Hello Everybody! I am not necessarily a headfone enthusiast but I have searched long for a good pair of headfones. Ultimately my search has thus far in ultimate failure, due to the fact that I'm too fucking hardcore and I always rip my wires out of my headphones when I'm headbanging like a big ol' oblivious loser on the bus. I soon discovered the world of wireless headphones, but without any expertise in the subject I am quite afraid to venture deep in to the realm of, " oh fuck i spent 230 $ on these headphones and now they're blown out because they suck balls and you can't use them at max volume", I couldn't find anything on wireless stuff except for a question about where to find Wireless headphones on page 15 but he got snubbed pretty hard.

If anyone knows anything about good WIRELESS headphones I'd be very appreciative, as I have not purchased a single wireless model to date. I was thinking of getting these iLuvs in futureshab but I decided not to since I have the, " oh fuck i spent 230 $ on these headphones and now they're blown out because they suck balls and you can't use them at max volume", neurosis.

Well I dont know much about Wireless Headphones but they are inferior to the ones with cable in terms of quality/lag etc.

I think one of the best Wireless nowadays are the Sennheiser RS 170 / 180

Review:

Edit: Oh now I get it youre looking for IEMs hmm no Idea about them :D

They are comfortable, and I really like them. Just try not to get a big head when you buy them, like most people.

With all new headphones I think you kind of have to stay away from sites like Head-fi and such, or you will experience buyers remorse from people who think they need a special amp, or people who think another headphone is better, or whatever.... Just get the phones you want and enjoy them. Otherwise you'll turn into one of those people who doesn't really remember what music is.

Dont forget that you need an amp for these Headphones you really do. Unless you have a soundcard like the asus xonar essense stx.

So if you get them for x-mas you will still have to spend min ~180$ for a dac/amp combo like the audinst mx-1 ^^. (Its the best device for its price)

For the 650 They are great Headphones the difference with non-amp and amped is huge. :o There are dozens reviews of them and everyone agrees that theyre great.

Hmm my friend has been using an Ultrasone (I forgot which one, it was around $170 new) for a year and a half, and he loves it. I remember him saying that he couldn't wear them for too long periods of time, but around 2 hours or so was fine. You could look into those. Check out some ATH and Beyerdynamics if you want too. I know the ATH-M50 is very very good, but it's out of your price range...

Just bought an AD700 from Newegg. Psyched~~

I've been using really cheap headphones forever. I bought a $50 Skullcandy set a year ago which was really mediocre, and the wire snapped in half after a VERY light tug. Also had the Razer Baracuddas before that, absolutely awful. My game awareness in CS / CSS actually went down after using them, and the sound quality was terrible.

Thanks for some great insight on options in this thread sincerely helped me with my choice. Right now I'm thinking of picking up the Astro A-40 with MixAmp, but my concern is will this Mixamp over ride my XFI Titanium Soundcard? If so is this a bad option for someone with a decent soundcard? Would hate for it to go to waste, but I guess even if I get a Wireless headset like Logitech G930 would also not use my soundcard? Tried to get some support from Logitech and Astro and wasn't very helpful at all, so I ask here since people are always willing to pass on their knowledge. Thanks for the assistance with this

P.S Only reason I'm limiting myself to these options is due to fact I have few hundred dollars in Dell account so I can only choose from options at http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/category.aspx?c=us&category_id=7315&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=anav&sort=-price

Got my Yuin PK2 in the mail couple days ago and my Sony MDR-7506 today

Oh wow I love them both
The Yuin looks like one of those free earbuds you get from airplanes but they sound so good
Great clarity especially in the midrange, which my JVC HA-RX900 lacked in
They have punchy controlled bass which I find plenty, although some people say they lack in bass
However, I find it is kind of muddied in the lower midrange listening to some lower piano songs
Pop music is so much fun to listen to on these things
Not as accurate and clean as the Sony MDR-7506 I think but gives a warm coloration that makes music fun to listen to :>

And the Sony MDR-7506
Really crisp and clean everywhere
Great detail in everything I hear :>
Less bass, which is what I prefer
My other can was pretty bass heavy
Still I think it has plenty of punchy bass
Need to listen to it some more~
Oh and also, it folds up really nicely

Ugh... I think I picked up a really expensive hobby...
Need to stop buying haha

I'm satisfied with what I have right now so~

Haha I feel you. I'm satisfied with my headphones and IEMs now, but reading these threads and checking stuff out on amazon or looking at deals/coupons really pushes my temptations to buy more. Soon, I'll break and buy something~

Haha, I need more money~
Kind of wanted the ATH M50 but it was kind of expensive
But I find it really cool that each headphone has different sound signatures and I want to try them all :>

I did get my MDR-7506 at a discount price at Guitar Center, because the pad had a little rip on it and I asked if I could get a discount
10% off~
Cost the same as I would have bought it online lol

Weird this thread just popped up and I saw the DT990s I bought last week on the first page. I was using audio technica ath-m50's for about two years prior, but I don't need a closed design any more (no roommate) and I found their clamp force fatiguing after a couple hours. The 32ohm version works just fine out of my Soundblaster X-Fi but this NuForce Icon uDAC-2 has been tempting me.

I'd recommend the Audio-GD Sparrow. Wasn't a fan of the first uDAC. Don't think it would well with the DT990 either.

I ended up getting a Asus Xonar Essence STX to replace my X-Fi Music, instead of a dedicated DAC/Amp. I really like the Dolby Headphone setting for FPS gaming and movies, and have been having fun doing op-amp swapping to find my perfect audio signature for music. So far the OPA op-amps have been my favorites, OP2137 at the moment. I have tried 49720NA, LT1358 and LT1057, and OPA2137.

Dedicated amplifiers are usually quite a bit better than sound cards. And don't be fooled, most headphones will sound better with an amplifier. But the differences are most of the time marginally and preferential. For the most part, if you like how they sound now, you don't need an amplifier. The headphones are 90% of the sound basically. The other 10% is the amplifier.

Only when you get very high up do you really need an amplifier. If you don't like how a headphone sound, it's either preference, or it's the amplifier. If you don't like the sound, it's your preferences. If it's really muddy sound on a good pair of headphones, it's the amplifier.

Just a warning, get in hi-fi, find something you like, buy it, leave and never return. You'll be glad. So will your wallet.

This is assuming we're not talking about Skullcandy, or Wesc, etc... and you're using high quality files on the headphones, not 60kbps for example.
There is no one like you in the universe.

Just like when I researched buying a car for 6 months straight and didn't look at a single car mag or website for the next five years :-). I am really happy with the Asus Xonar as a DAC/AMP. I don't want to know what a $500 tube amp sounds like, because then I might have to buy one and honestly it can't make a $500 difference.

Hey guys, I've been using a pair of Astro a40's for a few years now since I've been a big console gamer up till I got in the SC2 beta. I was wondering what the "best" headphones out there are now a days and if they are worth the money to upgrade to.

Thanks!

The best headphones out there huh. I can name a few that are contending.

Stax SR007 O2
Audez'e LCD2
Yamaha YH-1000
Sony R10
beyerdynamic T1
Sennheiser HD800
Sennheiser HE90
AKG K1000

Just the obvious super expensive or rare headphones. I can tell you they're all worth over $1000 but I can't tell you if they're worth it. Something you have to find out for yourself.

lol I think my Audio-GD came with an OP2137. It's pretty decent. When I finally let my discrete opamp burn in there was no turning back though. Talking about OPA Earth here.

they probably do not count as enthusiast headphones, but they are 5.1 with 4 drivers in each ear. i think they retail between 80-100 dollars so they weren't so hard on the wallet. have never tried senn or any high grade audio headphones so i am unsure of what would be a high level headset but i'm pretty happy with the hpx.

These were my last pair, and the biggest problem is the long cord [which my chair ruined] and the mic. The mic for me got broken on the catch or w/e keeps it in, so it would never stay in anymore.

Just got a new pair of AKG K81DJ's and HOOOOLEEEE SHIIIIIIIIIIT these are so cool. I put them on and immediately can barely hear anything. I don't seem to feel the clamping that other people complain about, and the bass/lows on this are ridiculous.

yea the chord is obnoxious, and my mic crapped out about a week ago =\ ordered some AD700s should be in tomorrow hopefully those are an improvement of some sort.
