open up for that kind of treatment of criminals, and the criterea for when an individual is deserving of that kind of punishment will eventually get lowered to the point where we are chopping the hands of thieves and people are hanged, drawn and quatered for much less severe crimes than bombings and mass murder. The criterea for when someone is no longer considered human will be lowered whenever someone in a possition of power - whether it's the government of the mob forthing at the mouth - sees it fit.

If you are uninformed, then you should read the OP. But short story for what you are asking, the link is that it is the same man has done it. The same political party for which the youth movement is holding a camp at the island is the government. The shooter is right wing extremist who hates the leftist for which he is blaming everything that is wrong with the world, and the political party is the biggest party on the left side of the political space.

Not everyone is afraid of death and this person seems more than willing to sacrifice his life for his ideals. Besides, nobody should be killed in the name of the law. Justice is not revenge. Who's to say killing him would be just and right? There are places in the world where people are killed for less, all within the boundaries of the law. Does that make it all right? Who is supposed to draw the line?
I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it - he does, in my eyes. But no exceptions should be made.

I would prefer not to live in a government-sanctioned atmosphere of fear - but what do I know, I believe in rehabilitation and not punishment.

Capital punishment has been shown to have no preventive effect against crimes. He won't die a martyr now, that's the only difference.
