i also need a new haircut i think
anyway like i generally like sling and messenger bags as well but the main thing is that it HAS to be minimalistic and black, that y-3 one wouldn't have been shit if they took out that fucking blue on the side jesus christ

I prefer messengers too tbh but cant use messengers when wearing a coat t_t
But i have some joseph abboud messenger in black and a leather flap i got as a gift once. Not the best but its actually held up really well

I recently picked up a few spring jackets 80% off on a clearance rack that I feel looked pretty nice, but I don't know what to wear under them, what colors to use with them, etc. depends on the piece. what kind of jackets are they? color wise, a little color theory doesn't hurt anyone. complimentary colors, especially when subtle, go pretty good. otherwise, colors that are next to each other (say yellow/orange/red) can work okay, especially with neutrals. color theory is actually really cool to read about lol. i generally don't buy stuff that wouldn't fit into what i own already (ie i dont own any leather because i have nothing to wear it with) so i cant really help you there. what do you normally wear?
Casual, usually a tee and a pair of jeans (I usually enjoy darker washes). When I want to dress a little nicer for whatever reason I go with a nice button up shirt, but unless I'm going something really formal I still wear it with a pair of jeans
As to what type of jackets they are, I don't have the vocabulary to describe a lot of clothing stuff, but they're just light jackets (about as thick as a hoodie would be or a little thinner) they're zip up, and they're quite long (most jackets I have end around the waist, these go a bit further down)

I'm still using my northface recon first gen I've used since like sophomore year of high school so like 6+ years
I was ahead of the curve with that northface steez

I was going to suggest Porter.
Porters are good quality. It's a very common brand here in Japan, and I get the feeling it's being marketed as something that's somewhat upscale in the U.S.
My other suggestion was going to be a Filson, but that's really far from what he wanted =/

are you saying that if you buy it domestically it's far cheaper than 34k yen? if so are you willing to be a proxy
also while we're on this tangent, how is south2west8 and cdg percieved in Japan? I get the feeling brands that are commonplace in Japan, such as uniqlo and muji, are all being marketed in the west as kind of a sophisticated urbanite product when it's actually dirt cheap and a pedestrian commodity in the domestic market.

International shipping is like $80 for a 5lb box via ups tho
Unless theres better ways to do that shit

I'm pretty sure it'd be the same price, at least that website looks like it's the official one. I was just commenting on the perception of Porter in Japan is just a regular bag, there's nothing special, at all, about the brand. I probably see 5-10 in every train compartment.
Never heard of south2west8 or cdg... Uniqlo is probably slightly lower than the Gap in the States, and Muji a little above. I mean, both of these stores serve their purpose in providing daily necessities to the masses, but they are way over hyped in NY (the Soho store is always packed, and people were lining up outside of new opening near Herald Sq.).
edit:
Scratch cdg, I didn't know you meant comme des garcons, cdg is actually really high-end in Tokyo as well, but I think it'd be significantly cheaper than the U.S. (I don't actually know how much they cost in the U.S.), especially with the weakening Yen. Their store in Aoyama is quite amazing actually.

I've been wearing these brown Lacoste shoes but i feel like they don't really match ( I also heard you're not supposed to wear brown shoes with black pants??). I'm looking for a more casual type of shoe I can wear anywhere( mostly just to school). Oh, and I'm 19 if that's of any relevance. Thanks!
Depends on if you can pull of black with brown, not many people can. I for one, cannot haha.
The path I usually go with is matching your shoes with the color shirt or hoodie you are wearing. If you're on a tight budget, converse all stars are never a bad way to go.
Then again, not everyone is a shoe enthusiast or if you're not into brightly colored shoes to match your shirt, in your situation black jeans would go well with black shoes with white (the classic converse all stars) or vice versa, white shoes with black (adidas superstars). Both of these are pretty affordable if you're on a college budget.
If you don't want to go with black on black. I suggest lighter colored shoes, I'm no good with creative color names, but a light brown would work if you prefer brown shoes. Light blue, light green, light pink (if that floats your boat) etc.
I hope that helps and good luck!

I was behind the curve with the whole northface thing, but I went with a green amira instead of the black jester that everyone had.
i've had this bad boy since my freshman year of college and it is still going strong after 7 years.

This thread is getting really scary lately. If you want to dress sharp, forget about black, forget about Northface and forget about all those bags...
Black is never as good as any other color. I know this is hard to get, I also thought that black could look sleek and good a while ago, but that is just not true. Avoid black whenever possible. There are just three things where black is the right choice: Business shoes (and belt, wristwatch, brief case accordingly), black tie events (dinner jacket) and funeral suits. Brown always looks better for everything else. Every time you see black, picture the same situation with another color and it just works out better. It is very, very hard to combine and to pull off black. Basically it only works with grey and that looks pretty boring unless you know how to put colored accents very well. The more you embrace this and focus on it, the more you will recognize, even if you were in denial just like me.
Also please forget all those multifunctional Northface/Jack Wolfskin/whatever jackets, made to withstand -40°C. I thought us Germans were already the worst regarding functional clothing over style... Nice jackets are for example wax jackets (classic: green barbour), harringtons blousons (Baracuta G9 / G4, Ben Sherman, Fred Perry…), all kinds of coats, etc. In navy/green/khaki and maybe grey.
Almost all of the bags look really cheap. There are a lot of choices that are more stylish in different price regions, leather as well as canvas. Backpacks are generally considered a bad choice for style in comparison to nice leather brief cases and are really informal. Some nice looking backpacks:

(shamelessly stolen selection from Kubi @ http://www.pickupforum.de/topic/7339-accessoiremegathread/page__view__findpost__p__1374473)
Unless you have good reasons for a backpack, I would rather recommend something like this (there is no limit in price if you want to scale it up): http://www.tuscanyleather.it/en/leather-briefcases/messenger-double-freestyle-leather-bag-p-475.html?language=en - Messenger Bag http://www.tuscanyleather.it/en/leather-briefcases/vernazza-leather-briefcase-with-laptop-compartment-p-1096.html - Laptop Brief case http://www.tuscanyleather.it/en/leather-briefcases/prato-exclusive-leather-laptop-case-p-890.html - Leather Laptop Case
The anti-black rant from above applies to backpacks just as much. The only fair reason for a black brief case would be black cap toe oxfords for business, but then a backpack is the wrong choice as well and you need something a lot more formal.

That's a very MC way of looking at things. I don't necessarily disagree, but you have to realize that some people's (and i assume pulse's is) aesthetic is different. Some people prefer the all black everything (whether streetwear, or ninja, or whatever) look and as a thread we should appreciate and celebrate that. Especially since there's only 2-3 people that actually do that look.
That said, i do like your recs. i might pick one up at some point. But i don't think such a closed look at clothing is the best thing. Not everyone prefers classic menswear. Black on black on black, depending on your styling, can look fantastic - ask Ann D, or Yohji.
^_^.
I rly wish pulse would post fits tho

I've got nothing against nice streetwear. ;-) There are fantastic sneakers (<3 Lanvin or CP, even Converse/Keds), great raw indigo denim and chinos and lovely plain color t-shirts. It is just that black looks terrible. It might be "the right thing" within some subculture or for some very distinct look, but not as a general recommendation. I think this thread should really advocate and educate to step away from black whenever possible. There are still plenty of people who think that black button down shirts can look good (on white people!)...
Aesthetic perception needs to grow through exposure. Style is a skill that needs to be developed (and has culturally developed) and requires that you have a fair share of experience. I think after some time of caring about it, almost everyone would agree, that there are very few styles that involve black that look better than the same outfit in other colors. Sure, good looking people in good fits do not look bad, but they could look better! :-) Took me too long to realize myself, so I rather try to hint into the right direction, as this thread was drifting strongly into the other direction. Needs some antipole opinion (do you say that on english?) and more color!

Hey, also had a question on the subject of colours.
I was told (in the shop) that black shoes are the most universal and go with about every colour of suit. Brown shoes can be ok also they said, specially below a navy coloured suit, they are a bit more sporty and less informal but brown shoes below a light grey suit was definatly not done (they should be black according to the sales guy) However after looking around a bit i noticed tons of people having brown shoes below grey or dark suits wich made me doubt again, my favorit pair of shoes is brown and now i like to know if i can safely wear them below a grey suit or if i realy should wear black shoes below that.
