First of, if I am in the wrong subforum please be gentle. I am torn between general forum, sports&games, SC2 general or BW general. I wished I wouldn´t have to guess.
In an absolute uninteresting turn of events I decided to build a battlecruiser in minecraft. I plan to do so in singleplayer, because I did not yet find an online server which I am satisfied with.(Most are overbuild or full of griefers).
If you are interested in what I did and what I have so far, open the spoiler. + Show Spoiler +
So I sat down and just thought: What can I use to draw with single pixels? I remembered from my childhood that ms-paint can zoom to a point where the screen is filled by 2 pixels. Well, not anymore, I suppose current hardware is about 20times better than back then. But thats not important. Important is what i came up with. Ignore my writing on it. The grey and black one is the final draft. I used my incredible visual judgement, which borders on being imba, and came with roughly a 200x140 surface area. Since I am most probably building this alone I am not inclined in making it much bigger.
What I am here to ask you fine fellows, is whether there are any helpful blueprints or any battlecruiser specific aspect ratios you know of?
What would be very very important for me right now is the ratio of height vs. length or breadth/width, this could make or break my current model at least partially. Any help will be appreciated.
That's a fun project! Not sure about blueprints, but here is the result of another guy attempting the same thing. Maybe there is something there that can help you.
I'd also like to make a battle cruiser. I'm thinking I'll make a isometric drawing of a BC, floating over a modern/futuristic city on CADD, and turn it in to a one of a kind T-shirt, or maybe jacket.
So if anyone has dimensions it would be great. Makes drawing 10x easier on CADD.
Well the thing is, my battlecruiser will be much much bigger than his^^ He can correct mistakes by eye, but i will not be able to see the other end of my battlecruiser. Wait a minute.......
Maybe I could make mine smaller and it would still be awesome. I will probably oogle a lot at this other work. I know for a fact, that I need roughly twice the cubes per layer (15.000) than he did for his whole ship(7.000).
Well I won´t make it out of iron, thats for sure. [edit] Just decided not to make it out of cobblestone either. Yeesh, I´m running out of options. Seems like smooth grey stone and glass will be it.[/edit]
I am so not going to make it 550 meters long. Thats more than twice of what I have already and I can´t see much more than 200 meters ingame.
I thought about the carrier, but it is just too twisted. Like the battlecruiser there are many different representations throughout Starcraft. But they are all bigger and more complex than battlecruisers. Well I guess I should get down to just building it, instead of talking about it.
A battlecruiser was stated as being two "leagues" long in StarCraft: Uprising. Most league measurements would have put the battlecruiser as over 9000m in length.
I hope im not dreailing the thread with this (I think it is kind of relevant) but does anybody know how big a battlecruiser is compared to the Enterprise? Also I wonder which ship has the most destructive weapons?
The original USS Enterprise was 289 meters in length, though the USS Enterprise in the 2009 Star Trek film was increased to 725m to allow for better scaling and a more detailed model.
At any rate, if the Starcraft: Uprising figure is accurate, the Battlecruiser dwarfs the Enterprise.
I don´t think 9000m is realistic. I mean, if it was 9km in length then it would be at least 4.5km in breadth. It would take too many resources and personnel to have more than 1 battlecruiser per planet. It would take more to build a battlecruiser than to put a colony on a planet.
I just googled for star destroyers of star wars. They are about a kilometer in length. I can´t comprehend how battlecruisers could be 9 times longer than a wedgelike ship . I just calculatored some numbers and my guesstimate would be 135 cubic kilometers give or take a dozen. Thats 135 billion tons of stuff, if the stuff has roughly the weight of water. No matter what you compare it to, its ridiculously much.
I am already intimidated by 200x140 with a yet unknown height. <.<
The scale, or even the units don't matter. As long as the ratio is correct it can be scaled from a 9k by 4.5 km drawing to be able to fit on a T-shirt quite easily.
The idea about taking a screen shot in the map editor seems good. I think I'll try that. It will be a few before I start, since I'm a bit busy right now, if someone does it before me post your dimensions it would be appreciate.
On the teamliquid Minecraft server (which is very well moderated and grief-free btw) there used to be a pretty cool battlecruiser before the server was reset.
It was not 1:1 scale though.
A marine is about 2 meters tall, I would say that a battlecruiser is about 10 times the size of a marine, thus, the battlecruiser is 20 meters long.

Bold part depends a lot on how wide the insides are.
Italic part, well iirc in lore there are really few battleruisesr and they are MUCH stronger than ingame. Don't forget that they have much more billions of people than us and higher tech, building bigger stuff is easier with better tech (ex: lighter yet stronger materials, better automated machinery)

In an age where the average factory can fly, why wouldn't you build literal flying fortresses?
Ok, I give I do not have any idea about the lore of starcraft since that would most likely require me to read the novels. Which I won´t because last time I checked novels were written by novelists rather than people who created the sc universe. I simply assumed that there was like a fleet of battlecruisers. Since Raynor has his own for example. Nevermind.
Just so you know, I plan to make a more bw style battlecruiser, because I think it is more iconic. The sc2 model is cool and all, but it looks stocky or chunky or how you call it. Also ingame models and promo art differ rather wildly in detail. Especially the spears on the wings and the wings themselves go from quarter of the length to half of the length of the entire cruiser haphazardly.
That´s why I opened this thread I am confused and clueless Thanks for the help so far.
re: your mspaint pixel concern you can zoom in 10x in mspaint, which is plenty to distinguish individual pixels. turn on the grid as well. i used that to plan my hotel layout and sphere dome
