Now eyes will be on Syria, and especially Algeria which already had domestic troubles and is now surrounded by countries that have been changed by revolutions and the Arab Spring. It is the only military dictatorship left in North Africa now and they backed Gaddafi.

What the fuck happened? NATO armed the rebel forces with swat teams and started to bomb everything or w hat? The NATO bombings certainly helped but also supplies via other countries helped, as well as the training of the Rebels.

No, it was a stale mate for a long time, then rebels managed to take Brega and from there everything went downhill for gaddafi

... And when this happens, when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual: Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last! Good luck to Libya! The world is with you.

I don't know how much media attention that got in popular TV channels, but many forms of online media were reporting on it. Once they took Zawiya it seemed like everyone knew it was only a matter of time, though I'm not sure how many expected it to happen so quickly.

But Libya will be like Iraq and Afghanistan. Thousands of armed people each with different ideologies. I don't think they will go "Whelp, the shit is over. Let's give these weapons back".

I think anyone who is still betting on Gaddafi is living in a fantasy land, granted what comes after and if the NTC can retain control and work to stabilize and rebuild and maintain a government is one thing but to think Gaddafi will somehow make a comeback or even take part is ludicrous.

Seems like a stretch to compare a post-Gaddaffi Libya to Afghanistan circa the turn of century. The latter going through a major war against the Soviets, then Civil War, and then War against the US. Afghanistan has seen basically 30 years of unrest and War, compared to 40 years of relative stability (even if it was a Military dictatorship). At least there is some semblance of infrastructure in Libya after this war is over, something to build around. Afghanistan has been the center of fighting for so long people have been left with next to nothing. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Libyan politics but the lack of foreign occupying forces and the seemingly warm reception of the rebels in Tripoli makes any Afghan-style prolonged warfare unlikely.

Furthermore, where are these pro government forces? It seems like now that the power is broken there is no reason to fight for it any more. :\ I can't understand how this is anything like Afghanistan.
