Can spend about $2000.
I am looking for something that is versatile: suitable for everyday use, durable, but would still go well with a suit. Metal strap. Keeps track of the date. I hope for this watch to be the last one I purchase for at the next ten or fifteen years. I have a small wrist, so I'd prefer a mid-size watch.
Here are the two that I was thinking about:
Tag Heuer Carrera
Omega Seamaster 300m
Which one do you like more?
Poll: Which Watch? (Vote): Watch 1 (Vote): Watch 2
I'm open to any other suggestions!

How about a watch on which you can actually clearly see the hands and the marks for every hour/minute?
Ugh... if i'd have to choose I'd go with n1. There at least the hour marks look normal and the hands are thin so you'll actually be able to tell the time
edit: ohh yeah, the 1st one also has the option of telling the date. I can't live without it in a watch. Now definitely n1.

2k for a watch? the novelty wears off after about a week.
this is my watch. http://www.nywatchstore.com/fs4370.html
cheap + square face + stainless steel case + black leather band = sexy/stylish/says i want to be formal but im here to party

Buy yourself something nice that's not a watch.
|
I would be too scared to break or lose it...
|
Your a student... And you can spend $2000 on a watch... Damned spoiled rich kids.
|
How about you buy a 5 dollar watch replica in China, and buy me something for the other 1995, haha. As for actual feedback, I think both of them are too busy for my taste. If you're going to go all out, I'd suggest an elegant, simple watch.
Movado has some nice models.
EDIT: Movado is generally assuming (bar some models) that you aren't actually using the watch as a primary form to tell time accurately, but as fashion. Most of them don't have increments telling you where the hours are (i.e. plain circle).
|
I'm open to any other suggestions! I suggest you buy a $1000 watch and host a $1000 tournament with the top foreigners. Spread that wealth around!

Best ad ever for watches. Makes me wanna buy a Patek Philippe so badly. Unfortunately it's probably out of most ordinary peoples availability range.
Go with watch no. 1, by far the prettiest of the two. The huge numbers on the outer rim of watch no. 2 make me dislike it so bad.

Someone told me that a watch to a man is like a purse to a women. I guess you have to spend a lot of money on it to look good.
Regular people just use cell phones.
|
Watch 1 looks really good. I have one of these types of watches, been using it for about 3-4 years and it still looks kinda new.
|
There are plenty of good reliable watches that will still last for ten years and only be a fraction of the price. Most people won't know you only spent <$100 on it, either. Who are you trying to impress?

My recommendation is you DON'T spend 2k$ on a watch. Get a really nice 500$ one and save / spend the rest.
A watch tells time and looks nice sometimes. Oh and it gets stolen. Not worth 2k$ dude.

My opinion on watches is that while they look nice on occasion, there are so many things that tell time around us (cell phones, practically everything that runs on electricity) that they have really no point other than fashion.

People still wear watches? What?

The first ones looks nicer, and if you consider seiko,
http://www.seikocan.com/brand.php?id=16
I have a Seiko Primier and I can tell you its well made. They have ones that keep track of the date for you too. You cant really see the background of the watches, but these ones usually have background patterns (square or curvy) on the watches which are quite subtle and quite nice.
|
The only way you can justify getting a 2k watch is if it has some James Bond addons.
And if it isn't waterproof, everyone here is gonna laugh until they puke.
|
I've got nothing against expensive watches, or expensive fashion in general, but I hope the rest of your wardrobe matches a $2000 accessory.
That said, the Movado watches that Archaic mentioned are pretty suave.
|
I guess the first one if you really think it's worth it.

the carerra watch looks soooo much better than the omega
and guys, who cares if hes buying a 2k watch...

op watches look like shit tbh edit- (for 2k, you can find such a better watch)

This is, as is always the case from Charlie, a fantastic, useful post.

If I were you I would have gone with the Omega, though of mid-size the Seamaster watches, I would really go for this one instead:
http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=286&details=1&ref=21230362001001&no_cache=1
I have the 300 M Chrono Diver myself. I've had it for two years, and it's as reliable as the sun. Nothing against Tag Heuer, but if you're going to have one watch for the next ten years (like I'm planning), then I would go with the Omega.
|
Watches are kind of obsolete. Buy a new mobile instead. You can get a very stylish luxury phone for 2k.
|
Definitely #1, the second one looks like a $10 piece of shit. And hell, even if it were free I wouldn't wear it.

I voted for #1, but if I had the money I'd get a Fortis ... should be good for all occasions and is very readable:

Yeah, seriously. Anything less than Guess would be unacceptable to wear with a 2k watch. (I only used Guess because it rhymes with less.)
To be on topic. I don't like either watch, but I voted #1 because I think it looks better. When it comes down to it, though, you need to buy this for yourself, not for everyone else. Honestly, if you're buying this watch with the sole intent of impressing people, no one will be impressed because you'll come across as a try-hard dbag. You gotta go with what you think looks good, and fuck what anyone else says.

Wow...why shoud anyone buy any jewlery at all? Why does anyone buy brand name clothing when there are far cheaper alternatives? By your logic, its cause they are all douche bags. So if you ever buy a sports car I can call you a douche bag. There is nothing wrong with trying to impress people, thats how you get people to like and respect you. There is also nothing wrong with buying expensive things to have a good image and impress people especially in the business world(or impressing girls (^.-) ).
Anyways, go with 1.

You missed the point of my post. Good job on having poor reading comprehension. (FFS, I even said buying anything less than a name-brand clothing company, although not the most expensive in the world, would be unacceptable with a 2k watch. You're really bad at reading.) To clarify, so we don't have to drag this out, I wasn't saying that buying name-brand makes you a dbag (I don't think that at all, and I WISH I made enough money right now to buy nothing but top brands like Prada, Gucci, Louis V, etc, but I don't at this point in my life [broke college student TT;], but I digress). The point is, if you're ONLY doing it to impress other people, you're doing it for the wrong reasons. Buy things because YOU like them, not because everyone else likes them. People that buy things with the sole intent to impress other people with their money are shallow douche bags, and I have no problem at all saying that, because it's true. Having really nice things is really nice, but don't buy it if you don't like it. That's all I was saying. And I'll give an example: a lot of people love Ed Hardy clothes. I think they're tacky as fuck, therefore I won't buy Ed Hardy just because it's popular, and a lot of girls like it. I'd rather buy something else, because I like the way it looks, not because everyone else tells me it looks cool.
I guess I'm saying to be yourself, in a roundabout way, but I don't mean it like "it's okay to be an antisocial loser, maybe you'll get lucky and find someone some day." I think those people need to change, but don't be a fucking robot I guess.

I agree with CharlieMurphy... all those watches don't even look like they are worth 2k. Only people you will impress are those who know how much you spent (which means you actually have to tell them) and people who know a thing or 2 about watch brands (which is like what? < 1% of the people you will meet?).
Spend max $500 on a watch and then $1500 on something else, unless your parents are buying it for you then go nuts and get whatever you want.

Well it's more about style than it is to tell time, really.
I'd get something like this.
I don't like watches that have too many dials, and the second one has huge digits. Also, 95% of people won't be able to tell how expensive it is. So at least find one that looks really well if you're gonna spend that much money on it.

Never worn a watch in my life, got real good at guessing time. Now that I have a cellphone my timetelling needs are completly fulfilled. + I've seen a lot of watches break/get lost on accident. On top of that people could get mugged for a 2k watch :O Although I don't think muggers would be able to appraise a watch for thbat much money - thus making it worthless.
For real 2k wtf. richhhh
|
don't think you would really buy a $2000 watch. if you would you need to get your money priorities fixed up, especially for an everyday watch, not some limited edition platinum and gold collectors item. no one wears a watch for the time anymore, everyone has a cell phone. you're better off buying other clothing accessories for $2000 that people won't laugh at when you tell them how much you spent.
|
people still buy watches?
|
Buy one which doesnt keep time, or doenst let you read it.
That way other people can see immidiatly that you don't have the watch to see the time on.
Right?

Buy a cheap one. God I hate how people buy things for something else than functionality. It's fine every now and then, but ruthless wasting is annoying.

You have $2000 to waste. Paypal me, I could actually use it.
Drifting a little further off topic: I don't see why anyone wears a watch, don't we have phones and ipods and laptops and a clock in our car and 3 wall clocks visible in every location at this point? If we don't, we can get all that for a lot less than $2000.

$1 US dollar = € 0.6663 euros
so if it cost 2800 euros, it would cost $4202 American dollars?
