Also, worth mentioning when it comes to priorities and obstruction, but after the protest at the Supreme Court justice's house, Congress unanimously passed a bill granting them security. Thats clearly too good for children at school though.

Sounds like he might have been able to do a bunch more if she hadn't. Scary to think the next one could be worse. But also apparently the gunman was in the school for like an hour before the cops intervened even though they had exchanged gunfire before he entered the school. That sounds fucked up. Don't get me wrong the main issue is obviously the lax gun laws but this is also fucked up. This story is hitting several of my Fuck the US buttons at the same time.

21 police officers have suffered gunfire-related deaths in 2022. Whereas 24 children have been killed in school shootings so far this year. Being a child should not be more deadly than being a police officer.

I could be very cynical about this. So I will. Fuck that shit. You don't become a pistol-carrying police officer who gets whatever the fuck kind of training you even get anymore, telling unsuspecting people that your job is to "protect and serve", only to let dozens of innocent kids get shot dead in the middle of the school day. They stood by and let this shit happen. Apparently other bystanders were shouting at them to do something, and had to contemplate charging the shooter themselves because the police weren't doing shit. Good guy with a gun, indeed.

The bottom line is law enforcement was there,” McCraw said. “They did engage immediately. They did contain (Ramos) in the classroom. They contained the shooter in a classroom full of children he could murder so there was no point going in. Blue lives matter more than children apparently.

Doing a whole lot to instill the public's confidence in the police as an institution, that's for sure.

They essentially convinced people that if chefs didn't have access to sharp knives, they would still find a way to slice and prep all the food, and still have the exact same output. The tool specifically designed for that exact job, which makes it significantly easier to do, has nothing to do with how much and how successfully people are doing it. Somehow.

Guns are probably not going anywhere in America but banning assault weapons would probably be a massive step in the right direction. Shootings would be so much less deadly if assault weapons were hard to come by. No one needs to own an assault weapon for self defence. That would require 10 Republican senators to vote for it. Every time Democrats try to pass any gun control legislation it is 100% opposed by Republicans. Having complete, unrestricted access to guns is an entrenched part of American Conservative identity now due to decades of propaganda by the gun lobby.

And then if the couple who were there get shot by him by rushing in how many more can kill? So you're saying that you wouldn't help children because they're probably already dead so no point risking your life? I find that a distasteful attitude for a police force. ![]() When your police force is pulling tasers on concerned parents I think that is a problem.
