I know they're pretty cheap, but I have a good set of speakers and these would be only for when people go to bed/going to lans. They look bitchin' Orca is a green carcharias without a microphone? I have the carcharias and they are the worst ripoff ever. They sound like trash, the cable twists way too much, they aren't comfortable because the cups are too small and stiff so they don't rest snugly on the head. It's also annoying that the rails never keep the cups at the same spot. You have to readjust every time you put them on. They're open headphones but they have zero sound stage. You lose the bass pressure and noise isolation of closed headphones but you don't get the airy and spacious presentation of open headphones. It's a disastrous headphone built by people who don't care about headphones and just want to make a quick buck on the back of impressionable "gamers". I can't bring myself to try razer mice because of their headphone line. I didn't talk about it yet because it won't impact the Orca as they don't have the boom mic but there is a design flaw where the sound that plays in the headphones will be leaked into the microphone signal. I don't know if the sound leaks within the wiring, if the microphone arm's hollowness makes the sound travel through it or because they leak simply by virtue of being open headphones but they cannot be used in a situation where noise is an issue (ie: Skype or anything without a push-to-talk feature) A company that laughs in the face of its costumers like that... especially one that prices itself as a premium brand, I just wish they would go away.

This would involve rewiring the driver connection, then wiring the stereo mic jack, combining the grounds, then splitting the 4 conductor into two 3.5mm jacks at the terminal end I am completely inexperienced and do not know if this is possible. If it isn't, I'll just run two 2 conductor cables instead. Thanks! I'm not understanding what it is you want to wire up. Maybe a diagram is in order? How many pins is the microphone, anyway (isn't it just a single channel so not stereo)? I'm not sure how consumer mics are wired and operated normally, but I think you're not going to want to share a ground between the audio output and inputs. There may or may not be enough connections. Even then, you may end up with some crosstalk, depending on the wiring.

![]() Haggled it down to 130 from 170 (price match and such.) At first was kinda hesitant to buy studio monitors, but I had heard that even though the ATH-A700's are great "all-arounders" for audiophiles, they were not amazing in the bass area. I've been getting into dubstep more so the bass is a big deal to me. What I really wanted was something pretty cheap ($100-$150), but is capable of performing dubstep, but also able to play metal perfectly with the right EQ settings. And they do that beautifully. I absolutely love them, There's very little doubt in my mind they're the best you can buy under $150. Then again, I'm a just a budding Audiophile, I'm by no means an expert on the subject. If fact, if anything sounds stupid/not correct in my post and you know the correct terms please let me know. I'll just use the adjectives I sort of know. I only compared them to a few others including: ATH-700 ATH-700 OA Dynamic ATH-500 ATH-M45 Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Sennheiser HD 558 Sennheiser HD 555 Where the ATH-M50s consistently win is bass, Dubstep plays absolutely fucking phenomenal with a very basic Hi-Low Booster EQ. While all the others I listed have great resonance (except maybe the 555), they're all missing the powerful punch or "thud" of the M50s. The difference between the A700's or even the M45's is pretty significant. The mids are amazing for metal when the bass is EQ'd down a bit, really really crunchy which is what I'm looking for in metal. My only tiny complaint about these headphones would probably be that the mids get just a little dampened during heavy bassdrops in Dubstep I guess. It really is hardly noticeable since the focus is the Bass and Beat at those parts anyway. There seems to be an idea online that the M-series lacks the treble of others in it's price range, but I haven't really experienced that myself. In almost all electronic genres I listen to the treble sits above, separate and super clean, the way I assume good sound seperation is supposed to sound like. Same experience with metal. 100% satisfied with my purchase, and I'm glad I spent the little bit more for these over the A700's, M45's, or HD280 Pro's Which were my three closest choices. (PS If you think you've heard Excision, Skrillex, or Zeds Dead without these headphones or better, you probably haven't. )

only complaint about the 280's would be how excessively long the cord is, as for the cx400s, it seems like any time i touch the wire the sound goes straight to my ears (KKKKKkkkk, wwooooaaakk)

You could get beyerdynamic DT-770s. That way the rage would break something else instead of your headphones. Like a family member's face or your monitor. I was originally going to invest in a pair of Orcas as a cheap, on-the-go headset to replace my broken Siberias. Mostly, the urgency lies in having them before my local LAN as speakers are not allowed. I have a 75$ gift card at futureshop that I'd like to use, but their collection seems lackluster at best. The shure 840s caught my eye, however. They are kinda pricey, at 199$, but they have GLOWING reviews. Does anyone have any experience with these? Could I use them as an every-day headset or are they too fragile? And more importantly, does anyone have a website that is cheaper than 199$ so I can price-match them? Thanks a lot. ![]()

Thanks a lot. ![]() These are quality headphones. The build is very good and I would expect them to last 10-20 years unless subject to unreasonable stress. They're really rugged and meant for studio use. I owned both for a bit and yeah, these take a massive dump on the Orcas no question about that. Sadly $199 is the going rate in Canada for these. But head-fi.org has a nice used section that I like to buy from. You could probably get them there for closer to $100 if that works for you, saves your gift card for a game and a movie or something.

Thanks a lot. ![]() Got the Shure 440 a couple of weeks ago (had the same "problem" as you, a gift card and a limited product choice, followed the advice of a fellow TL-er), love them a lot, and the 840 are supposed to be even better and have corrected their little sister's tiny imperfections so I'd go for it eyes closed. 2 things : a) studio headphones are supposedly not for everyone, some think Shure's are a bit dull/not colored enough whereas others praise this as balance - a very subjective thing I guess. b)I think I remember having read that the 840 need an amp to give their full potential (to be verified)

Also, I'm not a big fan of "gaming" headsets, I'd prefer something that looks more like a DJ headset than an oversized piece of computer hardware hanging off the side of your head. Would love something that looks like this: ![]() or this ![]() Actually, I really like the look of those Nixon MasterBlasters. Anyone know what sort of sound quality they have?
