because im addicted to tolkien books (lotr hobbit silmarillion) and gwaihir was such a cool character, like the mighty ninja eagle he rescued gandalf so many times. and if you know the silmarillion you know the eagles in lotr have a special role for the ruler of arda (includes middleearth) "manwe" .
and because i was known for special ninja tactics since counter strike beta i thought gwaihir fits the most! flying high in the skkkyyyy over beautiful arda, rescuing half-god mayar (gandalf) like a boss!
and when i started playing dota competetivley i made my name my game....i play support heroes in my teams....when your in big shit and some enemies come gank you, you can always rely on the mighty ninja eagle!

When I was playing WoW, me and my ex-bf decided to make new characters and level together. His name was Thundercat, after the tv show/cartoon/whatever(I still have no idea what it is/was :D) so to make my name fit with his it became Thunderkitty.

I also had a priest on a random server that I then decided I wanted to have on the same realm as all my other characters. Her name was Crepuscolo, and when I changed realms I had to change her name because it was already taken. Since I thought Thunderkitty was kinda cute and my priest was a holypriest, I decided to rename her to Holykitty.

Thunderkitty now no longer exists but I'm still using the name Holykitty since I quite like it. and because Maddie is generally taken ;/

this is so funny ive never really thought about this!

my first online game was jedi knight 2 - i was kinda young and i originally picked the nickname luke_skywalker (impressed?!)

then i realised it was lame so i renamed myself to a much, much less stupid name: Lemon_Skywalker ( -_- ). i do not know where i got the lemon from till this very day

after a while i begun playing wc3 and made the nick Sky-Lemon (totally abandoning the star wars thingy :[ ).

as i grew up i realised that just lemon is kinda awesome but of course it turns out taken in most sites
so ive added the erer

I got it from the book series . . . Bartimaeus was a badass and since you can type Bartimaues faster than Bartimaeus I ended up with Bartimaues.

(You can type it faster because the a is typed with the left, the u by the right, and then the e by the left - whereas you would go left (a) left (e) and then right (u).)

Back when I first started playing games I used to run by a whole bunch of different aliases.
When my friend asked me to 1v1 him in DotA on WC3 I thought that I didn't want to mess up my stats on my "good account" so after thinking about what I would name my temporary account... Temporary!

One day in school it occurred to me that all my friends were using nicknames online to represent themselves. I was like 14 at the time and hadn't really joined many forum sites or things like that at that stage, so used random gibberish names whenever I did. I finally decided it was time to pick a name to stick to, but it also had to be something unique so that it would be unlikely to be taken, and easy for other people to recognise, so short, simple and nothing ridiculous.

I spent like two or three days completely clueless as to what name to use. Stuff like this for me always has to be perfect, so I always try to get it right the first time. My two closest friends at the time were using the names "Link" (A Zelda fan) and "Key" (Some lazy play on his name, Kieran.)

I was also a huge Metal Gear fan and I was just after buying Metal Gear Acid which had just been released on PSP. Yeah, I know it was terrible, but I had to play it for the sake of it being MGS. So there I was, derping around in this embarrassment to the Metal Gear name, when I noticed one of the characters names, "Teliko". I thought about it for a while. The main problem that struck me was that the character was female, so I started asking around to see what sex people would represent a name like that to be, because the last thing I wanted was people trying to cyber with me everywhere I went. After establishing that people were entirely clueless because they'd never heard of a name like it before, I decided this was perfect for me.

So, there you have it. I'm named after the main female character in a shitty hand-held console game from six years ago.

Dracolich derives from late 80's, when I played AD&D, and was a name I reserved for a character that never got used. It is also what undead dragons are called in same game. I just found it cool sounding. I think first time I used it online was in June 2004, when I named my character this in Eve-online, and a bit later a character in WoW, though not one I played a lot with. Just remembered I called one of my characters this in Diablo 2 in 2000, when I went from singleplayer to multiplayer.

Unfortunately others have since then taken it to heart, and I often need to use a different ID nowadays.
