Nobel Laureate physicist discussing with some semi-skeptics (also physicists) about this:

It's interesting that they haven't allowed measurements of the gamma spectrum because it would give away too much information about the reactions. But there is no problem handing out nickel powder before and after operation or to explain which isotopes that are reacting.

Of course there are tons of other things that suggests it's just an elaborate scam...

Thanks for the link, it's a very interesting read.

I guess all we can do is wait and see. If it really is a scam, it managed to fool some of the best minds out there, but on the other hand everything surrounding "cold fusion" has to be treated with caution, due to the numerous incidents in the past with the matter.

Reading about stories like this just get me so hopeful, if it turns out to be fake then Rossi will have successfully broken my heart. But, if this is the real deal, what exactly does it mean? What can we power with it, homes? Cars? Just how big of an impact could this kind of reactor make?

As far i have read from it, entire industry. Their first plan is to make a 1MW reactor. That's a lot of power.

It would be the biggest discovery since electricity. Some have even said fire. It's clean, cheap, abundant energy. Costs about 10 times less than the currently cheapest source (coal). We would no longer depend on oil (though still use it for plastics and some other things), which means no future wars about it. Nuclear fission plants would be shut down eventually. No more Fukushima/Chernobyl.

It could be used for heating, engines and electricity generation. We would probably go back to steam engines (imagine steam powered cars). Dennis Bushnell from NASA says even rockets could be improved through it, though I struggle to comprehend how (perhaps using its heat to improve efficiency of the conventional fuel).

The fuel consumption is extremely small. The world's energy demands could be met with 1% of the current worldwide nickel production. 4% of the earth's crust consists of nickel. There's enough fuel to last many thousand years.

Corporations who have invested into other energy sources would lose very large sums of money. It would spark another economic crisis.

Each house could have its own reactor.

Countries who possess natural oil and gas would no longer be in a position of power over those who don't.

One scary thing is the idea of humanity suddenly having abundant, cheap energy. It gives us more power to transform our society and planet, but this means we'll have to be more responsible as well to not damage ourselves and the planet.

If this is true, then make the reactor pylon shaped.

1 MW is quite a feat if they get this built, if its another scam though, eh... humanity.

Defkalion
Rossi has announced an agreement with the newly formed Greek company Defkalion Green Technologies as his first client.[70][71] According to Rossi, the agreement calls for delivery of a one megawatt heating plant, consisting of 300 reactors of 4 kW [16] connected in series and parallel. The plant which would supply heating for Defkalion's own purposes only, is supposed to be inaugurated in October 2011. [72]

Rossi says he will not be paid by Defkalion until the installation is delivered and works.[73] The company’s spokesman Symeon Tsalikoglou has confirmed the agreement.[74][75]

Defkalion has also been featured on national Greek television [76][77] and in the national business newspaper Ependitis.[78] According to Defkalion and Rossi the agreement gives exclusive rights for Defkalion to manufacture and sell the Energy Catalyzer throughout Greece.[74]

Until the October date rolls around, I'm going to remain optimistic.

There's a whole lot of things that would happen very quickly if this can be reliably be proven. Mostly, the thing people skip over, is it'd actually change the world's water supply, as desalination becomes very easy to do. That's actually the biggest impact. (We'd still use a lot of oil, and for a long time, it would just stop growing in demand in the same way)

And, while the way they're going about this still sets off *tons* of "fraud-o-meters", if I'd invented this tech and it worked, and I could constantly reproduce it, I'd sit on it until the patents came through. You're sitting on an idea worth probably 1/2 a Trillion USD to you, you kind of want that patent.

That's what I was thinking. If I knew my invention was so revolutionary, I'd sit on those patents until my invention is protected in every country in the world. Which looks exactly like what Rossi is doing.

Very interesting, I hadn't heard about this before. I am very skeptical as they wont give any detail of the inner working of the machine and remain pretty secretive about it.

This thing doesn't make sense to any known science and the details surrounding it are kind of fishy. I think people reading this shouldn't get too optimistic.

If it is a scam though I don't know what the plan is for these guys as they could probably face fraud charges...

I will definately stay tuned within the next year to see if a commercial version does see the light of day :3

Free energy: too good to be true.

Cold Fusion/LENR is a scam.

Hot fusion has been 30 years away for 50 years now. Don't hold your breath for cold fusion.

Read the freaking links of a Nobel prize winning physysict saying that he is completely positive that there reactors are real, and that arguing over weather or not they are a true LENR reaction is pointless because the energy is incredibly cheep and efficient either way.
