Really cool concept with logistics - you don't just gather resources, you need to then store them and deliver them to build sites which adds a whole new layer of complexity to the layout of the base for optimal logistics routes etc. Also, vehicles possessing multiple weapon systems is just amazing. Multiple turrets with independent targeting and traversal, cannons, missile launchers, torpedoes etc. And on top of that you get destructible terrain.

Maybe if it were my project, I'd also want to keep adding and make it as big as it could be..? Still, feel like I would have gotten what I wanted out of the game, as a player, back in 2024 lol. Or at least around now. Personally did not -need- the lighting changes or physics system or any of that to have a good time. Will just have to wait a lot longer to see if the game is any fun.

Yeah, maybe they’ve just got more ambitious with the scope or something? Like I personally woulda been happy with a crazy OTT, tongue-in-cheeklove letter to the likes of Red Alert, I mean that’s kinda what I thought the game was when initially teased. Which hey I woulda been happy enough blasting some time around with. Incidentally I only became aware of it (as did some SC buddies) because we watched some reveal showcase specifically for Stormgate. At which time I wasn’t alone in thinking, god knows how it plays but it looks more fun for sure. I’m hoping it’ll turn out cool with this added ambition, that is quite a long time it’s been in the oven cooking if it’s not meant to drop for another few years. Could very well be time well-spent, equally part of me also wonders if they just dropped a big dumb fun RTS it woulda been pretty well-received

Maybe they all have a first job and the kickstarter lets them cut hours to work on DORF? They also have a stretch goal to add another developer btw.

According to the video I posted above they're 3 devs who have normal day job and were doing this game in their off time for over a decade now. Supposedly most of the systems are like 90% complete, what's missing is some campaign stuff, sound assets, finetuning etc. That's probably why they set the deadline for like 2 years down the line, I assume they want to keep working on it as they were (so covering living expenses from their day job and doing this game in their free time) and the cash will help them hire extra people, voice actors, cover potential marketing costs etc.

![]() I really suggest watching this video I posted above as it gives a lot of history on the project and can provide more context than my vague recollections (and it's not just glazing it, the author of the video points out both the positives and negatives in the project's lifecycle so far and highlights some potential problems in the future). It also goes into more details about the current state and plans for the game, the asymmetric nature (one of the 3 factions doesn't have any air units for example) etc.

They've already done a lot, not sure why they need kickstarter now maybe just for hype.

the best land RTS that includes naval combat that I've seen is Red Alert 3. If these guys know a lot of the C&C universe then hopefully they've had a good look at the Navy mechanics of RA3. The devs also mentioned somewhere they want to be done before christmas 2027 but have given themself enough leeway to delay till summer 28 which seems the sensible thing to do. I'd rather have them finish what they started than changing the scope of things again.
