I had this problem multiple times before it finally worked. I'm pretty sure that in the end it was the automated client (not the manual download) that worked. It took 2-3 tries though.
Keep trying. It's weird.

I had this very annoying issue a few days ago when I started playing again I downloaded the client over 4 times and the repair tool was also no help! What I did to bypass this issue was download the client through steam which worked like a charm. You can also move all the eve files from the steamapps folder elsewhere if you want to skip using steam to launch eve.

I've never gotten into EVE so I can only understand glimpses here and there of what you guys are saying but TBH it's always pretty interesting. The trial was just a little too intimidating with absolutely no clue what I was doing and no IRL friends to get help from. But having said that I think the game would be fun if I could have gotten past that (admittedly huge) hurdle. I had a good time skimming through this discussion about the two huge factions that had wars of epic proportions, I'm sure you guys know the clans I'm talking about.
Anyways, I think I wouldn't be the only one that would really enjoy a battle summary or overview of the war you guys are currently in catered more towards people who play only very casually or not at all. Maybe raise your exposure and drum up some interest. Just a thought, I realize it would be some effort and time for someone to write it up. I think it would be fun, though, I would enjoy doing something similar for casual people of games that I'm a more experienced veteran in.

Im not quite sure on the details on it (and im not sure if there is a war in the TL clans atm - but i know theres some kind of war) but it would be intresting to see. Kawrk makes post dily about how the war is goin on this thread if u want to skim it (the last 10-20 pages or so)

Went for some 1v1s with the WT today (rifters), lost my first one to that absurdely buffer shield fit (im guessing what thornton encountered), was a close (ish) fight, apparently his guns were burned out and he had 25% buffer left (i just started OH my guns), Would have been a closer fight if I actually started with the good ammo/ managed to change it during the fight (was stucked for some reason), but yeah, I went with a weird rifter fit and it didnt work.
Won my second fight though, the guy tried a super fast rifter with 125s and tracking disruptor, but he got unlucky since I was fitting a web, a tracking disruptor and a rocket launcher, is no tank rifter went down pretty fast.
All in all fun times with much gfs and low on the bitching.

According to my calculations I'm up about 1.4b since coming back. The corp gets richer.

So I figured I should do another 1v1 frigate before going to bed today, the guy undocked in a griffin, and then I cried, after being jammed for 3mins and my tank slowly going down, he missed 1 single cycle and thats all it took me to kill him.
I was EXTREMELY lucky, since he actually went for an ab + scram + web + ecm fit, if he only had 2 ecm I was dead meat for sure.
I friggin hate griffins.
