Isn't it also originially syrian ground that the kurdish are in control of now ? Now that the Kurds protect the north flank the Syrian army can wholly concentrate on pushing the islamists out of Aleppo. If Al-Qaeda in Syria and the Islamic Front get kicked out of Aleppo its over for them and the 'revolution', they become a non-factor. This will also free up troops that can be sent to close that ISIS salient in the eastern part of Aleppo. I read somewhere a week ago that they have 2-3000 troops in that area and it would be a huge blow to ISIS if they haven't evacuated them. Though now that the power plant has fallen they might not have a choice. edit: Its not about the Syrian army taking over the whole country, its about crippling/destroying ISIS and other Jihadist/non-secular groups so that a peace process can begin, who controls what doesn't matter as long as they are reasonable people.

But hope they get their first before the regime , or they might start clashing against each other . I mention a bit earlier in this thread the problem with the kurds is that they are far from united. The Kurdish forces that are moving in the north of Aleppo are called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and though Kurds make up the bulk of that army there are plenty of other groups too. The Arabs in the SDF are mostly locals and what was left of the FSA in Latakia and Aleppo that didn't want to be subordinates to or were kicked out by Al-Nusra and the Islamic front. There are also Christian militias and Assyrians within the SDF. So while on paper they can be called Kurds they are more like locals that banded together to defend themselves against the rebels, now that they have a land bridge to the Syrian forces it will be interesting to see their interaction. They are armed by both the US and Russia. Again, as I mentioned earlier, Kurds are not one big happy family. Some of them helped destabilize the country in the beginning, some collaborated with ISIS, some just want to stay a part of Syria and protect themselves from Jihadists and some want whatever they want. All of them are funded by foreigners and work for foreign interests. As for your tweet there is always some edgy kid with a keyboard pushing whatever they think should happen... and what they think should happen depends on their tribe. Many different groups of Kurds have switched sides many different times during this conflict, like when they stabbed Syrian forces in the back during the siege of Aleppo central prison, carrying out ethnic cleansing of Arabs and so on. When its all said and done weather the Kurds get their own country or region isn't up to Assad. He will do whatever Putin tells him to do. edit: So a new development on the Latakia front, seems the SAA is at the gates of Kinsabba, the last insurgent stronghold in Latakia province. Also its the last real obstacle on the way to Jisr-Al Sighour, losing that city along with Aleppo would mean the strategic defeat of al-Nusra and the Islamic front and the end of the rebellion (as a threat). Will post an update if they take it.

more like locals that banded together to defend themselves against the rebels well they banded together to fight against the regime at first.. the SDF was de facto created when the russians started bombing the FSA and they deemed wise to join the Kurds to survive.

The UN Security Council on Tuesday demanded that Turkey ceased its shelling of People's Protection Units (YPG) targets in Northern Syria. Venezuelan Ambassador Rafael Ramirez told reporters following a closed-door meeting that the 15 council members "expressed concern about the Turkish attacks in northern Syria." "All members of the Security Council agreed to ask Turkey to comply with international law," said Ramirez. The 15-member council discussed Turkey's military action at the request of Russia, which is waging an air war in Syria in support of Bashar Assad. Russian Deputy Ambassador Vladimir Safronkov said he had asked Turkey's allies at the council to "send the appropriate strong signal -- stop your inappropriate behavior in Syria."

The majority of Kurds in the Al-Hasakah Governorate are those who fled persecution from Turkey & Iran after failed attempts to rebel, therefore they are not indigenous there. Al-Qamishli (bet zalin) and Al-Hasakah were first mainly developed by the Assyrians and Armenians after fleeing massacres by muslims in Turkey, along with the insignificant amount non-kurds whom maybe existed there. The kurds in Kobani had migrated there around in the 19th century, pushing back the arabs tribes that had settled there. Afrin was settled by the Kurds by the 18th century. Therefore, the Kurds aren't really indigenous to Syria in those areas, besides through gradual movement from the north in the 18th-20th centuries. The Kurds have a tendency to claim other people's history as their own...

A Russian Air Force Tu-214R is about to land at Latakia, Syria The Tu-214R is a Russian ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance) aircraft. In other words, a quite advanced spyplane. As we have already explained here in the past, it is a special mission aircraft equipped with all-weather radar systems and electro optical sensors that produce photo-like imagery of a large parts of the ground: these images are then used to identify and map the position of the enemy forces, even if these are camouflaged or hidden. The aircraft is known to carry sensor packages to perform ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) and SIGINT (Signal Intelligence) missions: the antennae of the Tu-214R can intercept the signals emitted by the enemy systems (radars, aircraft, radios, combat vehicles, mobile phones etc) so as it can build the EOB (Electronic Order of Battle) of the enemy forces: where the enemy forces are operating, what kind of equipment they are using and, by eavesdropping into their radio/phone communications, what they are doing and what will be their next move. The aircraft is built by KAPO (Kazan Aircraft Production Association) and flown from the company’s airfield in Kazan.
