But then you don't have anything to hold it together for you and need to find yet another container to put the stuff in, also, doesn't it keep the inner leaves fresher for longer if you have it all together? (I'm basing this on nothing but my own thoughts)
I believe the best way to keep it fresh is to cut a small slice off the end of the stem and place the lettuce stem-down in some moist foil (just add a bit of water) in your fridge.
Butchering it like that won't keep it fresh, but it does sound like an interesting way to save time. Although I would normally use scissors if I were to eat/prepare the entire thing in one go. Speaking of scissors, they are so cool. You can cut all your food with them.

I'm not sure that running with less cushioning will help your recovery from injuries as much as it will prevent them from happening in the future. If your knee is bugging you, I suggest you seek medical attention.
Also, the argument against padding is basically this: padding makes your feet more comfortable in unergonomic positions. (The most common example is making your stride too long.) This lets you run with bad form and not feel the discomfort your body would otherwise express until some more serious threshold is crossed and you suffer an injury. Cushioning can also place less stress on certain supportive muscles, which causes them to weaken and further increasing the likelihood of injury. Also, if you've been running with heavily padded shoes for all of your life, you'll need to made a very gradual transition or you may hurt yourself quite seriously.

If they're offering free ketchup, take some free ketchup. If they're not, you're basically saying it's ok to steal it and/or beg for it rather than pay 25 cents? How are you not just being a cheap bastard at this point?
If you think it's a bad business practice to charge for sauce, just go somewhere else instead of being cheap.

Billion dollar corporation McDonald's is trying to make even more of a profit by charging people for a packet of sauce and you're getting on his case? Would you advocate that they also start charging a fee to use their washrooms? That's toilet paper and water consumption right there too!

Let's not even bother mentioning their marketing tactics to get people there in the first place.
Going back to your whole principle thing of just coughing up the change, the people that use your logic are also people that are usually against things like progressive taxes or affirmative action. It's sickening really, because as opposed to letting the poorer party get off the hook with all the other shit they have to deal with, you want things to be equal and fair all across the spectrum. In this case, 25 cents for McDonald's is nothing but for a student who has no car to get groceries, or no time because they are catering to maybe a single child, it amounts to a lot.
If this was some small owned restaurant, fine, but it's the fucking biggest fast food chain in the world. Give me a break.

I don't really want to defend McDonalds as there are several issues they'd need to adress to fix their image. You're drastically exaggerating, however, if you say that people only eat at McD because it's convenient.
Whereever there's a McD, there's usually also a plethora of other sources of food and snacks. Be it Burker King, bakeries, chinese take-aways - you name it. We're basically surrounded by convenient food, and in many places it's even more convenient, faster, cheaper and cleaner than at McDonalds.
Oh, and if your hypothetical poor student doesn't have enough money for some sauce then maybe he shouldn't eat at McD in the first place. There are much cheaper ways to get (better) food, and contrary to your post, McDonalds isn't "the only thing around" anywhere.

I've never seen a McDonald's that didn't have 2+ fast food places within a mile (in the suburbs) or 2-3 blocks (in the city), so the convenience argument is retarded.

LOL guys, you do realize McDonalds is a franchise, it means the individual private franchisees owners can charge you whatever they want.
Hence why sauce is free is some places and not in others..

It's not that the .25 cents is breaking my budget, but it's something that I feel should be a free commodity, just like ketchup with fries, salsa with chips at Mexican restaurants, hot sauce with wings, etc.
So are you telling me that if McDonalds starts charging for ketchup you will pay them and not feel negative about it? Or if you want to boycott them you will have to stop getting ketchup with your fries at fast food chains because McDonald's is a monopolistic competitor (if you don't know the definition look it up, I'm not saying they are a monopoly) so the other companies will soon follow suit. (If you want to say this is wrong the same thing happened with sauce btw, it used to be free everywhere, McDonalds started to charge for it, and then the majority of fast food restaurants soon followed suit, now that trend seems to be reversing because of negative customer feedback).

There are much cheaper ways to get (better) food, and contrary to your post, McDonalds isn't "the only thing around" anywhere. People only eat at McDonald's because it's cheap, accessibly convenient and because of its name. Those are the three general reasons people go there and if it's somewhere like BK, it's because they have grown up with going to BK instead. I don't know what other restaurants they have in Germany but if you asked someone from NA if they would rather eat at somewhere like Red Lobster or McDonald's if prices were the same, the former would win with a landslide (assuming the participants have an equal liking for seafood as beef or chicken).
Obviously we're not talking about locations in Siberia where there is only one McDonald's for people to eat out at, but if you look at a number of locations where McD's are situated, it's in very popular areas and they have no problem out-competing competitors and taking on new market shares. If McDonald's was taken out of the equation, a lot of other smaller scale restaurants would be able to compete and you'd have better food and better competitive prices.
That wasn't the point of my post, however. The point of my post was that if people are gonna be reeled into McDonald's because it happens to be at a major intersection they live nearby and because McD's has paid the highest offers to air their excellently marketed commercials during prime coverage (Olympics anyone?), then I don't see the problem with someone using the same tactics to deter a cashier from charging for a packet of sauce that McDonald's uses when they present you with your "real beef" Big Mac that has what looks like cardboard substituted for the meat and that you'd already paid 8$ for.

If you're getting on someone's case for not paying $0.25 for a damn packet of sauce, when they have already forked out enough for a combo, then something is wrong.
It reminds me of this little red-headed dwarf hybrid bitch that one time was serving me at McD's in the morning. I was a student and presented my student card to her after she rang in my order. She then looked at me and said "that only works with combos, and you have a combo and a muffin, so I can't give you the discount" and she then looked at me for the money. I was baffled that someone in their minds thought "okay we have a broke student here, but I'd rather have McDonald's not lose money giving someone an extra discount on their muffin (which I didn't even care for anyway) so I'll just take away the whole discount!". So what did I do? I yelled at her to redo the whole fucking order then, because I sure as hell wasn't gonna walk away without any discount to make her life easier. Ironically, it was the Christmas season and she was the only one who would hop around wearing an elf hat.

im doing a dental degree so ill give some 1/2 educated guess... ive done a bit of anatomy/physiology
i think it has something to do with the fact that the nerves that supply the sensory information of the esophagus and the skin of the left arm to your fingers is the same.
so if your esphagus is sending signals to the brain, then you stimulate your skin by causing pain in that area that will send signals to the brain instead if the stimulation is more intense than that of your indigestion
after each signal is sent there is a (refractory period) where no signals can be sent. so if you do this your brain will get the info about the pain in the finger then refractory period the pain in finger and you cant send info about the pain in the esophagus at the same time.
could be wrong but i know if you have an esophageal spazm or a heart attack you get referred pain in your left arm to the tip of your fingers so the sensory nerve pathways are linked somehow.
hope it makes some sort of sense :S

Can we please stop all of this Mc Donald's stuff, feels like work's following me around where ever I go. McD's is the only 24 hour restaurant in our entire city, if anyone withing a 60+ km radius wants something to eat at night, this is basically the only place they can come to get food, so they kinda have no choice. And yes, they are being douche bags for charging 40 cents for sauce (it's higher here) and I just found out last night, that the "Free water" isn't actually free (at least at the one I work at) I got in a tonne of shit for almost giving out a cup of free water. My bitchy manager was like "we are not a charity... you could lose your job, etc." and I was just standing there smiling. But the guy who wanted it heard the whole thing and he felt so bad about it, he came back from an atm later and bought $10 worth of food just to get a glass of "Free water" and he also apologized to me and I really felt bad for the guy because he had to pay money just to get some fucking water.
So yes, they have the worst business practice ever imo, but you're still being a cheap bastard for trying to beg some sauce off them, knowing they charge you.
Also, h0neyBadger, your post was epic, I hope you are right (I don't have indigestion, but it's a really cool thing that your body works like that right?)
