Budget is around the $100 mark, but I'm flexible as I'm pretty ignorant of what you get for that kind of money. Is there any merit in trying to get a reasonable pair of headphones+mic for that pricerange, or am I better off just getting another crappy gaming headset? I'm no audiophile but I listen to music regularly in addition to games, usually mainstream rock but also a lot of movie soundtracks etc. I need to be intelligible over VoiP but I'm not recording. I was looking at something like a pair of HD429s or HD439s, or AKG 240s, which all sit around $100 here depending on sales. I do know the ATH-M50 is highly regarded, but that's $150+ in Aus and is slightly off the top of my pricerange. For the mic I was looking at a clip-on Zalman ZM-MIC 1, which I can get for peanuts if it will do the job. Any suggestions/thoughts? Do the brands like Senn/AKG etc actually offer any advantage in their cheap models?

As for your other question, I personally don't like the cheap stuff from Sennheiser. I have not auditioned any of AKG's mainstream offerings.

![]() (Sorry, Nexus 4 camera is shite and can't really focus..) I have the same problem (albeit very much smaller) on the other side of the headband, but that part is laying on the desk so you can't see. Should I be worried? I hope someone can help me! Thanks in advance.

I think it's this one: http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone-Microphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421875227&sr=8-1&keywords=zalman mic&pebp=1421875235637&peasin=B00029MTMQ

Thanks in advance. I don't have any suggestions for dealing with it, but I think it'll probably be fine. How did it even start? The E10K finally came in and I can use my 598s at long last. They are the most comfortable pair of headphones I own (vs AD700s/M50s) and I like the sound so far. Besides the slight bass increase I haven't noticed too much difference between them and the AD700s, but time will tell. The main reason for the purchase is the detachable cable, since I'm too technically-impaired to mod my AD700s and the cord is getting worryingly stiff.

Currently tossing up between an ATH-M30x, AKG 240 and the Logitech UE6000 for the headphones, and probably leaning towards the logitech. Prices seem really unpredictable over here, but those end up all about the same. The M30x is actually the most expensive for some reason. From what I've heard the AKG is the superior product, but would probably want some form of amp which I obviously don't have. The UE6000 seems unexpectedly good for its price. Anyone have experience with any of those?

Thanks in advance. You can buy replacement parts from Sennheiser. http://en-us.sennheiser.com/service-support-part-finder Seems like there are two different hd598: West hd598 and East hd598. Looks pretty cheap, $6.21 for the headband padding. Been listening to the HD800 for several months now, and decided to go back and listen to the HD650. I forgot how fun the HD650 was, and still is. The HD800 is technically superior, but the HD650 is so relaxing. Also, just bought the TH900, should be clean and fun at the same time.

I want to try them now, though. Also holy wow replacement earpads are surprisingly expensive for the 598s. $27.69 wow.

Thanks in advance. You should just contact Sennheiser directly if it's still under warranty (2 years I believe).

I gotta get off my butt and mod my HD800. The peak in the highs is really limiting my listening time on them. Right now my HD650 and HD800 split time evenly pretty much.

Ah now I know why you're getting the TH900, that massdrop deal... YEP ![]() I've been trying to get the TH900 from massdrop for about a year now, but was always too late to the party. They only sell the headphone in very short supply, usually 5-15 units per drop. Funny that you mentioned modding the HD800. I just re-read the anax mod Tyll wrote. You should check it out if you haven't. He went through a lot of different materials and determined which was best, with data to back it all up. As for the sound, the high on the HD800 doesn't really bother me. It is the lack of body and weight in the low end that make the HD800 a little boring. However, the anax mod should bring the low end up a few db and tame the high a bit without losing the detail and resolution. You can check if your HD800 has the 6K treble peak most HD800 has: http://en-de.sennheiser.com/service-support-services-register-your-product Just enter the info and Sennheiser will send you a frequency response chart of your HD800. I still think the HE500 has the best overall sound. Oh btw, anyone has any thought on the new HiFi Man HE1000?
