Still trying to pull Venti, no luck so far. Think I'm at 60 pulls. Read 80 was max until guaranteed pull

your 90th pull is guaranteed to be Venti or 50% to be some other 5* unless you pulled mona from venti's banner previously.

Mona+Fischl+Xiangling should be a strong enough team for the entire game though.
you don't need 5* weapons, pretty much nobody has one, and ascended 3* and 4* are most likely better anyway.
Stringless is an amazing bow, and debatably the best in slot for Fischl, but it pretty much delegates her to the support role. Personally I prefer her with Rust though, especially if you want to use her as dps.
I'm not fully sure how Mona works as I don't have her, but she will get buffed/fixed in the next patch afaik.
Either way; water+electro+fire is really good.

Many people like Xiangling as a dps aswell. If you're stuck using the 3* weapon, then you should get the white tassel thingy which increases your base/normal atk dmg, or better yet Halberd, as xiangling will be the one you spam normal attacks with after applying the elements from other chars and throwing down Guoba.
The craftable 4* Crescent Pike is also really good and worth switching to once you get a few copies of it.

the #1 thing everyone recommends is only focus on 1-2 characters, not your entire team.
Barbara doesn't need much of an investment, her best weapon is actually a 3*(Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers) and you should definitely be using that, and switch to her right before you switch to Xiangling.
I don't believe you.

Is it just me or is it kind of hard to level up your characters? I've unlocked Amber, Barbara, Beidou, Kaeya, Lisa, Noelle, Sucrose, and Xiangling, but even before I unlocked more characters than can fit in a single party it seems like my party rank is still too low now for any of the story quests. It just tells me my party level is "less than recommended".

Sub 25AR definitely focus on just 1 or 2 characters, max. Build a good DPS and a support or something. I personally ran Diluc + Fishl while having Venti be an upcurrent animus/geoculus bitch and Barbara solely for her E healing.
It didn't matter that the whole party wasn't up to par for the story quests or dungeons, Diluc solo carried 90% of the content.

From AR25 to 30 it gets noticeably longer so here you'll be running around opening chests and using up your crescent moon energy thingy and you'll have enough purple books to bring the 2 other characters that were lagging behind, up to par and fully equip them with ascended refined weapons, blue leveled up trinkets and their own ascendancies as well.

I just noticed I have the 2 husbandos everyone wants, but I should've kept rolling for waifus like Keqing and Mona, lol.

Thanks dude that helped quite a lot.
Crafted a Crescent pike and brought it up to lvl 45 and stuff is sooooo much easier now with Xiangling

Normal rotation is Mona E -> Fishl E -> Xiangling E + DPS -> Mona E and when I need healing I throw in Barbs E / Ult instead of Mona

All the dungeons and stuff have a recommendation which is basically the average character level of your first party I think. But if you have Diluc level 50 and the rest of the party level 20 you can easily do dungeons which recommend party level 40 for example, even if you average is just 27,5

Hmmmm well what is the best way to level up characters anyway? And is it a good idea / bad idea to try to keep everyone's level balanced? Right now I have no characters in my party that are high enough for any quest and I don't know if that's because I'm trying to split levels for all 9 of my characters.

Definitely don't level ALL your characters!
As someone stated above, put most of your XP books into your main DD and one support (and maybe some into the other two of your main party), that should get you into AR26+
After that progression will considerably slow down anyway

There is only 1 way really to level up characters, and that is by doing it manually, using books. After you hit max level, you can Ascend them higher. You really shouldn't have a problem getting 4 of them to 50. If you try to get everyone to 50 immediately, you'll definitely run out of purple/blue XP books.
After 50, the ascensions will require QUITE a fair bit more resources that you'll have to farm little by little everyday, so naturally you'll slow down and focus on other characters by that point.

Also really don't focus on 9(!) characters. Pick a team (4 toons) with a good, varied elemental chain and focus on those 4. This game is all about doing elemental chains for maximum damage output.

Few bits of advice.
  • Your typical team will generally consist of a DPS (your primary button-spam), a healer/support, and two nuke/supports. The reason being that in most cases you'll focus your artifacts and weapons on the DPS to actually do weapon-slapping damage while the others will be built toward refreshing ults/doing more damage with nukes. You can have a secondary DPS (particularly if ranged to deal with those awful super high-level slimes and such) but you'll want to try to plan this out beforehand as resources become quite limited. With that said, you won't encounter that level of difficulty in the world and during story, but primarily in...
  • The current end-game content (Spiral Abyss) requires the use of two teams, both of which will ultimately require a healer (or two or three). This can be tricky for most players as your only f2p options are Barbara (until 1.1) and Noelle, and even Noelle really prefers Constellations until she gets fully up-and-running (also Geo currently sucks). You should decide relatively early on whether you want to play/build toward this or not, as two teams of four requires a lot of early resource decision-making.
  • Character leveling is a bit of a quagmire of resources. You have levels, which provide "ok" stats, but most of the benefits come from ascension. Asc1 (level 20) unlocks the first unique talent, Asc2 (level 40) and onward give each character a secondary stat boost (ie. everyone's favorite lightning archer gets base attack bonuses) which allow you to set up builds around, and Asc4 (level 60) unlocks the second unique talent. You also unlock being able to level talent/skills, and IIRC starting at Asc3 you start being able to level the skill twice (often resulting in a 10% increase even in the auto-attack damage), but obviously this takes a metric butt-ton of resources (skillbooks + secondary resource + money). Depending on the first point above as well as the power level of the second unique talent, you might want to plan ahead for how much you invest in each character.
  • As mentioned, the character levels themselves don't give you much stats. Most of your character's power comes from the weapon and more importantly the artifacts. For comparison purposes, a level 60 character probably comes with about 450 atk and 450 def (give or take, on average, for a melee character). A level 60 weapon generally comes with close to 400 atk and some sort of secondary % (ie. +40% atk... you get the drift). A 4* artifact might start at +5% atk, but at +16 it scales up to about +40% atk, and you have 5 of these (though one is locked to HP and one is locked to flat ATK). That's freaking enormous, on top of the +18% atk from a set bonus. Upgrading weapons and artifacts take a lot of money. Realistically you'll end up with one or two characters with heavily upgraded artifacts (ideally your two DPS characters) with the rest hovering around depending on set bonuses and +4~+8 upgrades. Again, try to plan accordingly. Bright side is, artifacts do carry over around 80% exp if you feed one into another.
  • Learn elemental resonance and reactions so you can build accordingly. Late-game (Spiral Abyss) combat heavily revolves around using elemental weaknesses to remove shields and causing status debuffs/DoTs using reactions (and often a wind/anemo character to spread the status). You'll be surprised at the amount of build variety you can do... though unfortunately we currently lack the resources to level enough characters to be able to really do nifty things. I've seen a carry Barbara hitting 10k crits while abusing the Vaporize reaction. Some folks take double lightning for the resonance to fuel ults, but that means you don't have the slot for a wind character (like a Venti) because you need the other two slots for actual elements (ie. Beidou/Fish/Xiangli/Barbara) to set up reactions.

I've played the game for a bit. While it looks nice I got bored relatively quickly. I mean, if you want it to be an open world RPG/adventure with some story then make it such and if you want it to be a gacha game you should do that. They kinda did both and I don't really like gacha in my adventure (p2w adventures are not fun) or adventure in my gacha (gacha games are time intesive on their own, now you want me to spend extra time on running around, watching cutscenes and stuff?) so for me this mix doesn't really work.

It does look pretty though.

The XP you get from normal questing is veeery low. You need books for Character XP

You can ignore the gacha mechanic and be completely fine playing an open world RPG'ish game though. Some of the quests are really fun and have a wide array of things to do other than fetch/ kill quests.

Most memorable so far was the cooking contest IMO

Or you can run around chasing seelies and doing random chest events which I did at some point for about 3 hours straight ^-^
I also like that you have a plethora of teleport options (teleports, dungeons, statues) to shorten distances if you want to go single minded going after a special quest.

I have a hard time understanding how you got bored quickly TBH. I feel super overwhelmed by all the options and things to do. The only boring part is that you pretty much NEED to do your 4 dailys, but thats done in like 15min

Now that I hit AR31 I have grown to be incredibly frustrated by the Resin system in place. There is simply nothing else for me to do, but run tasks that require resin.
The 4 daily commissions take maybe 8 minutes total to do, and you run out of resin after doing 3-4 things...
If you want to play more, you gotta pay up to top off your resins, and the worst part is you don't even get 120 per refill, but a measly 60...
Even if I WANT to play more, I simply cannot because every meaningful activity is gated behind resin.

What is there left to do? Go mining and picking flowers, I guess? Fighting the 4 Ley Lines per day, but not actually opening the rewards just killing the mobs guarding it for BP checkpoints?

Fucking hell, Resin limit should go up with World Level and refills should give you full resin, not a measly 60...

I'm also pissed as hell that all my good artifact sets that finally started dropping post AR30 (Brave Heart, Wanderer's Troupe, Maiden Beloved, Bloodstained Chivalry, Gladiator's Finale) have rolled DEF% as mainstat... how unlucky can you get?!

This game was on my radar since I saw the trailer a few months ago, but reading you guys talking about rerolling characters, buying passes, this "resin" business that limits your actions and other gacha mechanics is a real turn off.

To be honest Resin aside the daily miniboss drops also become a limiting factor for character advancement, and those runs can take a good couple hours per days if you really go at it daily. I'm assuming you've already gotten both Monstadt and Liyue achieves.

The real blocker of Resin is AR given that 40 is a big breakpoint (for artifact farming), but unless you're seriously in a hurry it's not THAT big of a deal. I've seen ~AR35s (below and above) get to Spiral 11 via proper builds/resource investment and player skill.

"You can ignore the gacha mechanics" is true of every gacha game when it launches. They build the base game to be F2P friendly to get their initial player base. The "gacha requirement" always kicks in when they add endgame content post-release, and limited-time events are the bread and butter of basically every game in the genre.

Gonna wait and see on this one. The gacha rates are terrible, and the game is still in its honeymoon period where its impossible to evaluate how gacha-heavy the endgame content will be because that content literally doesn't exist yet.

rerolling isn't that bad, and you don't need to do it, it's just a way to get the characters you want to try out. Pretty much any character in the game is fun in their own right and capable of sustaining you through the entire game.
Buying the pass isn't worth it, and you don't need it at all.
The resin thing is an issue, but it only starts being an issue after 50+ hours of gameplay. It is also on the developer's radar now, and they're compiling player feedback on the matter, so there's a good chance it will get changed soon.
What I'm trying to say is, even without the criticisms that have been laid out, this is the least p2w free game I've seen in a very very long time and there's pleeeeenty of time to be spent here without any drawbacks at all.
I don't believe you.
