Yeah I was thinking about just getting myself a contract without minimum duration and continuing with my SGS1 for a little longer depends of course on if theres any interesting announcements, dunno how likely a new nexus is any time soon

My upgrade is at the beginning of September, but I probably will just continue on a month-to-month contract until the new Nexus phone is released unless the SGS3 completely floors me when I try it.

If google keeps up with there current release cycle then you can probably expect the next nexus around this fall or winter. I have the Galaxy Nexus and i love it, i got it off contract and will probably grab the new one this coming winter when i can get it on contract.

The galaxy is the most massive phone I've ever seen, who would want to carry that around lol. Is this one any smaller?

The SGS3 is smaller than the Galaxy Nexus but slightly larger than the SGS2.
You must be a midget to think that the SGS2 is a massive phone (unless you're referring to the Galaxy Nexus).

I just HATE the fact that american cell phone companies blatantly put their ugly brand logo on front of my sexy galaxy phones. This is the main reason why I will most likely buy the international version, to avoid the ugly logo on front of my phone.

I'm lucky though because my provider isn't one of the Big 3 here (Bell, Telus, Rogers) and mine sells the international version of phones or the Bell version without branding.

no you can't. lots of phones have locked bootloaders.
You can root most Android phones, not all. I believe most motorola are still bootlocked, although they failed at it so sometimes it can still be rooted even if they are locked.

Still got my Nexus S. I didn't see the need to get the Galaxy Nexus once I got ICS 4.0.4 on the Nexus S. I will probably go for the next Nexus (4).

Rogers and Bell don't brand their phones though...?

but they do.... so says the giant rogers logo on the back of my sgh-i727

I'm still going for the S2 simply cos I've had my heart set on it since its release, luckily my contract runs out just as the S3 comes out, so fingers crossed the monthly bill will go down xD

Any idea on the battery life on this thing? That is the single most determining factor for me when it comes to any high end phone, as the practical and functional differences of these things for anyone not a hardcore phone enthusiast is probably quite small

Bell may not, but the other two certainly do. We just got Bell here so I'm not familiar with them.

Bell doesn't have branding on the S2 and I'm pretty sure Rogers don't brand the majority of their phones.

Samsung claims that their quad core technology drains less power than current dual core smartphones. So it's a possibility.

My question to Samsung: what do we need to use on our phones that require utilizing four cores? :S
I'd rather Samsung focusing on improving battery life. My Galaxy Nexus, idling most of the time, can't even last a day.
This goes for all the other phone vendors!

Chances of a quad core in the US for this phone are slim.

Interestingly enough my Galaxy S2 can do about 36-48 hours when mostly idling. I haven't done anything to try and deliberately prolong my battery life. On normal to high usage I'd say it lasts about 16 to 20 hours on a full charge, which I'm reasonably happy with.

You answered you own question. They are improving battery life. 4 cores use less power then 2. by 20% or so. read up on how they make those processors if you want to know how it's possible.
