For example, take a look at the Chromecast (I haven't used it, but I'm trying to figure out how it works), it's able to cast your whole chrome tab, and supposedly it's also able to cast your desktop? So say I have a 1080p screen, a perfectly uncompressed signal would require: 1920*1080*60(fps)*24(bits/pixel) = 2.986 Gbps But lets say my Internet connection is 50Mbps, I can imagine that it can cast chrome tabs because say you're watching a Youtube video... Your computer will send a request of what video it is trying to watch, and your chromecast will open it up the link to the video, and play it itself, and thus a strong wifi signal is not required to transmit the signal. But simply mirroring your desktop (which is my ultimate goal), is not really feasible with my math, so how does the chrome cast do it? Which brings me to my next question, say I have a 4x4 1024QAM router and AP, for example: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Networking/RT-AC88U/ with some fairly high end router also capable of a theoretical 2167Mbps connection on the 5.0Ghz band... So practically lets say I can achieve speeds of 800-1000Mbps. A 720p 24fps 24bit stream should only require 531Mbps, so in theory I should be able to stream a 720p movie on any TV in my house with a USB 3.0 connection? As long as I have this router, and AP on my computer, and plug a USB AP onto my TV with adequate speeds, it should work? Or are the drivers incompatible with TV's? Essentially I want to understand how to transmit signals over wifi, and assuming my wifi has sufficient bandwidth, why I'd need something like a chromecast. Any additional info about miracast, widi, etc, just to understand how they work would be nice too. Thank you ![]()

A few years ago I was looking at Chromecast as a media streaming solution, if I remember correctly, when you are casting something, your device is telling the Chromecast to connect to the service directly rather than go through your device, meaning that the network traffic will remain the same (as if you were streaming to your device). When casting a tab, however you have network traffic going from the router to your device and then from your device to the router and then to the Chromecast, hence doubling your network traffic. This is my recollection by that's a few years old so things might have changed. Here a Tech Radar review which might help. Try posting in the Tech support forum and you might catch R1CH for some advice.

(also, he didn't answered the question; he tried to pull a reverse irony of sorts, from the future. even metaphorically taken, one digesting Fecalfeast's posts to improve his health ... it doesn't work. his replay can maybe pass for the groundbreaking discovery of the next generation or something; for it to be a revelation, people would need to east shit now and not realize how good it is for them(they'd do it because it's cool))
