Thanks for that link. It can all get a bit overwhelming at times. Cheered me up.

Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members. Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

I absolutely love that most of these Netizens believe they can learn from the Japanese and how they reacted to the earthquake. I think everyone can learn from it; some comments make allusion to the looting during Katrina, and I myself though about the riots when a hockey team win/loose. Made me : ( Thanks for that link. It can all get a bit overwhelming at times. Cheered me up. It's good to see positive reactions. I wish we could love each other in prosperous times as much (or even more?) as we do in hard times. Why so much hate in this world? I wish good luck and courage to the people who go trough this, and the people that work really hard for them.

GDP means nothing in front of natural disasters, its the culture and knowledge that make a civilization great. China has so much to learn from this.....

It's a good thing that recovery efforts are going well though. The resillience of the Japenese population in the face of this crisis is pretty amazing.

![]() Low area (cyclone) right (east) of Japan is heading to Kamchatka. The yesterday's Siberian Low splited in two: first went north-east (to Russian Chukotka), second went south-east (Russian Primorye and South Korea). This is going to be a problem, as in our nuke situation Low area will attract a potential cloud. Long story short, by the time the most possible movement of a potential cloud is west (S.Korea and Russian Primorye)

I hope it all goes well. Good luck from us! Also as anyone seen this? It seems a woman in Singapore has put her government to shame with the size of her donation towards Japanese quake relief efforts. Elaine Low presented a cheque for 1m Singaporean dollars ($780,000) - or double what the government gave - to Japan's ambassador, Yoichi Suzuki, on Wednesday, an official with the embassy told AFP. Her family runs an Indonesia-based coal mining business that imports equipment from Japan and also supplies coal to Japanese power plants. She said she wanted to do her bit to help out the Japanese affected by the disaster. How cool is that. Always did like Singaporeans (<3 km!).

There is supposed to be a press release happening soon. Prayers to the Japanese affected by this. [edit: not sure which report is right, it's always hard to tell. I hope the water is fine and CNN is wrong.]

Yes, they're probably referring to spent fuel rods in #3 and #4 as those are the major problems right now. The reactors are pretty much safe at this point, there are no leaks from the reactors. At this point the fuel rods in #4 are surrounded by water so they can focus on #3

If anything, it's good that the whole plant is going to be replaced, hopefully with a LFTR which is cheaper, so much safety, and 100% baller
