As horrifying as that clip was, I would request that people stop singling out the Chinese. You can find incidents like this in the history of any major urban area. There was a horrifying incident in New York a few years back where a woman was hunted and murdered in a thirty minute interval from the original assault to the actual murder, and all this in a residential neighborhood that ignored her cries for help. This is an urban phenomenon, not a Chinese one, and to suggest that this has to do with accusations directed at helpers I find a little silly.

But still this is absolutely horrifying. I almost wish I hadn't watched the video.
Never Forget.

This is the saddest thing I have ever seen. I jumped out of my chair when the van stopped, and then just continued to run her over. Fuck the bystanders I don't give a shit, they are to blame as well if she dies. The guy who hit her in the first place should have stopped (shocking I know), and some of you think we shouldn't blame the bystanders? YOU ARE CRAZY

The dude on the motorcycle that clearly slowed down to look is the worst part. Absolutely horrifying.

No, this phenomenon is not barbaric in the US. I've heard it happen plenty of times and even seen it happen (I've usually gone to the rescue in those several occasions, and in one case I was even indicted as the perpetrator even when the victim vouched for me... it took above-godly tact and argumentation to get out of that pickle), despite the "Good Samaritan" law. People getting beat up, shot, hit by vehicles, you name it. The best I've seen or heard of is something calling an ambulance and then going along their way, by strangers that is (obviously a family member or good friend is going to be of some serious assistance).

Hell what am I saying? Just a couple months ago, a relative was at a gas station in the evening, got assaulted, tried to fight back and was shot a few times (and the thugs left), and people still came to the gas station and didn't do shit, the people/employees inside the store didn't do shit. She had to crawl her way into there and basically show them her condition and to call the police before anyone did anything.

Yep, sounds like he's making stuff up to make a point.

Quit being selfish man. This is not about China. This is about people being messed up.

Even I, now, knowing that I could get accused, would think once, twice, thrice about helping. I'm not even sure I would. Don't you all go thinking you would be a hero when a person claiming to be the child's mother is just waiting in the shadows to pounce on you for the money when you try to lend a hand.

You wanna talk about selfishness? Seeing a helpless little girl dying in the middle of the road and choosing to do nothing out of your own safety?

I would have dragged her off the road and called for help.

This is probably the most fucked up thing I've ever seen. I will never go to china and I will never trust a chinese born person in my life.

That was very hard to watch. I feel so very sorry for that little girl, i hope she is in a better place now.

What shocked me the most was that the driver who hit her didnt stop... instead he ran over her again. wtf is wrong with that guy.

It's certainly disgusting to watch, but what's more frightening to me are the YouTube commenters.

They're fucking racist idiots that keep making idiotic generalizations. Then again, it's YouTube comments and that's analogous to a cesspool of bigotry.

This is still what makes China a third world country, it's the laws that make the country so morally depraved.

Please don't blame the bystanders of not helping the toddler. In 2006 (I think), there was a case where a bystander helped a lady who got into an accident. Afterwards, the lady blamed the accident on the bystander for money. The judge who ruled the case found that the bystander had to be in the wrong, because why else would he help a stranger? After that case, no one dares help strangers out due to the fear of getting roped into that mess.

Unfortunately, China is in a position where there is no actual reform in sight.

I don't think that all 15 bystanders were experts on 2006 trial. Just saying. You think those young motherfuckers that work there even watch the news in between masturbating themselves? Doubtful.

It's actually a pretty well known thing that shaped the decision making of most Chinese people. Just look at this thread, it looked like all the Chinese TLers were aware of this.

Sin of omission...how the fuck could anyone walk past a child dying in the street and get on with their day.

I never thought I would say this, but I think 4chan actually did some good. That cesspool desensitized me to a degree I think. It's the only reason I didn't burst into tears.

As OP said, people in the past have been accused themselves by the people they try to help. There was one case that made it on the news where a man helped an elderly woman who fell down on the bus. He took her to the hospital and she then accused him of being the one who pushed her down. The judge found him guilty on the basis of "common sense" (sorry I can't elaborate more on this, it's just what i heard on the news a long time ago) and he had to pay the woman 45, 000 yuan.

There was supposedly another incident in the same area where a 75 year old man fell down on a bus and couldn't get back up. The other passengers wouldn't help him until he said that he fell down by himself. =/

Of course, this is absolutely no excuse not to help people who need it, especially a 2 year old who obviously needs immediate medical attention, but rulings like those really discourage people from helping others.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone.

Bit extreme, no?
I'm all for stereotyping but you gotta realise that they are only built on generalisations and some people (often in the minority but still) simply don't fit these.

We're not saying not to help them, but you gotta be cautious to help people in China, Their lives are not as important as your own.
