Roughly 59.6mil for Obama, 57mil for Romney thus far.

It think it's because when it comes to entertainment the American elections are hard to beat. The Swedish elections are a snoozefest in comparison. I'd rather call it a clusterfuck... The American or the Swedish? I'm pretty sure he means American.
And about Canada being invested, both my dad and I watched it the entire night, though my dad was watching it more seriously while I had Fox News on and was laughing at it while eating popcorn. A lot of people I know were watching it too. Us Canadians love watching the mess that is American politics. It makes our politics seem so tame and peaceful by comparison.

Looks like our little experiment with democracy has failed like all the other countries before the takers now out weigh the makers and we might as well be a European country now on our way down the drain. Congrats you guys win a few more years of free stuff just in time to finish crushing our economy and ensure all the large businesses they are not welcome here.

As predicted by the Bookies, Ohio and Virginia went to Obama. Florida still undeclared though? Obama has won it too according to the Bookies. Romney got crushed in the Electoral Colleges. Down by 100 votes!
I wonder if the Republicans will look at this defeat and attempt to change to make themselves more electable. The growing importance of the non-white vote demographic presents major challenges for the Republicans going forward. They need to address this issue or face increased marginalisation as the white vote loses it's majority status. I suspect in the short term there will be attempts to blame their loss on something trivial. I expect Christie will be scapegoated in some circles even though he was merely representing his New Jersey constituency in a time of crisis.
Four more years for Obama, congrats to him.

Major Swing states were counted late/took a long time to 'call' compared to most others(Obama ended up winning all swing states except North Carolina).
I don't think it was a land slide but it certainly wasn't close IMO. The popular vote is 2 points going for obama. It was close don't be silly. also the tv stations need the ratings. They got to entertain the republicans to keep watching even if they arn't going to win. and the dems to stay tuned to make sure that obama wins.
I dunno, 2 percentage points for Obama is certainly a lot closer than a toss-up. Especially given how Obama was polling in swing states before the race.
There's really no argument the pundits (left and right) can make to justify themselves as anything more than entertainers today.

Fixed that for you. Now you're a conservative's nightmare!

As an European who has visited the US more then I can count on my hands(My sister studies there) and has been to probably every European country there is(We go on holidays a lot). We might be, overall, slightly less wealthy, but every European country has been, in my opinion, a more pleasurable experience than the US. The people feel more much more genuine, happier and the cultures are much less wasteful than the US. Anyway, this is just my experience.

As long as we keep accepting and voting what mass media says, you guys will keep choosing between Fake A and Fake B pretty much the same as in every "democratic" country

Big congratulations to Obama, and big boos to Americans for somehow making this even. Even more boos to how ridiculous Palin and Trump are acting right now.

Oh man, I just went and watched the videos of Rove arguing with the other Fox analysts. Really awkward and funny. Rove appeared desparate, the rest of them did a decent job of maintaining professionalism.

I'm kind of surprised that voter turnout is lower. I thought people were all pumping this election up to be an election of really high stakes and importance.
Guess most people realized that the hype is not really true, but still, thought voter turnout would be higher given the stakes.

Finally, we can all relax knowing that Romney was kept out of the office of presidency.
Still, though, I'm worried that nothing's gonna change. If I'm not mistaken, Republicans still control the house and they are gonna do everything in their power to make sure nothing gets passed. Here's hoping for a more productive congress these next few years.

Less then one percent of the nations population voted more for obama then romney. thats a pretty good reason to justify sayings its close for people.
All news is entertainment. Its the only reason why you'd watch fox news other then just catching the results the next day in your newspaper anyway.

Not going to lie was a pretty bad day yesterday for me personally. Romney loses, and then to make things far worse California approves Proposition 30. Really lost a lot of faith in my fellow state voters.

HEY EVERYONE!
I'm too happy for words. Obama gets re-elected (with the electoral vote and the popular vote), the Senate stays in Democratic hands, Elizabeth Warren gets elected, Mourdock, Walsh, Akin and quite a few others lose, hopefully Allen West loses, and marriage equality is adopted in Maryland and Maine, looks on the verge of being adopted in Washington, and is not banned in Minnesota. Too bad Bachmann got elected, but she might contribute to maintaining the tensions inside the Republican party with her extreme views, so it might be a blessing in disguise for Democrats.
Yesterday night was amazing. I was watching with a few friends on CNN, had a Fox News stream on the computer, and I was simultaneously checking various websites to get the info as soon as possible. I was also refreshing this thread punctually, but since I was on someone else's laptop and I had forgotten my password, I was unable to post. The faces of Fox News commentators, and the subsequent tears of Karl Rove over the Ohio call, felt amazingly sweet. I literally jumped to my feet when the President won, and have had a grin on my face ever since.
I know this post is going to get lost in these last pages, but I would like to thank a few posters for contributing to this thread. It's been very enjoyable to discuss this campaign here - I'll probably stick around, but so far I've read every single page of the thread (and of the previous Republican nominations thread) and it's been one hell of a ride :p Thanks to paralleluniverse (your posts on the economy are always a pleasure to read), Defacer, farvacola, aksfjh, DoubleReed, Stratos_speAr, Derez, Leporello, koreasilver, mcc and Souma, among others (my brain is still a bit fuzzy from the partying last night, so I can't remember everyone!), for their contributions to the thread. Thanks to the mods (in particular Stealthblue, Failing and Kwark) for doing a good job keeping all of this civil. I'll be honest, I sometimes wanted to bang my head against the wall at what I was reading from some conservative posters, but we would not have had this level of discussion and I would not have been able to read some of the replies of the posters listed above had there been no conservative posters participating.
Cheers!

Based on where I've been I dunno man. The people I met in Paris and Lausanne were dicks. If I had to rank the people I've met I'd put Southern France > Ottawa, CA > West Coast US > Slovenia > NE US > Southern Italy > Paris > Northern Italy > Southern US > Swiss (Alps are beautiful.. people are not). But that's just my experience.
