Although this thread does not function under the same strict guidelines as the USPMT, it is still a general practice on TL to provide a source with an explanation on why it is relevant and what purpose it adds to the discussion. Failure to do so will result in a mod action. |

A problem won't magically disappear if 0 measures are taken to combat it.

Democrats actually have a lot of pull currently. They've had a chance to push for gun control for the past year and a half. So technically speaking democrats have the largest say in how the country is ran at this time.

As sad as it is Im almost certain nothing will change. Except maybe more guns and shooting. yeah ted cruz's comments were showing his delusion pretty bad. also i found it funny that one of the first things he said was (paraphrased) "shootings like these are politicised to take away our 2nd amendment rights", and then he goes on to use the shooting to make his own political statement about how gun violence should be combatted with better law enforcement.

Ted Cruz isn't delusional he, like so so so many of our politicians, are just happy to trade the lives of countless children and teens and adults for money from the gun lobby. Our politicians are mostly not insane (MTG and the like excepted) they're just black hearted and willing to trade people's quality of life and actual lives for money. They're Lawful Evil, not Chaotic Stupid.
Emphasis on Evil.

As a comparison, i am a teacher in Germany. No one has any guns in school. We don't have metal detectors at the entrance, and we don't have school cops.
It is a much more relaxing and friendly atmosphere. And no one gets shots. It has been like that in every school i have been in so far.

Given yesterday's school shooting, they've increased the number of police officers and security guards at my school today. That'll probably last a day or so. We don't have metal detectors, but some schools in nearby areas do.

Id like to mention that the shooting actually HAD officers intercept the shooter but he got in and massacred anyways

I wonder how the US will look back on itself 50 years from now , I believe there is no way this stays the way it is for that long , its out of hand , and the guns are now better then ever and will probably continue to evolve and cause more damage per shooting , crazy , just crazy.
Its like the Bible , something that was written so long ago is being held as holy for the rest of days , if science had this way of thinking we wont be making any progress.
Do you think a "gun change" campaign is doomed to fail ? or some republicans will move over just to get it under control ? I cant imagine half of the US population are pro guns in the state they are now.

And logic for the most part has disappeared and been replaced with, we are the opposite of those guys.
You don't even need that. You need 50% of legislators in both houses of congress to agree. What the population thinks is irrelevant, as long as it doesn't make them vote differently, but even then they may not have a choice to vote for someone who wants to change stuff.

So really what we need is good people to be in power, too bad those are rare anywhere near positions of power in this dump.

It reads like police engaged the shooter before he entered the school, then once he was inside they waited for the tac team to arrive? Is that fair to say?
You know where I stand on the rest of this, Zambrah is doing a good job. Also worth mentioning that Buffalo didn't make the thread.

All NRA members should be *required* to bring several loaded guns to that conference. I mean, what are they afraid of?

On the surface, yes, but in reality, no. 2 of the democrats currently sitting in the senate are practically republicans in disguise. They repeatedly refuse to vote for a lot of popular democratic legislations. On top of which, even if they have a majority, republicans can just infinitely stall it into oblivion. There's no real way to make drastic changes on a national scale without a supermajority
