stock android)

Just ordered my nex5. My verizon contract ends next month, so until then I can wait ~3weeks. Planning on throwing in some random prepaid plan to play around as soon as I get it. The tmobile one for 30 actually looks good enough to try but ill have to see just how limiting that 100min a month woulf be for me. Luckily ill still have my verizon phone to fall back on till then. And I can choose a different plan/carrier if it doesn't work out.

If the only thing dissuading you from using the t-mobile plan is the 100 minute cap, you could just jump on their 70$ unlimited data plan as signal strength is the only other real reason I could see NOT to use T-mobile with a nexus device. It beats any other carrier's price by quite a bit, you can bring your own device, and it does not include a contract. That's what I plan on doing as the throttling after 5GB of data is no good for me.
