What are your impressions of the New Eden Open now that you can reflect on it without having to think about upcoming matches? Is it something you see with the ability to grow? Do you feel it was worthwhile endeavor for the time, effort and money funneled in by Own3d, CCP and even the players? Quite frankly, we did better than I expected. We were placed into the bracket of death and we managed to beat Verge and advance to top 6 of the whole tournament. We have made a lot of progress from ATX and at the end of the day that is all one can hope for.
To be honest though, I don't find the tournaments all that exciting to watch unless I am watching a match of a potential opponent later in the bracket. It is such an artificial form of PvP I find it hard to get excited about it, and matches tend to be over very quickly, sometimes before the match even starts. Take our match today, we lost in EFT. Hydra brought specially fit damp Merlins to counter our EAF spam, which is something we heavily relied upon in previous matches.
I don't really know if it's worth having the tournaments because I don't really know what CCP hopes to accomplish with them. I doubt that I would ever participate in a tournament again, since it is a large commitment that I don't really like making for a video game.
EDIT: I hope this means that your POS isn't gonna get bashed Abom

Has anyone got any recommendations for corps? Was going to look at joining hatchery but if it's now inactive I guess I'm out of luck. :p
Recently started playing, done all the tutorial missions and probably just going to cruise along with some missions while I skill up towards a bigger ship. Going to be playing fairly casually, don't have a whole lot of time with work/studies, but wouldn't mind getting into some group pvp when I have time.

Yeah given that the entire right half of the bracket was crap and the entire left half was hard as hell TL did great

Indeed.
Thursday night we were rudely interrupted when about a 25 man sub cap fleet barged in through our hole and promptly logged off. At this point it was shared with me that we had been having nullsec holes mysteriously disappearing for a couple weeks. (gee I wonder how that happens) There was a level of optimistic panic setting in corp wide. We did managed to identify some of the vile cretins who wished harm upon our noble poses including the dishonorable Russian space hobos of W-space and their No holes barred Friends.
At first we had hoped they were just trying to fuck with us by trying to catch us site running with a fleet, but in the wee hours of friday during our constant vigil a battal pos was erected. We didn't have the numbers to react immediately, so we spent our time preparing assets and defenses and making important internet spaceship phone calls.

As new a member with limited roles/assets I spent my time aptly renaming my pos guns to recreate glorious star craft battle scenes. Shortly after the battle pos was erected they formed up into a pos bashing fleet and we were able to monitor the number of their caps. We were in luck, they had estimated our capital fleet based on our ability to fit bhaalgorns. We were however, out manned by sub caps. They quickly exerted dominance over the incoming hole and proceeded to siege each pos. For the next 16 hours the reinforced one tower after another while Hard Knocks pilots exercised their skillpoints spent in pos gunning, which totally aren't worth the time.
Luckily we have a stupid number of poses and they couldnt get through all of them before their russians succumbed to vodka induced sleep. I am sad to report that mity large pos Terran Command Center was not able to lift off in time and was promptly reinforced. Luckily "GG re?" was called and as our members called in sick from work and came home we formed up to make our fist moves. Apparently the invaders only had the fortitude to bubblewrap one of our poses, the other 32 just seemed like too much work.
The fleet landed on our bubbled pos and free the rest of our capitals that had been locked in. We then set our eyes on the most important part of wh fightings, controlling the connecting hole. A new static was formed and probes went out. At this point some crazy russian moros pilot sought to ninja close the new static. When he reappeared from the other side he didn't even have time to ponder the gravity of his mistake.
We established a new connection and then returned the favor by sieging their poses. For the next 6 or so hours we frantically searched for routes to meet up with glorious allies who would heed the call. As russian time zones came back on line it became a race for each side to rally in more troops. Groups like Aquila and Sleeper Social Club would spend the day cycling their holes in order to join up with us.
On saturday night we had assembled our fleet for the first group of pos timers to come up. The first tower was evaced an sacrificed for good luck to the gods of hole cycling. The fleet was marshalled and we stood strong on the hole to prevent another wave of reinforcements. At this point those with non noble intentions realized we had them matched in fleet size and decided that now was their last time to exert dominance over the incoming connection and attempt to call in more allies to swing the fight back into their favor.
Emotions were tense at this point, and we were finally treated to the reasoning for the violence to evict us. Some one had poorly google translated a yo momma joke into russian and posted into local when w-space wouldn't engage a roaming subcap fleet. -_- Amusingly they also failed to reinforce the tower of the offender. (Edit: Cat is out of the bag, it was a borat line to the effect of "your mother, whore in all of Kazakhstan." Borat is now on Hard Knocks KB banner)
The russians warped to their pounce and coms were split up, a final breath was taken just in time for them to ram into bubbles like they were legions.
Then suddenly
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ifE6w.gif)
Aquila FC orders his fleet to jump through, they had just made the connection to our static minutes before the russian fleet landed on grid.
TIL that CCP can't reinforce wh clusters.
primaries were called on the bhaals, lokies swooped in their webs slowing them to a crawl as the dread trained their guns on them. Nearly a dozen bhaals were blapped within a minute. Having won the neut war our dreads were free to fire indiscriminately on their cap fleet and without cap/capacitor superiority it became a giant turkey shoot. Lokies moved on to tengus and legions and the russians made their next move.
The caps would be sacrificed as their entire fleet burned to the exit hole and attempted to flee with their lives. Tengu jammers attempted to free brethren from wall of loki webs. While many did eventually make it to the exit the siege had been broken. NoHo and W-Space quickly moved to begin self destructing the rest of their pos fleet and a handful of assets paid a hefty sum to be allowed to participate in the slow boat of shame in front of the victors.

Nearly every major WH group had a presence in the battle.
A good view from our allies perspective of how close it was to get everyone joined in and the incredibly hard work they did to save our butts. linky

came here after seeing the whkills.info page. Was not disappoint. Good write up. I hope your terran base gets back up and operational.

We decided not to participate because a) you had no way in, which is why KITWF/VOC/etc. had to chain collapse in, b) we were the first group you batphoned and you accidentally invited an rnk member to a group chat with the hostiles(!), so I suppose without even being there we had an effect on the batphone cascade and c) you made our girl wait around 2 hours through incompetence.
Generally speaking we don't like 0.0 style NAP/blue fests in wormhole space, which is why historically we've always avoided that (which went fine against the original NATO; now the side that was NATO is being called WARSAW, utterly confusing). I can understand how it happens, though.

my apologies, that was the answer we were given in coms. I am not surprised if thats how it happened in reality. I've edited my post in respect for your glorious video making prowess and did not intend to pass false information.

I somehow volunteered to pvp. sigh

FA machariel sitting on the station in 5zxx. I warp tawa to a keres off the station, but the keres had warped off when tawa lands. He decides to just go to the station to see what the mach does. The mach starts to burn at him, gets off the undock, and then aggresses on tawa.
I then call the warp in from big monkey and I, and we manage to get the mach into half armor when an FA archon undocks. I call overheat because we might kill it before the archon locks. We get it to 25% armor and then moa undocks the fleet you see on the KM. Monkey dies, I warp out, mach dies.
Apparently there had been a cyno waiting, but he had gone afk when we attacked him. So basically we saved moa from a bait machariel.

I still maintain that I've quit eve. The ranis was literally the only ship I still own and despite my best attempts, survived with 7% hull

The gist of what I heard from my HDKX contacts was that RnK were invited to the party and ultimately refused, citing something about not wanting to come if they were heavily outnumbered.
For roughly 5-6 hours during US prime time on the 30th, HDKX had complete hole control. Plenty of time for anyone to send support over if they were so inclined to.
As for the names of the coalitions, they are completely satirical and mean absolutely nothing as all standings (at least on the "NATO" side) have been or are going to be reset.
This post is by far the most accurate report of the events from our point of view. I cannot emphasize strongly enough that the HDKX crew (with a minuscule contingent of Aquila members) were about to hilariously suicide themselves in a desperate attempt for hole control on that final day, when by sheer luck/fate SSC opened directly into the contested system with their battle-ready fleet.
Kudos to everyone who showed up for the brawl, it was definitely the most bizarre wormhole fight I've taken part in.
