Exactly. To be honest, i see this as a pretty "clever" way to get more speculations and maybe even votes for Romney just because of the birth certification bullshit that has been going on.
If Obama doesn't do anything, i'm sure there are people who take it as Obama has something to hide and thus maybe doesn't vote for him or just questions him about it. People are pretty simply minded when it comes to these things.
But yeah, pretty facepalm stuff right here though.
The birth certificate thing was nonsense, but this is a pretty legitimate request. I could care less about his college grades ad passport records, why didn't Trump demand his college papers? That's what I'm concerned about. We already know that Frank Marshall Davis, a well known communist, was a father-figure to Obama. We also know that Bill Ayers, another well known communist, was one of Obama's closest friends in college.
Obama claims that he wrote some very conservative and pro-American papers in college, but he has yet to provide any evidence of this. All of the evidence we have of that time in his life shows that he was even more radical back then than he is now.
I'm more interested in Romney's tax returns...
That's about as ridiculous as the brither-nonsense. Also, I thought Romney did release his tax returns a month or two ago?

How is it unreasonable? The American people have no idea who Obama is, he is just sort of a magical figure who came out of nowhere. How did someone that no one had ever heard of, someone who only served a few years as a senator, suddenly become president of the most powerful country on the planet? That is a frightening question.
I'd argue they have even less of an idea of who Romney is.
That's also a valid argument, he is also a newcomer to politics, especially federal politics. I blame the primary system for giving us two incompetent and inexperienced morons who appeal to the uneducated masses instead of intellectuals and party loyalists.

So you care very much about college records but tax records are a nono? And Romney refuses to release his tax returns from the years he worked at Bain capital, which are the years people are actually interested in. Not the years where he had reason to be squeeky clean because he was running for office.

I don't really care. It's pretty much the same crap Harry Reid pulled on Romney with his tax returns. If he doesn't people might think there is something to hide, if he does he caves to a bogus request.

Well, it's unreasonable to frame it as an opportunity and not to give Romney the same opportunity, for one thing.

It provides a valuable insight into Obama's real views, views that he didn't think would ever be publicly released.
Who cares about college transcripts when the Libya story is blowing up? Now it is looking like the administration knew about the attack within two hours of it beginning and refused to send in military backup to protect the consulate. Possible reasons for the administration's obvious attempt at a coverup are coming into focus.

Not college records, but college papers. I would like to see Romney's college papers as well, especially his papers on politics.
Tax returns, birth certificates, passport records, etc. are all just non-sense that have nothing to do with the views of the individual, what he/she personally wrote on the subject does.

Well, part of the argument there was that Romney said he wouldn't give the government more money than he absolutely had to, yet he overpaid. And he did take charitable deductions, but not to the maximum value he was allowed. The shock that he pays a lower tax rate than many people was alleviated by the millions he donates to his church and other charities.

People's views change, especially after college. If you look at someone's school assignments taken from when they are half their current age, you would not have a very accurate view of that person - only who they used to be.

Are you talking about the emails or what? I can find zero evidence for this claim. Fox is currently running a story about social media being used to claim responsibility and knowing the culprit two hours after the attack. CNN and all the other sites are running their own stories about it.

Its stupid. Its stupid because Trump has constantly targeted Obama as being illegitimate in some way shape or form. Has any other candidate ever had this request made of him? Same shit for the birth certificate. If there was anything bad in his college essays it would be out by now as people who knew him in college would have spilled and/or would have been talked to.
Pretty much the same thing with Romney's tax returns lol. People are so dumb on both sides its getting out of hand with the shit people are trying to pull now a days.

The only thing I have seen regarding emails is a report on emails during the attack and going back into the assessment of what the attack was and the response. Basically what Mitt tried to talk about that 1 time in the debate before he whiffed it.

I'm asking because both Romney and Obama are smart guys and they've been part of their respective parties for a long time. So they seem to fit your definition of a good candidate.

What's wrong with saying that? I'm pretty sure most people want to pay as few taxes as possible. Thank you for clarifying on the charitable deductions thing. If anything, I think the fact that he payed a lower income tax than most people shows why we need a flat tax system (and that the "progressive" tax system has failed).
There are also people who earlier in this thread stated that Romney doesn't really pay a lower tax rate, since that only factors in federal income tax, and not financial transaction and investment taxes. I didn't bring this up though, since I am not all that well versed on our tax code.
I'm sorry if I came across as rude in that post earlier, I didn't mean to come across in such a manner.
I've gotta say, this thread has really degenerated over the past few days. I keep popping in to join an interesting conversation and it's all petty party partisan bullshit. Tax returns and college papers? Seriously?

Blame the fact that Trump's idiotic letter has actually been covered in mainstream publications.
