From the article,

"US nuclear scientist Dr Sig Hecker has confirmed Jane's reports of activity at Yongbyon Nuclear Complex in North Korea and revealed that a state-of-the-art uranium enrichment plant is in operation at the site."

"Jane" is referring to the satellite, it seems.

Just to let you guys know. U.S. has carriers on the way to korea to set up all around korea. United nations advised against supposedly. S korea also said something along the lines of there is only one way to stop further provocations from n korea. Source is cnn just now. The fleet on the way across the ocean now looks quiet intimidating. U.S. aslo said it is starting war drills with S korea on arrival. They showed videos of the island and it was pretty bad.

On another note what does N korea hope to gain by threatening nuclear war if provoked? 1st what is provoked exactly? Secondly what recourse of action would they expect when make such hefty claims. I'm actually worried for S korea more then anything for obvious reasons. From what I'm hearing S korea really has no chance against N korea and U.S. will never let a country be taken by a communist country. The north korean dictator comes off as a total phyco also.

State Department Spokesman P.J. Crowley told reporters the United States is engaged in wide-ranging diplomacy with China and others in the aftermath of the artillery clash, and intends to raise the matter directly with North Korea in the armistice framework.

The spokesman rejected North Korea's claim it acted in self defense after South Korean shelling in a military exercise. He said North Korea attacked the South Korean island hours after the routine exercise ended, in an obviously premeditated act, but that there has been no sign of a broader aggressive move by the North.

"This was in our view a one-off, premeditated act," said Crowley. "Without getting into intelligence matters, we don't see that North Korea is preparing for an extended military confrontation. That's what makes it not a war. It is a violation of the armistice. Among other things, we will have a conversation with North Korean general officers and make clear that this is a violation of the armistice."

Not sure why the dude would reject the fact that it was a retaliation simply because it took a few hours to happen...

I wonder what would happen if every so often SK just started bombing NK randomly for an hour.
You know. Just to do it cause they can. Its not a prelude to war.. just a little bombing and a little civilian killing. why would that cause a war.

This was a direct attack on SK sovereignty. Hopefully our leaders are mature enough to ignore it, but I don't know what stops this from being a couple hundred civilian deaths next time.. and perhaps a couple thousand after that.

If we do go to war, hopefully we can start it off by obliterating NK airstrips and potential nuclear capabilities. I don't see how it ends, though.

Under no circumstances are U.S. citizens threatened by N korea nuclear capabilties. N korea cannot strike the U.S. with any missle regardless of what they say. Bill Clinton gave china the technology to hit west coast though in sort of a peace treaty of sorts. China will distance them selves from N korea so fast it will be funny though if the U.S. gets into it. China does own like half our economy almost now lol so we are by far the most important country to china even though our counrty's governments are so opposite. I read that post earlier in the thread about N Korea war plans with america and wow that has a whole lot of bark don't know if they could deliver on the bite though. There seems to be a lot of opinion and america and the korean and vietnam wars but make no mistake those wars were"lost" and drawn out just like the iraq thing going on now. America try's to handle things with as little loss of life as possible but when ever they are attacked the results are absolutly terrible for the offenders. If korea really attacked a carrier squad or guam, okinawa, or S korea U.S. military they will be in a lot of trouble and all alone. The only thing going for N korea is they lack the ability to actually attack U.S. counrty its self i don't have to tip toe around saying what would happen if they tryed to nuke west coast.

Jane's is not the satellite:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane's

"Jane's Information Group (often referred to as Jane's) is a publishing company specialising in transportation and military topics..."

They were once the only private group with an office at the pentagon; I dunno if that is true anymore. They do private intelligence stuff, kind of like Stratfor. You may remember them from the kickass computer game series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane's_Combat_Simulations

Fighters Anthology was sooooooo good I swear that game had at least 200 planes including Air Force One. My friend and I used to fly around with the joystick and try to eject and land on stuff. Super fun. Longbow series was bamf, too.

Sarah Palin is now officially the dumbest politician in history to ever have been mentioned in news more than 2 times, and always about her lack of knowledge. I mean seriously? When asked to elaborate on what she would do as president about the Korean situation, she managed to say that the US have to support their NORTH korean allie. She had to be corrected by the radio host, and seemed oblivious about the serious "mistake". Please all american voters in here.. if she gets elected, the human race will cry so resonantly loud that the earth will be destroyed by the vibrations. I know Terminator is a cool trilogy and all, but that's not enough to be given power. Trust me..the GSL will be postponed indefinatly after that crusade;) She probably has a hockey puck with an NRA logo on it, saying "God liberates" on the back, over her fireplace.

I'm a Palin hater myself, but that's a pretty honest mistake (Obama said we have 57 states in a speech one time, it happens to everyone). That said, I really really hate Sarah Palin and she needs to stay the hell in Alaska.

Haha n1. I actually heard there was a bank robbery on one of those ships many years ago, and they never found the robbers..that's pretty hard core. It's a small town ready to kill.

Sarah Palin probably thinks Pyonyang is ping pong in chinese or something. It blows my mind that she almost got to be the president of the USA and STILL has the chance. I will never understand you america.

Well yeah, honest mistakes happen all the time..but when it comes to Palin it's a 50/50 chance she just doesn't know..no joking intended. Obama on the other hand is the smartest president the US has ever had. The HOPE slogan is dead on. He was left a mess, and gets the heat for it. A traveled man with a lot of knowledge about the stuff that matters, communication skills, and sees the world as a whole..not just "national security" to please corps. The US is very divided on education, and some educated people use uneducated people by striking fear about the unknown, and thereby gets votes for the stuff they actually care about, money.. I mean..Bush preaches creationism..that's pretty far fetched as a president. I think the whole God thing is very over due in politics.. The US is the most secular countrey in the world in reality. You can litterally go to china by taxi..that's pretty cool Everything there really is to love about the US is underminded by the republicans imho.
