Old ones still do That's always fun to see. But's true that it's raryfying. I liked that. Venom still does but they look silly on big stage (because they're 3).

Slayer ? Venom ? I'm old

I don't remember neither Ac/dc nor Iron Maiden doing that when i saw them.

Also as long as the music is not too loud, i think you're ok :D

They did. Way back. But wasn't as big as other bands

Don't think Maiden ever did it because they always had massive decors on stage (like rammstein)

Motorhead did it, Slayer a few band but that was back then.

EDIT : Damn picture is broken wait.
You can see there => http://www.solodallas.com/high-wattage-acdcs-marshall-amps-through-the-years/
It's a nice article too

Well that's a reasonable amount of marshalls. This one on the other hand isn't (and that's on a small stage too for their standards):

Haha Nice picture. I think the worst for this is Malmsteen. I remember seeing him with A LOT of cabinets on stage

I wonder how many aspiring shred guitarists bought marshals after seeing Yngwie. That's some good marketing there.

The wallpaper at the guitar center near me looks like that lol, just stacks on stacks of marshal cabs.

Not that i'm aware of. I post on mylespaul.com, but there's lots of trolling and dumb discussions about how a Les Paul Custom isn't in fact a Custom if it has a richlite fretboard (good luck finding ebony yo).

There's some interesting stuff though, so it's not too bad. Doesn't compare to TL of course.

TL is my go-to for even guitar discussion these days. Everywhere else is either too spammy, or I have to do some reading up before I even dare post at some of the other places.

I do have some good forums bookmarked on one of my other comps, might have a look later for you fine folks.

Anybody tried out an Axe FX 2 here?

Err... For bass TalkBass is pretty good. For guitar I don't know. Back in the day I used to post on a few very small brand-specific forums, but they are hard to get into (you either fit in or you don't).

If this analogy holds, if TalkBass is Team Liquid, one could say Ultimate Guitar is the Battle.net forums. If you dig deep there is some okay stuff but mostly a lot of 13 year olds bragging about Schecters and other metal guitars.

Any brand-specific forum typically, especially the smaller, more hardcore ones. I'm not going to name names but I used to be one of the people who helped others identify what guitars they bought. If people barged in and said wrong stuff we were not afraid of not just telling them they were wrong, but explaining in detail just how wrong they were, usually with cited sources to show them. It scared some people away but others used it as a learning experience. We could be harsh but it was necessary because we weren't about to let anyone ruin our community atmosphere. When I first started I was on the receiving end of that a couple times but I learned quickly enough.

Ben described it pretty well, that kind of-self induced reticence to post until sufficient lurking time has elapsed.

Will try talkbass. Sevenstring.org is apparently good according to my brother, sadly my PC is lacking Internet and only TL will I make the effort to browse on a mobile.

Well if someone barged into a thread in TL spouting crap there would also be people doing the same right? Mind giving me some details or examples please? I'm curious. You can PM me if you'd like

Why is it so difficult to transition from Fingerstyle guitar to playing electric?

I'm having loads of trouble to adjust to using a pick, let alone going from playing from the sheet to freestylin' it.
On the bright side, any legato-technique and especially bend is a piece of piss on the electric guitar, compared to my steel string acoustic.

I think what improves playing with a pick the most are string skipping exercises. It's quite the torture in the beginning, but after you get used to it you will have a much better feel and "orientation", and you'll improve faster than by simply playing scales up and down. (at least from my experience.)

No point starting with string skipping if you've never done alternate picking imo.

I haven't tried out an Axe FX 2 yet, but I have only ever heard good things about it and would like to get it sometime in the near future. The big thing about it (other than being able to produce just about any sound) is that it is very easy to use (much easier than the ultra or standard).

As for guitar forums, I just go to sevenstring.org
It's a great community but a good chunk of the community listens to metal (I listen to metal so that's no problem)

As per usual, godamn can't try before I would buy, which is a bit frustrating

Obviously it would be hard, because they are different techniques. People who only play with the pick can't play fingerstyle either. Remember how much you've practiced to get your fingerstyle techniques down?

And improvisation is hard because playing from the sheet is like reading out jokes from a website as opposed to coming up with your own ones, or someone memorizing essays for a language test as opposed to coming up with their own arguments. Takes time and practice since you're new to it, but the joy is totally worth it!

Good luck
