Days are pretty obvious (time it takes the earth to rotate on its axis). Presumably weeks come from the fact that months lasted 28 days (lunar month), which corresponds to 4 weeks of 7 days (and isn't divisible by anything else particularly useful). The moon also has 4 distinct phases(waxing, waning, full, new moon) which would explain the split of a month into quarters. The day was divided into 12 hours back when they used sun dials. As in the day always has 12 hours by definition. That was before they measured proper hours. The day went to 24 hours when we were able to tell time during the night as well. At least that's what I remember of how this works.

The day went to 24 hours when we were able to tell time during the night as well. At least that's what I remember of how this works. I remember a bit more about Asimov's explanation now. The point is that the things that have been metricized require only a single standard measurement: it doesn't really matter how long a single unit is for distance, temperature, etc: pick something that makes sense and can be defined properly, and then just divide or multiply by 10 to have your metric system. However, time is screwed up, because there are two very natural measurements: days and years. There are 365.2something days in a year, and no metric system is going to change that. So because there is no way of "metricizing" this, there is always going to be a discontinuity: even if you divide your day neatly into 10 hours, and your year neatly into 10 months, you then have 36.52 days per month. Because you have that messy discontinuity in any case, you might as well leave the whole system messy and have the traditional setup.

Yes the screw gets in from that direction. A pencil to the left to give you some idea of dimensions. Yes IKEA and I usually have no troubles with these things but this freaks me out Sorry, spoilered because large pic Undo the support. Screw in. Redo the support.

What do you guys do? I can't focus on only one thing, my mind wanders too much. I play Chess or go in a chat. Sometimes I just rest, and other times I play Mine Craft or Portal or w/e game I'm into at that time.

I've always been curious The star represents the five pillars of Islam (Pilgrimage, Faith, Fasting, Charity and Prayer) on certain national flags, e.g., Tunisia. (At least according to an exchange student I know from there). I forget what the crescent means in that context. As for how the symbol as a whole came to represent Islam, I had to look that one up. Turns out that it was the flag of the Ottoman Empire at which point it started to become associated with the Islamic faith, which up until then had not had any single symbol.
