Valikyr
Sweden2653 Posts
So I was going to rename one of my alt characters on WoW to something and I had settled on something from Norse mythology and since the character was an undead priest I felt that Valkyrie was a fitting name since their job was to bring the souls of warriors fallen in battle to Valhalla. The problem however was that it was a male character and Valkyries were females (+Valkyrie was taken) so I decided to make my own male version of the Valkyrie which ended up being "Valikyr". Been going under the names Barva, Billeh, Billigglass, Swahili in the past but won't get into where those names came from ![]()

zhurai-tsuki zhu = zhu rong (chinese fire god or something) rai = raiden (japanese lightning&thunder /god/whatever) tsuki = tsukiyomi (japanese god of the moon or something) so I just mixed them all together and created zhurai-tsuki as my handle then I thought that the -tsuki took too long to type (as I was mainly using it on IRC), and sometimes actually too long for some servers (like it'll be cut off at like, zhurai-tsu or whatever) so I just shortened it to zhurai. then again people shorten it even more to zhu (like when my brother talks to me online ingame or something -.-) ...yea.

After being banned a few times, I decided to adopt it as my gaming name. Upon registering on battle.net (back in sc1 and wc3) i learned someone else had the name. So I added the "fish" part just for fun. Most people at varsity now refer to me as Noodle or NoodleFish

Some time after this I had my real name changed and since I needed a new middle name after changing my last name to my old one, I put Gimble there. I was also meeting many gamer friends around this time, so people using my middle name seemed less weird. Since Gimble is actually used in several games (DnD, WoW ect) and is also a kind of book holder, I added a "B" to the end since it's the initial of my last name. There is also many jokes that come from this, such as when my team tells me to "b" in HoN. ![]()

Isken

I left out the 12 year old one (Shadowkahn) because I did not like it (Although the character in the cartoon Jackie Chan was awesome, appearing and vanishing at will any place shadows could be found...) Played WoW for 5 years (stopped before cataclysm) and I felt bad seeing how many people had "shadow" in their names and behaving terribly bad. Like me when I was 12 probably. When I decided to reroll, a friend was by and the newly created character was kind of a cooperation. I would keep my "kahn" suffix and he would put something before. This something was "Isken". It was already almost 5 years ago as well. Time flied as usual and this first character "Iskenkahn" I had been playing with bore me. I created a new one, but had no inspiration and since I wanted to apply in a guild which people knew me (positively) as Iskenkahn, I cut the end and kept Isken. So that my "supporters" would know it was me coming back after almost 2 years of not playing together. I was stupid to think that they would not believe me because I had a ton of screenshots left from the early days featuring me and my "supporters" ... whatever I appreciated the sound of it. Although I'm not sure how an English-speaking person would pronounce it (It looks like the sound I like in French does not really exist in English...) I played for a long time with that one and made it mine. Transferred over to starcraft 2 quite naturally. For a long time I thought I did not have any reference or any particular meaning (if you type it in google there's a turkish oil company as a first result and then results that show that Isken is a last name that a bunch of people share, other sources say it means "3" in some obscure tongue... nothing too fancy) And before replying to this thread, what do I discover : Isken : First-person singular indicative present form of iskeä (finnish verb) 1)To strike, to attack, to hit 2)To try to get someone interested (romantically) in oneself, hit on, flirt. I am a bit confused about this discovery. My nickname basically means "I hit" which I feel is strange as a nickname to have. Having the simplest verb form is akward, but I'll continue using it. However finnish does not share any roots with languages I'm connected with so I don't think many people will even notice that... :D Well now I understand better the happy few on Starcraft 2 talking to me in some language I do not have a clue about ![]() And now I finally have an explanation... It took only a few years and further research (thx TL) I don't think my friend at that time knew about that or else I would be very very surprised. Damn that was long. I like it now actually. I like to know it actually means something. ![]()

Gone through at least 4 mutations before it reached this.

Anyway, so I did the "look at things around the room and name them" Samus Aran became Schamus McArron. So i kept it as a name when "Lactose The Intolerable" didn't fit. And I needed an alt in WoW so the phrase "That's schamus, too" or "Schamus2" got shortened to Schamtoo.
