I haven't made it yet, but I'm pretty excited about it considering that I've been eating Nissin Cup Noodles for my entire life.
There are some really good ideas in this thread though which I will be trying out. Specifically, I'm gonna be adding the egg to my Shin Ramyun when I make it. I'll post what I think of the noodles and how the preparation turned out as well. =P If you haven't eaten this type of ramen before, you shouldn't add the whole pack of spice as it's pretty hot. Especially if you're white. wtf man, This is the most ignorant shit I've seen. Just because traditionally asian or whatever cultures you are thinking of, have more spicy ingredients does not mean white people do not like, or can not take spicy foods. I would literally need drugs and rehab if I was unable to eat spicy foods ever again and I am, of course, white. Have you ever eaten a Habenero pepper raw? I have. Do you use tabasco, tapatio, sri racha on everything to the point where it's not even hot no matter how much you layer on? I do. Do you chop onions and naga viper peppers and rub your eyes just for fun? I will. calm down buddy, the stereotype usually stands true 90% of the time Hahah, when I was in the UK for uni people around me were like AHMAHGAWD SO HOT at some random curry that I thought was really bland. And people always chided spices saying it was just a way of masking bad taste. So yeah, stereotypes usually exist for a reason ;/ Is there a poll on this? <.< Just seems kinda random. Much more of a regional thing probably. People with a wider variety of tastes (in food) are more likely to try and like spicy foods. I've grown up loving spicy food and most of my white family is the same way. Spicy food is very cultural.
Well everyone in my family is terrible at cooking and they hate spicy food. My older sister thinks bell peppers are hot.. But! I have a lot of asian/latino friends and I've tried lots of different foods from all different cultures especially since I live in Southern California where there is a diversity of restaurants .

I don't know many (or any girls) that like spicy foods. Or at least I've met some that claim they like it but I've never seen them eat or make anything spicy. Not saying it's a girl thing, because that's almost the same as saying its a white thing, but just what I've observed.

Does anyone else hate eggs? I don't like eating eggs. I like putting a bit of romaine lettuce in my ramen for a bit of vegetables. Also, I like saving my left over soup and cooking some udon noodles for a second round for another meal. Ultimate cheap college student diet.

Anyone have suggestions for a replacement that I might be able to find outside of an asian grocery store?
You do realized that all studies point to MSG being a perfectly harmless compound right?

I actually boil it twice, the first time just to get ride of the oil and starch, the second time for the flavouring packs, and as soon as it boils I remove it from the pot. Eat like like Nal-Ra mix it in with some rice lol

Today was the first time I ever put an egg in my ramen.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

When it comes to adding eggs to it - I've recently started experimenting with soft-poaching the eggs in the broth while cooking the noodles.
So far - I like the results.

Agreed. I think ice water with some citrus is a really good way to complement any meal =)

I do the obvious egg, but I also like adding lettuce to my ramen for some crunch.

*Steals all the eggs.* I'm not a big fan of ramen tbh. I'll eat it if there's nothing else, but as with rice I don't really enjoy it when I do have to eat it. It makes me feel really sluggish and kind of ill.

Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Conglaturation !!! You have completed a great game. And prooved the justice of our culture. Now go and rest our heroes !
MSG actually just produces a strong umami taste. It's a combination of organic compounds that triggers that taste on your tongue. It's not actually unhealthy to eat or anything.

I've been addicted to Srirachi hot chili sauce lately, on pretty much anything that it tastes amazing with (burgers, sandwiches, fries, some soups) and I'm curious to get others' opinions on what the best way to add spicy sauces like this is to Ramen. My favorite way to prepare it (drizzled egg and scallions, no broth) just doesn't seem to go well with it simply on top when it's ready to eat. Can decide to whip it in, put it in with the broth while cooking.... Too many choicessss

i like to put some kimchi in my ramen to put some spice in it and also it tastes a lot better! besides kimchi i really cannot stand any kind of spicyness in noodles, i dont know why. But anyways, i like fried eggs in my ramen, and i see some of you like boiled eggs.
why boiled eggs and not fried?
