For those who don't know, the gameplay is basically CS 1.3 but there's a few tweaks with weapons and stuff. It was originally Korean only, but they've opened up a North American beta.
So far there's lots of players, but not all the Korean items are available. :/
Beats CS 1.6? Not even. A lot of free fps games are really bad in terms of gameplay and most of them have the same features as CS (bomb plant or rescue hostages). Usually Korean made FPS games require you to play a lot in order to get ingame money on which you spend on weapons, or rental that last either a day, a week, or a month. Also the recoil pattern is random as fuck compared to CS 1.6 since it has one of the best recoil patterns for a fps game, which is why it's the best competitive team based fps game. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but people who say *insert free fps game here* beats CS 1.6 or Call of Duty 4 are usually bad at the game itself so they play free fps games that has horrible recoil patterns so they can get random kills and actually be decent at a bad game. Or they jumped on the Korean fps game bandwagon just because Koreans themselves play it. Hell, I'd rather play CS:S over any free fps game.

I was in CAL-i and I made most of CAL-p my bitch for 2/3 of a season. Not to mention CS was a free fps game too.
That said, I haven't figured out the spray recoil yet and the recoil doesn't seem as good as CS, but it feels pretty solid with bursts (as long as you choose the right weapon.) The netcode/hitboxes are weird so long range actually feels really good, whereas up close gets kind of iffy.
It's more fun than 1.6 because you're not getting destroyed by movement speed like you are in everything post-1.4. You can pistol in the air (accuracy decreases same as regular running, I believe) and you can quick shot with snipers really easily. The TRG isn't enabled right now so it hasn't turned into an AWP/deagle fest yet, but I can see it happening on some maps. It's much faster than 1.6.
Oh, and the maps are really bad, but that's just from a pub perspective.
The game seems fast-paced, which is definitely appealing to me as a casual gamer (1.6 was too slow for my taste at times) and it seems to me that a lot of the pubs are in deathmatch mode, which I like as well.
Seems like a really fun game to play with friends in a LAN party or something; I'll definitely give it a shot
The funny thing is the general ideas behind these maps is all taken from different CS maps. The themes are totally different, but the layouts are very similar to different CS maps. Hopefully there's some sort of map editor with this thing. It's definitely more fun to pub, I'm not sure about competition though.
Airport = Nuke, Chinaplace = Aztec, Depot = Dust, etc.
More thoughts: The magnum is $$$. Not quite a 1.3 deagle, but fairly close. Haven't gotten an AK yet (wasted money on flashes >.>) but the default autorifles are worthless except the N1a Carbin (nice name change!) Dragu isn't 100% damage, but you an still get a 1shot kill if you're accurate. Not good at quickshotting with it yet, and not sure how accurate noscoping is.
I actually like the idea behind limiting you to 1 type of nade at a time, because you don't have to worry about flashes in pubs. The flashes aren't bad, but the nades are perfect for playing against idiots. In matches, you'd have to plan out your comp a bit more and I think that's a good thing.
I would be up for some scrims (as a breath of new air, for some fun), however, it would be lovely if they sent me my damned confirmation email first :|.

And it DEFINITELY beats Source.
how do you mean iffy? ( referring to the hit boxes) is it iffy like Battle field 2 horribad or is it just slightly bellow average?
I play Source mainly but I follow CS a lot and play a few hours a month.. Not gonna turn this into a complete bitchfest about what game is best as we all know how productive that is.
I do gotta say though, CS with nice graphics does have a lot of appeal so I'm downloading it.
Wow, I just played my first round on it (a deathmatch with crappy players) and it's definitely a solid game. Hitreg is great Of course, I still need to try out its CS-style game mode, but I'm sure it's good.
i've had many friends from church that played the korean one (my church is quite fob haha) and i was always left out because i was born in the US so i didn't have a korean social security number lol. finally a chance to play it!

Done. AK is definitely better upclose than the M1a, and tapping works really well for long range. Honestly, the most annoying part for me so far is all the fucking Koreans. >.> Not only are they much better than everyone because they've been playing the game forever, but they feel the need to broadcast their Koreaness with names like K0reanboy, KrnSn1per, IMAHuGEKOREAN.
Mouse input is so terrible in this game, I really don't know how people manage to play it competitively. Is there some kind of directinput option or something? Or some options I need to change? It's almost like sentivity depends on FPS or something and it just goes nuts sometimes, plus it seems to move slightly up and down at random times.
I saw this game on ogn. It looked pretty good. Even they have map imbalances hehe. I might play it when i get my new computer. That person in the vid is so fast.

The main thing I dislike about CS:S is nade spam. You can throw grenades so quickly and you can pick up more off the people you kill. Also, the physics on random objects hinders gameplay because they block movement.
On August 01 2009 00:28 AoN.DimSum wrote: any tips on playing better? i use shift to steady aim.
Aim for the head. If you are new to FPS games, you might begin spraying as soon as you see an enemy. Conciously aim for the head and burst until it becomes reflexive.
Edit: Jibba, you forgot to add me to the list in the OP. My handle is Durak.

you mean the walk function? i wouldnt use it in firefights. in friefights you probably strafe randomly while erratically crouching and jumping.

I find that being more aware of your surroundings and making more conscious decisions instead of trying to go Rambo helps a lot. Aiming for the head + not spraying is also a must.

A lot of CS players from past versions dislike CS:S because of the buggy hitboxes, random recoil, funny looking player models (CS:S models' heads are bigger than CS 1.6s'), annoying flashbangs, etc. I have not touch CS:S in about 2 - 2 1/2 years, so I don't know if Valve even updated the game (doubt it) since then. There are tons of videos on YouTube comparing CS:S to past CS versions.

I don't think it's about interacting with us, I think it's just so they can rape us.
Jesus, been getting raped in this game. How the hell can someone kill me in like half a second without headshotting me, yet I can unload into them for 3 seconds without getting a kill?
I must lag like ass. One thing that kind of pisses me off is the ridiculous teamstacking. It ruins the fun of the game.
This looks exactly like Warrock, and that game ended up sucking because of a patch that made everybody lag and there are an insane amount of hackers playing it. Can anybody who has played Warrock comment on how this is different then Warrock? And when I means it looks exactly like Warrock, I mean the graphics look the same too.
I fail so horrible at using the Sniper Rifle Any good players willing to give advice? I tried the pro way of shooting, aiming without scope, but it's so damn hard when a bullet goes near you and you insta-die. I'm also interested in the AK, it seems more versatile.
fun game though, I played a lot and I've got a .6 K/D ratio
Oh yeah, I'm Fael_Azalea online. The sniper rifle is really fucked because the hitboxes on people are reaaaallly weird. If you hit them anywhere from the crotch - lower torso, they won't even get hit. Upper chest/head/legs/arms. It's like the center of them doesn't exist. >.>
Btw for no scoping, if you're having problems with it. Just make a mark where your cursor should be.

thtas just lying to yourself.
can you turn the HUD off in sudden attack? cuz if its off, you have an empty screen with no gun or any clutter, so its easy to predict the middle.
I just installed the game earlier today, and I'm getting that same error. Oh well, it was kind of fun while it lasted, though I think CS 1.6 has more going for it.
I fixed the "illegal program" error, but now it just bluescreens lol.
I'm not following why this game has so many problems? I thought it was already battle tested in Korea and they just switched the languages and setup some servers.
Didn't know there was a NA beta going on for SA o_o;
I think the game has potential but most of the maps suck and for some reason, in the Korean servers at least, there are random rules that are taken for granted like certain guns being banned, no more than 1 sniper on each team, no flash bangs etc.
It's still a fun game but I hate how everyone seems to only play on the shit boring ass maps like 제3보급 (what is that in English anyway -_-).
My favorite maps: Province Old School Warehouse (one of the few dm maps almost without complete faggotry) Poseidon
I'm 2 diamonds at 61~62% kill ratio. I guess that makes me pretty decent (I think the average Korean FPS skill level sucks though).
Basics (most of them for warehouse): - watch radar on bomb maps. As long as you pay attention to where your teammates died and places they've passed, the enemy should always be popping out from ahead. - Wallshotting doesn't work nearly as well as in CS. There are only a few places (like the big wooden doors in Province) you can wallshot people so don't waste your time or give your position away doing this. - use AK, ridiculously easy to get kills with it in newbie games (which I'll assume since it's a beta game). 3-4 shots to the chest kills so you can pretty much spray at mid range and you'll rack up kills as long as your 1st shot is accurate. - position yourself and face the direction where you're most likely to engage. Don't expose yourself so that you have to check more than 1 direction (containers = shield) - I don't regularly use the TRG but don't camp in 1 spot too often. It only works if your team is winning by a large margin. It's better to be hopping around between 2-3 sniping spots and quicksniping (jump on box -> find target -> boom -> jump down).

kay, so then your opinion is void.
edit: Jibba, when you say netcode, what do you mean? if it has anything to do with ping (random guess) then yes, its pretty bad. if you have 4ping, you could be in for some bullshit. you will often get lub shots (basically when you hit them before you die, but due to your lag the server thinks you died first and thus your shot does not count) and it will piss you off. if you have 3ping or less, god help you. this is especially bad for snipers, and headshots that you know you got (it looks different) but the server says otherwise. i have 4ping, it really sucks sometimes, but whatever.
anyways after playing cs1.6 with some friends, i still prefer sa for a few reasons. 1. gameplay is much much much much faster, which i really like 2. its waaayyyyy more competitive, in most cases 3. sniping works muuucchhhh better in terms of moving shots (if you know how to brake properly), quickzoom, etc. also i find that sniping in 1.6 has a bit of a skill cap; in sa, if youre good, you can move out from behind a wall and get a sniper who is camping. in cs1.6, it just doesnt work... they have a huge advantage whereas in sa the advantage is smaller and its more of whoever's faster will win. 4. fucking koreans man. theyre so cute
after playing 1.6 competitively for years, i can safely say that SA is a terrible, terrible game.
gameplay is slow and repetitive sniping is definitely fucked buying guns for 7 days? lol it's even worse than combat arms actually grenade physics are retarded spraying is too easy compared to cs 1.6
yeah first of all I know most of the s2k guys and OP name doesn't ring a bell, and the fact that you enjoy this game makes it really hard for me to believe you were invite CS. Maybe I'm just biased for playing CS for literally 10 years but SA is a crap game. The movements retarded, recoils a joke, grenades weigh like a hundred pounds apparently, and I like to buy guns in the beginning of a round, not the beginning of a week. Like I seriously hope this is a huge troll, because I can't see how anyone could consider this a competitive fps. CS:S was better ffs.
Now, as far as just jumping in a game and pubbing? Eh I guess, it's kinda nice because nobody really pubs 1.6 anymore, just iceworld deathmatch etc.

by the way, it sounds like the hacks (or you, in order to use the hacks) replaced one of the gamefiles (most likely a .dll) and you didnt save the original one. nice work ^^
Oh wow, didn't know there was a thread for this...
Used to be a big deal in SA SEA but never really got into the NA server that much. Much problems with hackers and for some reason I have about same lagg as I got on SEA server.

CA? better then SA? ......
at least in CA, when you shoot someone in the balls it shows a little funny message. made it slightly more enjoyable.
..why do people keep saying sniping is messed up in this game. the sniping in the game is set up to be totally skill based. people with godlike reaction times and fast dragshoot and quickzoom are actually able to use them without any sliding bullshit. you do slide like in cs1.6, but not nearly as far, especially if you know how to breakshot. watch some videos of the pro snipers; they could crush 1.6 snipers any day if they played sudden attack (with years of practice etc etc) whereas in 1.6 there is more of a skill cap. of course, at amateur level that isnt an issue, but at competitive level it is.

Pretty Much
The only thing that is dirty in sniping is burning/barram shot, which isn't legal in tournament settings.
Burning is where it seems to other players that you are floating/moving real fast, and baram shot is lag shot by pressing f8 for screen capture.
The only way to move and shoot is to break and it is extremely hard to do. Pro's from KSA can break and qz, which is amazing. Close range is all about quick zoom, and long range is breaking vs snipers, and drag shooting vs rifles.
There is a reason this game replaced CS in Korea and it's not because it's easy.
A multi kill in a 55 scrim is like so awesome in this game. If you pull a triple kill against a top team, you are doing something very special. I've only seen a handful of ultra kills (4 kill) in 555 and maybe 1-2 Great KIlls in about 2000 games.
Even in public games a great kill is about as good as you can get. I've gotten a few 6's, but then ive only had 2 8 kill specials and I've been playing this game for a year.
Combat Arms, Crossfire.... I get one of those whenever I play the game in pub. I don't even play often, but it's ridiculously easy to just spray and get those kill marks.
Hmmm im curious about the sniping in this game now, since ive played alot cs i want to see how hard the sniping is in this game...i'll post my thoughts later
Pub games are a joke right now due to a speed hack out...
If your looking for clean games you'll have to join password games. Usually in black hawk 1 there is alot of depot A free (a only games) ... They'll have the password in the title, but it will be in Korean.
They are almost always numbers 0-9
So
il = 1 ee = 2 sam = 3 sa = 4 oh = 5 ? gom= 0
Sorry don't know all of them usually the passes are il il ee, il sam oh, etc..
You'll play better players in these type of games usually.

Just to clarify: koreans often like to play amongst themselves (this is on the NA servers) due to BM brazilians/americans/they can speak korean to eachother. Also, in general, the koreans are on another level, and thus playing with eachother is much more fun+better for their skill improvement. It also basically ensures there are no hacks in the game since the koreans on SA are generally honest.
About the passwords, you'll often see games called "A FREE (il il sam) or something like that. A free means it's Depot, A site only; its a good way of practicing, and its much much better for games of 4v4 and 5v5. il il sam is the password; 113.
0=gom (didnt know this, assuming ice is right) 1=il 2=i/e(usually written as i) 3=sam 4=sa 5=oh 6=yuk 7=chil 8=pa/ba/bba/ppa (i think.. i may be wrong on this one - also, consonants are often interchangable when writing korean in romanization) 9=gu 10=ship/sip/ssip
so A FREE (il sam oh) means an A free match and the password is 135.
LONG STORY SHORT: play in the passworded korean games if you want a real challenge as well as a guaranteed clean game. learn the numbers so you can get into them.

I've been playing this game for a little over a month now with a couple thousand games done and almost every 8v8 I enter I ask at the start if anyone's from TL and have yet to find one single person on the NA or EU server who frequents our humble home. Did everyone lose interest in this fun game that quickly or are you all hiding from me in some obscure clan/channel that I'm unaware of? I don't like to bump threads and this is a first for me but does anyone play anymore on NA or EU on here?
I just made a new account to have enough points to start a TeamLiquid only clan so if anyone's out there that still plays please pm me your info because out of the list on page 1 I have yet to see anyone online yet. My in game name is FirstAscent btw. This game is fantastic and the main flaw I've seen so far is that there are many many hackers but in clan wars so far I've yet to see one go unbanned or reported.
