How do left-handed gamers hold their hands when playing?

I have run across this problem with my girlfriend, who does not have a history of playing games, but is interested in doing so. The problem is, if he uses her left hand with the mouse and puts her right hand on WASD, she can't reach the same key in the same way that i would do. Do left-handed gamers use other keyboard setups? Or do they just deal with it and press Shift, Ctrl etc... with the thumb while using the pinky for all the keys on the right.

From memory I remember Naniwa using his right hand in a "mirror WASD" position (that is, his right hand was on the right of his keyboard and not on the left).

I just use a keyboard the same as a right-hander would. Probably makes me better at keyboard stuff and worse at mouse stuff.

So growing up in Canada, when you were a kid and went to someone else's birthday party, you got them a present. However when you leave, the birthday kid also generally gives you a small gift in the form of a loot bag. Does anyone know which parts of the world does this?

There's a similar thing in Sweden as well, where they have the kids fish for small bags of candy (that a parent attaches) with some make-do fishing rod over a blanket.

ah that's something I did in Norway as a kid as well, but rarely on birthdays- every May 17th (constitution day) though. kids birthdays was always everyone brings a present, normally either 50 crowns (like $7) or an item costing about that much. kid whose birthday it is supplies pizza for dinner and cake and or jelly and or icecream for dessert with soda for drinks. kids are screaming and playing and being happy and then everyone goes home like 3 hours later.

I think it's much the same nowadays although I suspect the norm might be 100 instead of 50 crowns cuz of inflation and some parents might insist on healthier food choices cuz people are fkn crazy.

the celebrated person is expected to serve others with some kind of age appropriate treat: sweets if it's a child's, alcohol if it's an adult's(so on and so forth).
it(the serving) can happen at school(in class), at work/office or in whatever social circles that persons frequents.
in religious communities, one can add a religious symbol there too.

the birthdaydude is reasonably required to make the gesture and not expect things(gifts) in return.

In Germany this is a pretty standard custom as well.

Yeah I always encountered that growing up in the US. Standard terminology is that you get the birthday girl/boy a "present" and for going to the party you get a "party favor." Typically, party favors are smallish gifts, often carried in bags, sometimes candy or sometimes a few smaller things like stocking stuffers.

Sorry for answering this a bit late..
For Quake 3 Arena I used to play with a IJKL setup like said before, and bound my weapon choices around those keys (U,O,P, H, you get the picture).
For LoL I didn't deviate from the standard, however, because I became so used to the 1,2,3,4,5,Q,W,E,R.
For shooters I do prefer the mirrored setup though. It's alot less strain and annoyance to deal with if you take a little time to set it up.
