I feel fabulous.
Congrats, you have now entered men's fashion hell. You are now in the first circle of this hell, enjoy your trip downwards

burberry in circle 2 and topman in 3?

Burberry (diffusion). So the Brit line. Prorsum is top tier ofc. I don't get how j.crew, BR etc are earlier than the faux rich circle either but hey I found it on /fa/ so its liable to not make any sense.

Do you guys try to diversify the brands of stuff you own? There's not a single brand where I own more than like 3 pieces from not counting like socks and shit. So I have no idea where I fit in hell.

Not yet I haven't. A big part of that is the fit/cut. If one brand make stuff that fits me well with minimal tailoring, I'm happy.

i like their shirts for casual business but i think the boo are better quality albeit in a weird cut
wide shoulders/chest thin waist is my problem as well. xs is too small in the shoulders, s too big in the waist or too long in the sleeves. do band of outsiders fit you better?

i try to diversify because i want first hand experience of various brands before i decide to cut down. eventually i'm sure i'm going to narrow it down to our legacy and maybe 5 more.

This made me kind of wonder how regulars here envision their fashion 10-20ish years from now. Not as much which designers or whatever, but how their style will evolve with age. Basically do you guys think you should/would 'dress your age' and what that means at 30, 40, 50 years old?
If someone wanted to drop some images of what they think is appropriate and something they would wear if they were 45 today and think it might still fit in at a place like this (a group of fashionable fellas )?
Basically can I see some examples of how you guys would dress if you were in your 40's-50's instead of your actual age. Or do people just generally think the stuff here would make sense for a 50 y.o. to wear also?
Because right now I have an image of you guys showing up to a E-Sports event at 50+ looking basically like this...

This stuff confuses me on so many levels, just when I think this fashion stuff is starting make sense I get confused all over again.

you have to try different stuff to find what you like, and what you like will change over time. Not as much about brands as "aesthetic/style" since lots of brands go together.

I'm only at the 8th circle, not bad.
in 10+ years i can keep wearing sweats 20+ i can wear OCBDs and real trousers, which is what I wanted to do like 2 years ago so it all works out.
to be fair, we have a mix of people not that into fashion, and people very into the internet subculture of fashion on here. which makes sense, as it's a starcraft forum.
what part about that picture confuses you?

i've tried on geoffrey b. small before and that was when I realized some labels take themselves way too seriously and are completely ignorant of what they actually are compared to the "ethos" they put out. But I'm glad I had that experience since I like fashion mainly because it makes me think about art.

Ok so maybe the thing is I'm just already a old fogy fashion wise/you guys will be 'hip' 40 somethings.
There were some little tweaks (the highwater roll up look/color) and some outfits (like the fisherman looking one) that are pretty far off my range but some of that stuff looked pretty sharp in my opinion. particularly the first look.
I feel like both the Rick Owens pic and this one, If I dressed like that (without the jacket or rolling up) people would say I was dressed like a thug/gangster though.
I feel like the last thing most people would think is 'fashionable'. But maybe that's just me being self conscious. Forgive me if I'm using fogy jargon too.
what part about that picture confuses you?
That's basically it, plus I feel like wearing the same outfit as teenagers at 50 is a little weird. But I don't really think that's a big deal and imagine that's a reasonably popular opinion here (not in most places I know of though) Another part that get's me is I can't help but think of the sagging pants body skeleton meme, and presume people would think the same if I wore it.

you should read this article about how men's fashion is becoming more accepted. style isnt just for ladies; i feel like your concerns regarding what you consider 'age appropriate clothes' don't apply as strictly to women (aside from revealing clothes, i suppose).

I'm not that tough on guys either really personally, just I know the people I run into day to day would be thinking/saying stuff like "dress your age".
I went to Hawaii a while back and it was an eye opening experience in a lot of ways. Relevant here was how a lot of Japanese women dressed like 18-23 y.o. even though they were probably 40-50 possibly older. Other than almost accidentally hitting on some grandmas, I didn't see anything wrong with it either.
I'm not that fogyish, I'd be more than happy to take my future wife out wearing something like this if she could pull it off nearly as well at any age
Oh and interesting piece I haven't gotten through all of it but it touches on a lot of things I'm familiar with.

As far as hell goes I'm at 90's Helmut Lang, albeit just a shirt. tfw when im the deepest.
I die a little every time I see someone with cuffed pants so this page hurt me a lot. Am I alone in this thread in my hate? I think ~95% of responders in the recent MFA census said they liked it but I just can not understand the appeal.

actually now that i look at that again i could pull off that dadcore vibe, between that and "real job" stuff. id wear purple label and white mountaineering all the time when im older with money lol
i dont like cuffs but i hate no break tapered pants more. especially when they end well above where it should break
