There is a big difference between paying for the right to use those sounds/phrases and someone just lifting them for their own use.

It'd be very hypocritical if blizzard was bitching about their intellectual property if they didn't respect others...

There are still people these days still don't know how heavily SC borrows from Aliens? Besides all the lines from the dropship pilot, there is also the Terran Marine who borrows lines like "How do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?" - Hudson

There is also the Hydralisk which features the same toothy grin and long head shape as the Alien from the movies.

And don't forget how the Confederacy's treatment of the Zerg is almost textbook Weyland-Yutani. The UED as well.

Blizzard chooses their sources well, Aliens is one of my favorite movies of all time.

To me this thread seems about as ridiculous as someone saying that the governor of California is copying the Thor pilot. Blizzard likes to respect classic nerd entertainment by adding pieces of it in their games. The similarities between WoW Arthas and LOTR Sauron are an easy and obvious example, and there are many more. Most, if not all, of Starcraft can be traced back to classic science fiction, and the references could probably fill a book.

I enjoyed that a lot. It seems though that most of the recycled animation was used for cheaper films: I've never seen the one with the fox (robin hood retelling?), or the one with the cats. As an animation company, it makes a lot of sense for them to trace over old lines and only change small details... It takes hundreds of thousands of man hours to make those films

I remember i once heard the scream you get from clicking on T academy in Prison Break when that badass villain chick broke out from some sort of rape basement :|
The sound played when she killed a guard. Im 100% it was the same sound.

Edit: after few google searches i was unable to find a video (all that were uploaded were removed due to copyrights), but i found a topic on gosugamers where someone else have noticed it.

yeah, i've seen these before, it's really interesting i found.
i discovered another related youtube video awhile ago, i found it just as interesting though it relates to music instead of movies it still deals with a reused sound effect

Another famous "scream". The Howie Scream that is used commonly in several movies. Notice how our beloved Terran Academy also features the exact same sound. Why? I'm not sure lol.

The Scream from the Terran Academy is called 'Gut-renching scream while fading into the distance' and has been used in countless movies prior to the release of SC (this scream is not the same as the Wilhelm, but it is the same principle in its wide-spread use).

Edit: I've never heard it called the Howie scream before.

In the Brothers Grimm film they use the same sound as in Warcraft 3 when it goes from day to night (the wolf scream + some of instruments fading out).

That's not a reuse of a sound, it's an Easter Egg. There are a ton of these in the unit quotes, almost all of them.

Mike Morhaime and Chris Sigaty are great fans of Ridley Scott

you'll notice question 5 of that "Join the Dominion exam" is straight out of Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" .. a sci fi cult classic.

all their fiction is filled with Ridley Scott references

First noticed this scream thing when I played Unreal years ago. All kinds of screams and yells in the background in the opening level are used all over the place in TV shows movies and games. Occasionally hear that hilariously long and overdone "Eeeh aahh ooooh! Uurgghh!" one from time to time.
