Considering that RoS has come out and the game is actually fairly playable with loot2.0/nomoreAH I was surprised that noone has really been posting about it on TL.

It's hidden for some people you have to manage visable subforums.

okay, just focus on the idea. is that really possible and feasible? it's some what like an orbiting wifi router

Then again, if Google can't do it because of regulatory problems, Facebook may also not be able to do it because of regulatory problems :p
(Google is already doing this, there's a trial in New Zealand, and supposedly they're expanding to the rest of the southern hemisphere's 40 deg latitude. So Facebook has a little bit of catchup to do http://www.google.com/loon/where/)

If an exam has 5 questions which will be randomly selected out of a pool of 10 questions (that we're given in advance), and I have to answer 2 of those 5, obviously preparing for 7 of them ensures that I'll be ready for anything, but what are my odds to be missing at least 1 question if I prepare for 5 or 6 questions instead of 7 and take a risk?
I used to know this relatively simple thing but now I forgot. Please help me to determine how lazy I can reasonably be. Cheers.

5 Questions
Missing 2 Question: 0.4% + Show Spoiler + Missing 1 Question: 10% + Show Spoiler +
4 Questions Missing 2 Questions: 2.3% + Show Spoiler + Missing 1 Question: 24% + Show Spoiler +(4 * (6 pick 4)) / (10 pick 5)
That was fun, give me more combinatorics please

Can someone please explain what LSB did step by step to me? Thanks.

On April 01 2014 07:41 3FFA wrote: Can someone please explain what LSB did step by step to me? Thanks. Lets say Djzapz want's to only study 5 questions, I first compiled a table of probabilities that he will not be able to answer at least 2 questions on the test.
He has a 0.4% chance of not being able to answer anything on the test. And a 10% chance of only being able to answer one question. I compiled the probabilities for 4 and 6 questions also.
Spoilered is a very brief explanation for how I arrived at the probability. Lets go back to the case where Djzapz only studies 5 questions.
There are 10 questions, lets label them questions "0123456789", Djzapz has studied questions "01234" (the order doesn't matter).
The probability of none of the questions appearing on the test is the probability that the test consists only of the questions "56789". This probability is the same as 1 / the number of combinations of questions possible on the test. In this case, the number of combinations of questions possible on the test is 10 Pick 5 = 252+ Show Spoiler +. And 1/252 = 0.4% (rounded).
Now lets try to calculate the probability of only one question he studied appearing on the test. I approached this by counting the number of possible tests in which he only studied one question and dividing it by the total number of tests. For him to only study one question on the test he needs one question out of "01234", and 4 questions out of "56789". This means there are 5 * (5 Pick 4) = 25. 25/252 = 10% (rounded)
If you need clarification I'm happy to help

I studied that when I took my Statistics class.
I forgot everything by now

Say I had an insurmountable amount of wealth acquired from private enterprise, enough to rival that of small countries. How feasible would it be to build Rapture?
|
Building an Underwater city should not be that hard, depending on depth of course, if you have enough money. Actually convincing people to live there would probably be a lot harder. And of course all of the SciFi stuff is not really viable.

The depth would be the major factor, really. Last I heard underwater construction was a pipe dream, hindered by (strong) water currents and other issues. The most feassible way to recreate rapture might be to build it above sea level and then let it sink to the ground.

I still think convincing a lot of people to live in what is basically a claustrophobic nightmare wrapped in a disatrous accident waiting to happen, for no good reason except that a lunatic wants to have an underwater city, would be a lot harder then actually building said claustrophobic nightmare.

If you pressurized the environment as you went down it would probably be quite feasible provided the structure wasn't prone to corrosion. Of course, as soon as the anything failed everyone would die, and living in a ridiculously high pressure environment full time may have adverse health effects.

what are the chances that I can get a job acting on the 5th season of game of thrones, factoring in the facts that I did theater for about 12 years, but don't have the appropriate accent for the show?

If a serial killer and rapist rapes then murders my daughter, what would be the punishment if i murder him? Would it be the same as other murderers or will this be a special case? like do i get 5-10 less years in prison? i wonder if the president would pardon me if the killer had thousands of victims. i don't have a daughter and i'm not after someone, i'm just curious.
|
I doubt that. If you get 'pardoned' then people would do the same thing you did since there's a precedent
