A mysterious photograph has become the subject of wild internet speculation after a group of teenagers claimed it was a terrifying creature that they beat to death while playing near a cave in Panama.
The rubbery beast was said to have been spotted by a group of teenagers crawling out of a cave as they played in the town of Cerro Azul north of Panama City on Saturday.
To their horror, they claimed it came towards them. Fearing for their safety, they beat it to death with sticks, throwing its body in a pool of water, they told Panama's Telemetro television station.
Later they apparently worked up the courage to return and take photographs of the bizarre creature.
The images were posted on the web - and instantly drew comparisons with the 'Montauk Monster', a still-unidentified creature that washed up on a Long Island, New York, beach last year. The creature had a strange hairless, leathery body with sharp teeth. Appearing on U.S gossip website Gawker under the headline 'Dead Monster Washes Ashore in Montauk', the story was picked up by media networks across the world. Commentators identified it variously as a dead dog, an abandoned film prop, and some kind of bizarre marketing stunt - but its remains have never been found.
Internet users are already speculating on what the creature found in Panama may be. The presence of a hooked claw has led some to suggest it may be a sloth that somehow lost its hair. The Telemetro website said some speculation had suggested it was a creature from another planet.

I did the same thing and it does seem like the sloth. If u google an image of a sloth u see they have large claws and at the last picture you can see part of its claw. Or nails, w/e you wanna call it.

It looks like a sloth, you have to remember it was beaten and thrown into a pool so it's a little disfigured. As for the hair.... shaved off or maybe badly burned? That's just my assumption.

Seems like if you "beat" something to death, there should be evidence of pretty severe trauma. I mean dead actually takes a lot of hitting and really hard hitting. I can't see any blood or bruises or torn skin.
Wow those assholes, I can almost guarantee that it did not threaten them in any way. Teens being assholes probably followed it or just saw it and decided to kill it because it looks different. It does look like a hairless sloth though.
They must have poisoned the sloth or something, or else it would be wounded all over. Then shaved it carefully (but only the upper body, you can see in the last pic the bottom half still has hair), then made up a story. Weird kids.

Also, looks like a shaved sloth to meh and no beating wounds = fake to me you have to bludgeon something pretty hard and repeatedly in the head to kill something a fuck ton of body wounds just doesn't do it for me and either way there would be some signs of "LAWL I STICKED YOU TO DEATH" again fake to me...

nope. I've seen beaten animals before and they have lots of scars and bruises and haemathomas. This is most likely a retarded picture of a poor dead possibly poisoned animal with some hair disorder.
Sooooooooooo fake. Seems to me that a bunch of teenagers found a dead sloth or some other animal, shaved it, then proceeded to take pictures of this animal. Finally, to make the perfect cover they dispose of the body so no one can say it was a sloth. If i saw a creature that was this strange why not take pictures of it while it's alive and moving, and NOT dispose of the body. Then, and only then would I consider this legit.
