The latest game in the Fable setting. It just went F2P in February 2018. It is a digital CCG that might appeal to many. I must say that I've found it by accident but I believe it deserves more recognition. It has some really cool mechanics and ideas, amazing artwork and is actually really fun. I think it is geared more towards casual play but veteran CCG players can also find great value there (myself included).
For quite some time now I've been looking to diversify my CCG interests a bit so I don't stay focused only on TESL, but Hearthstone looks like garbage and is festering with RNG and Gwent is just boring (I love control vs control 1 hour long slugfests in card games but Gwent feels more like solitaire to me). Enter Fable Fortune, a really nice game that I can chill with for a bit.
Unique Mechanics
I won't be talking about general card mechanics and resource management since those are similar in most CCGs, I'll just focus on what makes this game unique.
Quests and Morality - during the course of the game you can select from 3 different quests (after you complete one you get to choose from another 3 sets of quests). Every time you complete a quest you can choose your morality (good or evil). This influences your hero ability and transforms some of your cards into different versions. Example:
Good/Neutral/Evil

You can select your alignment 3 times during the course of the game, last choice overrides previous one (only affects cards when they are being played). Some morality cards require several levels of alignment.
Alignment also affects your hero power, altering it in subtle but crucial ways.
Guarding - unlike in other games, you don't naturally have creatures with guard. It is an activated ability that costs 1 gold/mana and puts one of your creatures in guard mode, preventing opponent from going face. Nice tactical thing.
Game Modes
There's single player PvP league, Coop play (really cool idea, 2 players against one "boss" deck) and practice vs AI.
Starting Out
Game is available on Steam and Xbox. It is completely F2P, after completing the tutorial you will receive 10 booster packs and some starter decks. If you like the game I suggest buying the starter bundle, it's cheap (10USD) and has great value. Not necessary at all though.
So, first things first. There are 6 different classes in the game, each with unique mechanics and cards:
- Prophet - you may consider it the white color in MtG, excels at healing creatures and players.
- Shapeshifter - werewolves, rabid squirrels and such. Excels at dealing direct damage (both to creatures and face), can be played as aggro or control.
- Gravedigger - zombies, zombies everywhere. Really cool deck that plays off of creating and killing creatures. The twist here is that you want your creatures to die but also control exactly when they die.
- Knight - totally not what class name suggests
It's a bunch of farmers, pigs and farmers on pigs. Quite a nice twist on bruise/token deck.
- Merchant - plays a bit like ramp/control deck with some dirty tricks up his sleeve.
- Alchemist - as name suggests it is the buff/debuff faction. By far the most RNG of all here (which still isn't much).
When you play your first games you'll level up each class. You'll receive playsets of free class cards at level 2 and 5 (takes about 3-5 games with a class to get there, losses also give you xp, might also be at levels 3 and 5, I don't remember). Took me one day to do it with all classes without trying too hard.
To familiarize yourself with the game I'd suggest taking the Prophet since it's the most straightforward deck to play (I've listed classes above in order of increasing difficulty).
In the beginning you can use starter decks provided by the game or make a custom one. Here's a great basis for any deck (only most common neutral cards that can be used in any deck):
Trophy pick (you must have 1 trophy card, you start with it in your hand when going second):
Any will do but I think that Boot, Pointed Stick and Chicken Vengeant help the most with board control.
Core:
2x Bowerstone Bard - cheap body that buffs your other creature and helps with trading
2x Lousy Crossbowman - invaluable ping (might need to craft that, to get enough ink for crafting you can simply defeat AI on hard twice which should be ezpz with this deck)
2x Fierce Looter - nothing fancy, just great stats for the cost
2x Stinger - as above
2x Hired Assassin - good stats and ping
2x Warrior Hobbe - good stats (alternate would be Stag Beetle, but generally health > power)
2x Bowerstone Sheriff - good stats and effect on guard
2x Wardog - great statline
2x Hardened Colonel - great starting morality card (might need to craft it, just like Lousy Crossbowman)
This gives you 18 cards, which leaves 12 to be filled in with your class cards or other neutral cards that you fancy.
Good neutral picks:
2x Tattooist - buffs 2 other units when entering play
2x Mage Hunter - silencing annoying creatures or dealing with a guard for final push is always nice
Good picks for Prophet:
2x Repair Drones - perpetual healing and card draw on your creature
2x Smite the Cynic - helps with removal
2x Minion - solid creature
2x Eradicate - removal (acquired for free at level 5 class)
2x Protect the Prophet - nice single-target heal and buff on multiple units in one package
2x Sand Fury - solid creature
2x Leeching Swarm - board clear and healing
Have fun!
