I'm Chinese and I firmly believe the morality of the Chinese culture is absolutely rotten. It's a real shame because if the Chinese would just shape up and learn from the West, society in China would be so much better

Its worth noting that this kind of tragedy makes it almost instantly to almost all the major news channels in China, causing, if nothing else, great public outcry and condemnation as an example of the problems in Chinese society.

Why is no one asking the big question?
Where the fuck were her parents?

I have been in China for 13 years. I can tell you that lots of people that work in those jobs are assholes that don't care for anything but money. it was better 10 years ago, but now everything is so related to capitalism, this shit happens.
Things similar (not THIS) happen else where though. I remember a show where an actor pretends to be robbed and no one helps. Same / similar situation.
As a Chinese, I'm especially sad and pissed to see this shit. it will spawn rages of anti-china material everywhere and make china look worse than the way it is already perceived by westernes. Jesus...

It is. It takes time to evolve, not just increase in GDP. In this regard I treat Russia the same way, yet it is at least a decade ahead of China in terms of civil development.

Where did you read about her condition? I wanna read it.

This is still what makes China a third world country, it's the laws that make the country so morally depraved.
Please don't blame the bystanders of not helping the toddler. In 2006 (I think), there was a case where a bystander helped a lady who got into an accident. Afterwards, the lady blamed the accident on the bystander for money. The judge who ruled the case found that the bystander had to be in the wrong, because why else would he help a stranger? After that case, no one dares help strangers out due to the fear of getting roped into that mess.
Unfortunately, China is in a position where there is no actual reform in sight.

China is a third world country with a first world government. Which is about the crappiest combination you can get.

China is not a third world country, as a whole
Very remote portions of the country are, however.

So no duty to rescue law (or whatever this is called) in China? In my country if you deliberately fail to provide assistance to a person in danger you can get 5 years of jail and a fine up to 75000€.

I wish I hadn't watched that. I can't stand seeing the poor girl's body being used as a speed-bump

This is disgusting, this video probably needs to be removed tbh. I've seen some fucked up shit on the internet but this made me feel sick.

I've heard it happen plenty of times and even seen it happen (I've usually gone to the rescue in those several occasions, and in one case I was even indicted as the perpetrator even when the victim vouched for me... it took above-godly tact and argumentation to get out of that pickle), despite the "Good Samaritan" law. People getting beat up, shot, hit by vehicles, you name it. The best I've seen or heard of is something calling an ambulance and then going along their way, by strangers that is (obviously a family member or good friend is going to be of some serious assistance).
Hell what am I saying? Just a couple months ago, a relative was at a gas station in the evening, got assaulted, tried to fight back and was shot a few times (and the thugs left), and people still came to the gas station and didn't do shit, the people/employees inside the store didn't do shit. She had to crawl her way into there and basically show them her condition and to call the police before anyone did anything.
Yep, sounds like he's making stuff up to make a point.
Quit being selfish man. This is not about China. This is about people being messed up.
Even I, now, knowing that I could get accused, would think once, twice, thrice about helping. I'm not even sure I would. Don't you all go thinking you would be a hero when a person claiming to be the child's mother is just waiting in the shadows to pounce on you for the money when you try to lend a hand.

This is so incredibly sad...
|
I believe that one of the bigger questions is "Where were her parents?"
While I do agree that this kind of behavior is disgusting, I'm not really sure what can be done to change Chinese society besides massive reform, something that for sure will not be done in the near future.

I don't think that all 15 bystanders were experts on 2006 trial. Just saying. You think those young motherfuckers that work there even watch the news in between masturbating themselves? Doubtful.
