A buildup of hydrogen due to the meltdown of rods reacting with oxygen was a possible cause of the explosion. The video itself was very recent after the explosion so I believe the newscasters are just talking about how it's an explosion without really knowing what it is going on. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12307698 BBC Livestream talks about it every couple minutes and is switching between broadcasting the plant and the tsunami. Edit: Also, not sure if someone already mentioned this but (from the BBC) # 1023: Japanese authorities are extending the evacuation zone around the two Fukushima nuclear plants from 10km to 20km, according to local media. | ||

I don't think so, but I think the area will become uninhabitable for a long time probably? I don't know what the half life of cesium and iodine but that's probably the determining factor along with the actual amount -- and probably the weather. | ||
