Couldn't find this anywhere else, but I thought it was pretty cool they actually let him talk about it, and showed some gameplay/booths etc.

This is probably quite noob of me..

But I find it really cool they call him ElkY instead of Bertrand.

It's his real nickname, as opposed to just like his gamer tag, right?

He uses it as his nickname; just like another famous poker player Chris Ferguson aka Jesus.

Yes but he needs to show some of his face.

Elky wears sunglasses all the time. All the time. Pretty much all the SC videos you can find of him back in the day he was wearing sunglasses while playing.

I do like how elky always speaks so positively about SC though, comparing it to chess etc; it gives the game a good rep,
The fact that ESPN cut out a small clip making it seem like elky started SC just because it was a "video game he could play professionally" isnt optimal, but elky is overall a great sport especially now that he's playing poker

they've mentioned it offhand quite a lot in previous episodes, even in previous seasons. Probably just due to the amount of quality poker players that come from starcraft. I remember when havad khan made his big run to the final table them mentioning (but not really knowing what it was) starcraft a few times, but this is the first time i saw them actually go in depth about it and show some of the game and let a player speak about it.

Also from what I heard, elky went pretty far so I'm expecting to see more of this!

Ivan Demidov was 2nd overall last year. Isn't that Slayer? Or some other former pro from the old-school days. They covered SC then too iirc.

What was Hevad Khan's online name SC AKA?

I believe Slayer's name is Fredrik Ostervold. He is from Norway I think, not Russia.

Hevad Khan was, I believe, known as z7-Rain and Rainkhan - perhaps some others.

It's easy to call it a good bluff but its really just a lucky bluff.

There's a reason why players like that seem good but never really accomplish anything longterm. Note I'm not saying hes bad...it's just a very shaky style of play.

Ya it was a good bluff in that situation. But its not like the guy KNEW they werent holding an ace. He was just hoping they werent. If they were holding an ace, they would definitely call a loose player like that and hed go broke. Super aggresive players like that do really well when they are running well (aka their opponents aren't catching the best hand shown on the board). But when they start running into opponents that do, they lose a ton more than other players would. It all balances out.

I don't know the results but I gurantee you we won't see that kid at the final table. It's one thing to make several smaller bets, size up your opponent, get a good read, then bluff him out. Its another thing entirely to just bet, raise, all in and hope and pray your opponents hand isn't strong enough. Not saying its a bad play..its actually really smart for weaker players, forces the pro to make a very hard decision but its not how the top pros play because its too luck dependent. Ya it makes for good TV but not for winning poker in such a large field.

As to why they didn't show Elky that much. I'm guessing because hes not relevant to the overall tourniment...yes hes chip leader now but he also plays a semi agressive(not as much as the smurf) style and I'm guessing he probably starts to run cold and loses most of his chips and doesnt end up making the final table. I haven't spoiled the final table for myself so once again this is just a guess.

Phil Ivey...now there's a fuckin poker bad ass. What an amazing player that guy is, I think every poker fan can agree on that one.

The reason they dont focus much on elky imo is because there are a lot of super star players there rofl.

Like, why focus all of your time on Stork when you have Jaedong/Flash/Bisu/Boxer etc in the room as well.

isn't it more of elky = jaedong (current top player), and you have the rest who are/were decent players. i thought it might be cause elky just rapes his table, so it might make for less spectator friendliness.

A top player hasn't won WSOP Main Event in YEARS. It's always an industrious, or sometimes plain lucky rookie or pseudo-rookie.

This is great, though. WSOP is absolutely huge in middle america. That Elky is doing so well and simultaneously promoting SC is pretty awesome. All the luck in the world to you, Elky.

Elky was the WPT player of the year last year and has about 6 million in tournament winnings so he's definitely a top player, one of the best mtt players out there.

Elky posted this on LP

"Weeeee thanks a lot for all the support guys. ! LP represent.

Guy in heads up was a war3 user too and pretended war3>sc from that point on there was no way in hell i was gonna lose.

Finally i did it again haha 9 months without victory felt like an eternity ^^

I played like the sickest nit ever that tournament too but chips just kept on falling my way."

Pretty sick getting down to heads up against a war3 player.

They are showing Elky on ESPN right now.
Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crown and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness.

Ya, watching the WSOP now and he's up to like the final 25 tables..
Not to long ago he won the World Poker tour championship w/ 10-10, flop came up and gave him trip 10's..
I think he was going up against Ace-Queen.

He walked away with a cool 1.4 million for that win.
