In german it's called something like "I want my country back" [literal german title: "Ich will mein Land zurück"].

That is, if I'm understanding that site correctly because it's slow as it can get and I'm confused... and the video is not available anymore but the picture seems to be the same :p

I have no right to give my opinion on American politics, i don't live in this country and US citizens can choose their future and their gouvernement. From a foreign point of view it's just nice to see sometime the good face of US, America that we love (even the french^^).

I know you saw it on television, but is there anyway you could provide a link to that documentary? I would be very interested in it.

Of course, it's online until... today ^^: http://videos.arte.tv/fr/videos/au-coeur-du-tea-party--7024594.html (in French -it is in german if you want in the German Arte site- "Inside the Tea Party", the Tea Party in Tennesse, 90min)

They probably picked the biggest wackos in the tea party and interviewed them.

They are largely made up of wackos, so I figure it wont be too far from the truth.
I used to live in a rural area of the US that had a high proportion of "Tea Party" constituents and I can tell you that Wertherons description is not that far from the truth.

///2nd Edit: Oh and while the video is not working on arte.XXX for me, it is on other sites. SWR mediathek workes fine for me right now but as mentioned, it's in german.

The Tea Party ARE wackos dude what are you going on about? They're conspiracy theory ridden, Fox News backed or influenced, mostly ignorant, life-lived-in-a-bubble, bootstraps-pullin' wackos who don't know what a source is outside of the Drudge Report, Glenn Beck, or Sean Hannity and very rarely do they make any sort of salient political point that wasn't already backed by the conservative media.

Edit: Also, the Tea Party is the birthing grounds for all of the "Obama is a socialist Muslim Marxist Kenyan is who isn't one of us and he's going to transform this country into something we don't recognize" sentiments.

Best summary of the polling so far. It's concise and to the point. Math > guesswork.

The original tea party was bipartisan, it had both democrats and republicans. And they focused ONLY on economic issues, such as the debt, budget deficit, taxes.

What people think is the tea party are the wackos who have hijacked it and now get all of the media attention. The tea party has nothing to do with social issues or religious issues or anything like that. Anyone who talks about that stuff is not tea party. And Fox did not support the original tea party movement, except solely as a foundation to criticize Obama.

Yeah man, my man Obama has got all these checks lined up for me, gonna be making babies, smoking crack, and living the big life off of welfare. 4 more years of a free ride awww yeah.

As an European who has visited the US more then I can count on my hands(My sister studies there) and has been to probably every European country there is(We go on holidays a lot). We might be, overall, slightly less wealthy, but every European country has been, in my opinion, a more pleasurable experience than the US. The people feel more much more genuine, happier and the cultures are much less wasteful than the US. Anyway, this is just my experience.

Based on where I've been I dunno man. The people I met in Paris and Lausanne were dicks. If I had to rank the people I've met I'd put Southern France > Ottawa, CA > West Coast US > Slovenia > NE US > Southern Italy > Paris > Northern Italy > Southern US > Swiss (Alps are beautiful.. people are not). But that's just my experience.

The rest sounds about right, but I've never heard anyone have such a low opinion of the Swiss before. Now I'm really curious to know what happened there.

People talking about the tea party reminds me of discussions of when people talk about feminists. It doesn't matter if there's sane ones out there, people just go on hating on every one of them regardless.

I have a couple of well traveled German friends who swear that people in America are far nicer and more pleasant, happier people than Europeans. They have said it seems overly polite and kind of fake sometimes but I think we now have a clear reason why generalizations based on anecdotes are bad. Experiences can change from town to town. 2 people can have completely different opinions of the same place after all.

No way dude, every person you meet represent the country you're in, common knowledge!

HOLY SHIT all Swedes must have well developed senses of humor and sarcasm my mind is blown! :p

The Tea Party is what it is right now. Right now the Tea Party represents the most extreme elements of the conservative platform, whatever Tea Party your talking about is long dead.

Sorry, but the w/rest of the world is kinda big on basing decisions on Science and Reason and would like the "leader of the free world" to share those values. Thus the celebrating.
No offense to people wearing magic underwear of course, to each his own.

You clearly know very little about Mitt Romney, conservatism, the United States, or the republican party. So, fuck you. All Germans are clearly asshats like you (I can generalize too!).

That's the Tea Party©. The tea party (small t) is a bunch of honestly non-GOP activists who existed for a brief moment in time before being hijacked by the Tea Party©.

You could call them "non-GOP activists" but they are (edit: were) certainly Republican. The Ron Paul-ites who feel like the Federal Reserve is choking the world, that we're "printing money" in QE (lmao), that we need even less federal government when our national infrastructure is graded at a C or below and more private or state level involvement in things like education (an absolutely absurd notion to anyone wanting their children to have an education free of political influence, which is EXACTLY what happened in TX). All this while Ron Paul is a crook and has pocketed money from his own support groups intended to pay for travel costs.

I love the distinction with the copyright symbol, spot on. I would say that is an absolutely fair distinction to make. There is a difference between your being for austerity and cutting spending and say...+ Show Spoiler +

i haven't followed the tea party closely but nowadays the term refers to a pretty well defined set of people, at least as well defined as political groups can get defined. they have some central ideas none of which is correct.
