Especially since he pulls up quite far near the beginning. Most whammy bars can't pull up that far (or at all in some cases) without a decent sized cavity dug out (ie: floyd/edge style).

does anyone have their guitar plugged into their PC (focusrite usb interface with Reaper, using pc speakers not headphones) but they're still able to listen to their browser sound (ie twitch streams)? my twitch streams continue to play video but their audio stops when i tab back to Reaper. just throwing it out there i haven't had a proper look yet

tldr i wanna be able to play youtube tutorials/twitch streams whilst plugged my guitar into my pc

edit ok so i switched preferences from using asio4all to using WASAPI (windows 7/8/vista) (set linein device as my focusrite solo) and its working. the problem with this is supposed to be latency but it looks like i'm good!! (i tried it as waveout and latency is like 1 second there lol)

so now i can youtube + watch dota/trump + play guitar with it plugged in (and apparently no latency) yay. WITHOUT using headphones (i dont like using headphones)

download the native Scarlett focusrite driver and use asio.

As you found out asio4all will cause the other sounds to stop working.

what are they playing here ?

right hand side is an A chord with thumb over. i'm guessing most people dont ring out all strings when they do this?

left hand side looks like ... 5x665x ?

Looks and sounds like Dbm:

The thumb can either be to mute or to play the bass note a-la Hendrix; in this case you want to hit just those 3 notes.
The one on the right is just A Major:

You just need to hit the right strings with your right hand; of course you do need to mute but it's better if you hit the strings you don't want to right as little as possible.

omg this is so hard... it took me like 1 hour of playing this bit to the backing track before i realised that i was playing at the WRONG part of the backing track!!!....*facepalm*

im so bad at timings its taken me this long just to get these timings (and im far from finished with it) (let alone play them)

timings is sooo the hardest part imo. when its played slow you cant comprehend the timing that its supposed to be played with fast, but when its played fast your brain cant cope with listening to it at that speed ... thats how i am anyway, it takes me hours to just figure out what is actually the exact timing of each note being played T.T (yes i know quavers/semiquavers/etc and got the tab that displays them now which helped, its still fucks with me for some reason). fucking gaps between notes throw me off , i remember learning that miku solo there was like 1 bar that took me 2+ hours to figure out like 5 notes coz they had a weird timing/gaps and my brain just cudnt process it)

edit: uppate ... some progress i think.... cant do anymore it hurts too much again lul

ok i FINALLY figured out the timings jesus christ
i cant play it fast enough but holy shit i'm so glad i got the timings down its been hard

the mistake i made was using slow-played tutorial too much and not just listening to the full speed thing. which made me too confused and unable to understand how its actually supposed to be played in beat

also i just got super slim slinky strings, my god they are thin its like having 3 high e strings . i dont really like it coz im used to a lot more force back on my fingers but for practicing you cant even fucking feel the strings let alone your fingers starting to hurt so im gonna roll with it

OH YEAH also i realised you need to WIPE your strings down after playing otherwise they instantly go black and fucked overnight *goes to wipe his new strings*

i tried to do the weird 4 note power chord barre thing and with the super slinky (super light) strings its easy as shit lol

at least i think this is what you're supposed to do, its 4 notes 123x5x.

i'm gonna order some standard slinky this time, the super slinky are REALLY easy to play many things with but a think a bit harder for other things like muting (because they're so small its harder to mute some of them but possibly in the long run its better overall if you get used to them).

but also they aren't as satisfying to play with and sound a lot lighter (sounds and feels like i'm playing on frayed string without the amp on lol)

maybe regular slinky strings are the right ones. i think they are the strings that everyone uses. i will buy 1 pack and try them out. in the past i've been using heavy strings and struggled a LOT without realising how fucking easy light strings are by comparison after trying the super slinkies (i would def recommend them for beginners who have trouble and frustration practicing!!)

10's on an electric is the standard. The thicker you go the better the tone but the harder to play. When I worked at Guitar Center it used to drive me crazy when ppl wanted 10's for their acoustic or 8's for electric. I know it's hard and hurts your hand but you will build up tolerance and love yourself for doing so later down the line. I come from a family of musicians and when I wanted to learn guitar I was forced to learn on Acoustic, even though I just wanted to shred. Fast forward to my first electric guitar and I have never been so happy about being forced to do something. Always blew my mind that Stevie Ray Vaughan tried going as thick as 17's haha. The man must of had fingers of steel.

Want to add that 8's for electric do have there place I just don't recommend "learning" on them.

Strongly disagree with this, it's a misconception that's mostly because SRV used to play with 13s or something ridicolous like that. Billy Gibbons plays 7s, and Jimmy Page plays 7s or 8s just to name two. The tone of bigger strings is different but i wouldn't say it's strictly better. I switched to 9s from 10s about a year ago and i think i sound better because i feel like i can hit bends more precisely than i used to.

Sorry you are 100% right better was the wrong word to use. Thicker or richer would of been a "better" choice hah. Also I said they have there place if that is the tone you are going for, but it is still a much thinner tone. There is a reason you might choose jazz flat wound 11's to play jazz over 9's. Just like there are reasons to use 8's over 11's when playing Zeppelin.

I was more talking about what to learn on. I think it's better to build up the strength early else you might never be comfortable playing a thicker gauge string. This would be an issue if the next style of music you got into called for it in its sound. So the point of what I was trying to say is it feels great to go down in gauge but hard work to go up.

TLDR: I was talking about learning. 8's are perfectly fine its all preference. I just don't think you should learn on them.

learning on 11s might be OK if you have a teacher or big hands or whatever but if someone told me to try 9 gauge strings a year ago i would have progressed a thousand times more quickly . they are just so much easier to make and transition chords on , more accurate transitions with lower action , far easier to press, and you can practice for 5 hours straight without spending half that time in mild agony and having to have a whole day break afterwards .

there's no question about it for me , absolutely i would tell a beginner to use light strings if they are struggling because it made things worlds easier for me , and less frustrating because of that .

shit is different if you are a 13 year old kid who's dad or teacher is helping him along. if you aren't then you will need all the help you can get or you will spend a good year crying that you can't make a basic fucking chord transition that you've practiced every day for a year because you're using thick strings that make it harder than it should be for you

now i can look at these girl guitar players and realise how they are playing with such ease with girly hands . its coz they're (probably) using 9 gauge strings that let them brush over like a feather rather than half killing themselves just to do simple things with thicker strings

i will get some 10s to try tho coz i do prefer the thicker feel and tone but nothing beats being able to play with ease instead of frustration and wondering why things are so much harder than they should be after so much practice

Again only talking about learning guitar. Taking the "easy" way is not doing you justice in the long run. I understand you want instant gratification and you sound better when it's easier but imagine how easy it feels when you can do the same thing on 10's and switch to 9's or even 8's.

Back to the first post 10's standard for electric (to learn) and 12 for acoustic. You don't need to learn electric with 11's thats to much of a jump.

After years of learning on acoustic when I started to try electric it felt like nothing. The speed and easy I could play at blew my mind. It's like running with weights on.

It's not about what's easy. I also used to get asked on a monthly basis "Do you sell anything that will help build the callus on my fingers?". Talk about a facepalm moment. I'd answer "yeah, a guitar" and they would always reply "but it hurts my fingers". No fucking shit it hurts and it will keep hurting till you play long enough to build up a tolerance.
