Fuck yeah. I miss Zidane so much. Guys like him and Totti are my absolute favourite type of players, so much elegance and beauty in their play. Too bad they're so unique. Cassano won the Derby della Lanterna for Sampdoria and they now have a good chance of getting a CL spot. It would be great for Cassano to get an opportunity to show his skills to the entire world (he's not going to the WC and all you idiots don't care about Serie A ![]()

The big difference between them is that Zidane was generally more clutch and capable of performing when it mattered the most (in that department Zidane has almost no peer in the entire history of the game). That is why he will be remembered as the greater of the two, but in terms of skill and talent he was never that far ahead.

only area where totti has ever mimiced zidane is the headbutting incident (as totti has been about as dirty as a player can be)

![]() I feel sad for you people who can't see beyond your bias. You miss out on so much splendiferous entertainment. Zidane only played for teams I absolutely despise during his career (Juve, Real and France), and I therefore always rooted against him and never liked him in the same way that I like certain other players (as a matter of fact I hated Zidane pretty hard for a long time), but I was still very much capable of enjoying his extreme brilliance, I would still tune in to watch him whenever I had the chance, I'm able to overlook his moments of retardation (the headbutt on Materazzi wasn't the first one in his career) and I have no problem hailing him as one of the greatest of all time. You may not like Totti for whatever reason, but belittling him as a football player by saying he's nowhere near the level of Zidane is dumb and simply untrue. Totti can't touch Zidane in terms of accomplishments, no. Zidane is more of a legend and the greater player because of his enourmous success and ability to perform at his best in the WC's. Had Totti not been a dumb, unwise fucking idiot in critical moments (like spitting on Poulsen and (arguably) diving against Korea) we might've looked on him in a very different way. In the two major tournaments where he didn't fuck up like that he got one silver (while performing outstandingly well individually and followed it up by winning Serie A the next year) and one WC gold (where he ended up providing more assists than anyone else despite suffering a fracture only months before the tournament, and in the following club season he won the European Golden Boot as the best goalscorer while winning the assist league as well). These stupid things that he has done has fucked up his reputation and his place in the history books, but they are however not related to his football skills and talent and one should not let them cloud the judgement of him as a player; Totti is every bit as talented and skilled as Zidane was. And the main reason Totti will not be considered a GOAT candidate is because he stayed with Roma. If he had gone to Real in 2000 he would've most likely been a couple of league and CL titles richer (the first season that he got to play with a solid world class striker he won the league with Roma in 2001, imagine what he could've accomplished surrounded by other stars). Winning shit is important if you wanna hang up there with the greats. During the year 2000 Totti was better than Zidane in Serie A, he was better than Zidane in the Euro tourney and received the Man of the Match award in the finals. Zidane's team won however, and therefore he got the Player of the Tournament and World Player of the Year awards, which is what we end up remembering. Totti has been named the best player in Italy 5 times during an 8 year period where Italy got 1 WC gold, 1 Euro silver and 2 CL victories (one of the absolutely best nations in the world, in other words). If only he had been more intelligent at times (stupid spit n' dive shit) and more greedy for titles (moving to a bigger club) he could've gotten the same recognition all over the world. It's a shame really. Instead we end up with people criminally underrating him instead of realizing what an exceptionally gifted genius he is. His combination of technique, vision and goalscoring prowess is insane, and he most certainly had the potential to be up there with the all time legends. Not quite fulfilled potential, obviously, but stop saying he's not on par with for instance Zidane in terms of skill. He really is.

Yeah in terms of skill, remember the ridiculous penalty kick style? fucking amazing and Totti did it first iirc T.T + Show Spoiler + Seriously, Totti was not even close to Zidane -.-

Let me ask you this, and answer honestly; how many games with Totti as a trequartista have you actually watched? I have seen hundreds of games with both Zidane and Totti, and even though there are small differences in roles and attributes they are most certainly comparable and belong in the same tier as far as skill and talent goes (although I would still rate Zidane as the better one, but not by much). I have seen just about every youtube video with Zidane out there, and I know and appreciate what a brilliant player he was. You should watch some youtube videos of Totti (and ignore whatever feelings you might have for him). He is more than just a 'very good player', he's truly a unique genius who never quite reached his full potential.

basically a very good player in his generation, but someone that will be virtually forgotten 10 years from now. zidane is a player in the same league as pele, maradona, cruyff and beckenbauer, people that will still be talked about 30 years from now. and this is not just due to totti's lack of titles (for example cryuff never won an international title), but because he's never been the best player in the world.. at his peak, top 10 forwards, absolutely. but never best.

That circa 2001 Real Madrid team with every superstar on the planet didn't even achieve that much. Yes Zidane was a fantastic midfielder but I agree with Holgerius I wouldn't rate him higher than Totti or even Scholes at his prime.
