Couldn't be happier with my state. Amendment to state constitution to say marriage is between an man and a woman: Failed. Amendment requiring photo ID to vote: Failed. Went for Obama, and the race against the crazy lady in the sixth district Michelle Bachmann is looking like it is going to be a recount. WP MN

It makes me sad that most Canadians seem way more invested in this election than any of our own. Apparently like 75% of Canadians were down for a Obama re-election lol. Good on him, I hope he does the US proud.

It think it's because when it comes to entertainment the American elections are hard to beat. The Swedish elections are a snoozefest in comparison.

I'd rather call it a clusterfuck...

The American or the Swedish?

3 million votes (so far) difference is a landslide to people now?

Depending on what states those votes are in (due to the electoral college system), yup.

That and Obama was down at one point almost 2 million votes I believe.

Plus it's more of a landslide in terms of the votes that matter, IE: 306 to 203

Almost happy with mine as well. Questions were pretty boring but voted yes on both.

That obstructionist clown Bob Menendez almost got voted out but then the urban counties came in last and mirked Joe Kyrillos hard.

Winning the popular vote by possibly 2-3 percentage points is a much more convincing win than all the B.S. pundits started spouting last night about him losing the popular vote and winning the EC (because they apparently missed California, Washington, and Oregon still counting their votes).

Yeah, last night I was laughing my ass off at the Fox news people who kept harping on that. It's not like there's this big giant blob of a state on the west coast with a huge population that consistently votes democrat that they haven't yet factored into their counts....

Watching the news channels of the count made it seem deceptively close.

The lower population areas got their counts done faster(many of which leaned republican).
West cost states were counted later(many which lean democrat)
The 'heatmap' they kept showing on fox(i know) was like 80% covered in red - Due to large land mass/low population republican areas and many democrat states(particularly the north-east coast) are small by land mass.
Major Swing states were counted late/took a long time to 'call' compared to most others(Obama ended up winning all swing states except North Carolina).

I don't think it was a land slide but it certainly wasn't close IMO.

The popular vote is 2 points going for obama. It was close don't be silly.

also the tv stations need the ratings. They got to entertain the republicans to keep watching even if they arn't going to win. and the dems to stay tuned to make sure that obama wins.

I really hope these results make some people on this forum realize just how far out of reality they were, living in their right wing bubble. But somehow I got the feeling that next election they will still listen to Dick Morris, Karl Rove and all the other horrible pundits of their choice.

i have never been to america but i honestly wanted obama to win for the sake for america, its citizens and the world. so glad obama won and america proving it still had some humanity and common sense left in them.

based on what exactly, you didnt like the big bad republican like everyone else? im not sure why people are celebrating so hard, nothing has changed and obama will continue to run up the debt to astronomical levels until investors are so shit scared of spending money in america that the market will recede harder than it did the first time. but gay marriage and free contraception are all that matters, right?

No need to be bitter about everything. Its pretty obvious from the bush years that reps have been getting a really bad rep around the world. Not to mention how wildly liberal all the other developed nations in the world are tilted.

I would have a large problem with someone voting based on what other people in the world think of american politics but everyone is entilited to their opinions even us big bad republicans .

fair enough, i just dont understand the jubilation. obama defending re-election does not really equate to an economic turnaround, when so far he hasnt done much to dissuade the notion that the debt will continue to grow (i.e. top down government stimulus).

No. From earlier posts:

See Figure 1 and 2: https://www.cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/attachments/03-16-APB1.pdf

Note that:
CBO Baseline = Hit fiscal cliff.
CBO Alternative = Avoid fiscal cliff

As you can see, Obama's budget stabilizes debt to GDP at around 80%, which is about the halfway point between avoiding the fiscal cliff and hitting the fiscal cliff.

People who accuse Obama of reckless spending need to answer questions of the following sort: Given that Obama inherited a $11.9 trillion debt in 2009, which is projected to be $16.4 trillion in 2012, what reckless spending did Obama embark on to increase the debt by $4.5 trillion over his term?

The stimulus? That's only $0.8 trillion, which is only 18% of that increase. Where did the other 82% of the increase come from?

Obamacare? The CBO says that will reduce, not increase the deficit, but even if you don't believe that, Obamacare doesn't come into effect until 2014, so it can't possibly be responsible for any of the increase.

So where's the increase in the debt coming from? What's Obama recklessly spending all that money on?

Maybe, just maybe, Obama didn't recklessly increase spending, and the increase in the debt mainly comes from the GFC and past policies such as the Bush tax cuts.

I know Obama won, but are there any numbers on how many people voted? This election felt bigger, I'm curious to see what the turnout was.

It does but obama has said that hes not going to have the justice department spend any money enforcing that law.

I'm very happy for all the Americans this will affect from both sides of the political spectrum. The majority of Romney voters will be better off under Obama, the system works.
